Bound To The Ice Dragon King -
Chapter 92: Protection instinct
Chapter 92: Protection instinct
Rhea clenched her teeth upon hearing Lord Edmund’s hurried footsteps, her mind recalling Draven’s lessons on creating ice barriers. Without hesitation, she lifted her hands and started forming a barrier to block the entrance of the Hall. However, before she could finish, Edmund appeared at the entrance and launched a massive fireball at the incomplete barrier.
The fireball burst, causing Rhea’s feeble and rushed barrier to crumble. Edmund stood at the entrance, his eyes fixed on her. "Ah, I see now. Dragons from the east clan!" he exclaimed. He glared at her, his voice filled with contempt. "I was wondering why you were so sneaky last time, it turns out you are also a Dragon! You dare to intrude upon Birhhan and trespass into my domain, you..."
His words were interrupted as his gaze shifted beyond Rhea, taking in the scene behind her. Edmund’s expression transformed into one of astonishment, his eyes widening in disbelief. It dawned on him what this meant: the man behind this girl was the supposedly deceased Dragon king, said to have been slain by Alina!
Rhea internally cursed as she noticed his expression. Edmund seemed to know who Draven was, now they had another reason to get rid of the man before he spread the news out to everyone that the Dragon king was still alive!
Rhea clenched her fists then yelled, "You heartlessly killed my kind, today I will finish you up. Why don’t you face me to fight!" She challenged confidently, however she didn’t feel confident at all. She couldn’t deny the fact that this man was more powerful than she was. Her legs were already shaking, but she still put up a brave front for Draven’s sake.
Rhea didn’t give Lord Edmund the chance to respond before she began to attack him with her ice. However, the man was well skilled, he swiftly dodged everyone of her attacks. As they continued to fight, Rhea began to fall at a disadvantage, as she’d used almost all her strength to fight that beast earlier.
Nevertheless, she didn’t give up and fought back his flames just like she’d been taught. As Edmund saw that Rhea was skilled at fighting his flames, he grew frustrated, he turned his head towards Draven who was still floating in the air. "You rebellious Dragon, I will not allow you to live!" He yelled out towards Draven.
Edmund’s hand countered Rhea, while his other hand began to make a huge flame, and in the blink of an eye, he threw it towards Draven, who’s mind was completely out of this world, his eyes were tight closed.
Rhea’s eyes widened as she saw the flame flew towards his direction, if Draven didn’t move, that huge flame would definitely smash his head. Rhea’s heart raced in panic, and without hesitation, she hurriedly raised her hands and made a huge ice ball that was as big as the flame, she swiftly threw it towards the advancing flame. The ice ball forcefully smashed away the flame and diverted it from Draven’s direction. The force of her ice, caused the flames to sink into the floor.
Rhea moved to stand in front of Draven, her disguise completely coming off, revealing her silver hair. She didn’t seem to care, all her focus was on protecting Draven from Edmund.
However, Edmund who was about to throw another attack suddenly stopped as his eyes fell on her silver hair. As if recalling something, he frown, "It’s you, the girl who dared release the dragons last year. Rheanna Villden." Edmund’s eyes widened at this realization, "After all this time, turns out you’re the Emperor’s niece who’s gone missing with the general. The daughter of the Duke, the disgrace of the Villden’s!"
Edmund’s eyes darkened dangerously, "What did you do to the general of Birhhan? You must have collided with the enemies and killed him!"
Rhea’s expression darkened at his accussation, but she didn’t bother to defend herself nor explain. She smirked devilishly and said, "People who know too much tend to die an early death. Just like you, My Lord."
Lord Edmund let out a burst of laughter, "How arrogant. I wonder what your family would think when I tell them about what you did, and the Emperor...you will be executed immediately. You_"
Rhea didn’t let him finish his sentence. She swiftly summoned her ice sword and spikes, launching a relentless assault. No more games, she had to eliminate him. The consequences of having his blood on her hands were of no concern to her; all that mattered was safeguarding Draven. She refused to let this man or anyone cause Draven’s downfall again; he had already endured enough suffering. The sudden surge of protective instincts puzzled Rhea, yet she was determined to follow through, even if it meant taking this man’s life.
Rhea’s eyes grew darker as she formed ice magic around her palms. She charged at Edmund with an all-out attack, catching him off guard. For a moment, It seemed he couldn’t withstand the relentless assault. He began to retreat, but the more he retreated, the more Rhea advanced. Through gritted teeth, he said, "You treacherous brat! You’ve abandoned your human nature and sided with the enemy. Today, I will end your life and purge Birhhan of a rebellious girl like you!" Spouting these words, he ceased defending against Rhea’s icy attacks and instead advanced towards her, even at the risk of being hit in the head. Edmund launched a fireball, striking her chest.
Rhea let out a low grunt as the fire made contact with her chest. However, she managed to retaliate with a powerful ice strike to Edmund’s chest as well. He stumbled back three steps, eventually falling to his knees as the coldness spread through his chest.
Rhea also collapsed to her knees, clutching her burned chest as a burning sensation coursed through her veins, causing tears to well in her eyes from the intense pain. However, she couldn’t allow this opportunity of eliminating Edmund pass. With determination, she rose to her feet, ignoring the agony. Yet, the pain returned, gripping her chest once again. Just as she prepared to charge forward forcefully, a burst of light suddenly illuminated the hall from behind her.
The chilling light suddenly enveloped her, alleviating the burning sensation in her veins, it was so soothing to the point she couldn’t move to attack Edmund again.
Meanwhile, Edmund remained in anguish as the ice had struck him directly in the chest earlier. However, upon witnessing the white light emanating from behind Rhea, a sense of foreboding washed over him. He no longer had the energy to stand or retaliate. Although he couldn’t comprehend what exactly the Dragon king was doing, but he could tell he was using his chilling light to protect the girl. He could already perceive the faint presence of the Dragon’s murderous aura in the air.
With his current condition, he dare not try to fight these two. He glanced at Rhea and noticed her eyes were closed as she tightly clutched her chest with the lights swirling around her. Edmund took advantage of Rhea’s distracted attention and quietly turned on his heels and fled the hall.
Edmund still had a strong backing, he would report this to the Emperor then send a letter to Alina about the Dragon king still being alive. And that girl...he would ensure her execution this time!
With difficulty, Edmund finally succeeded in fleeing the hall. As he turned the corner, he had the intentions of summoning his guards. However, to his dismay, the grounds were completely empty, devoid of any person.
"Bunch of incompetent fools!" he exclaimed angrily.
"Father, are you looking for someone?" Came Valen’s voice from the other side.
Edmund was startled by the sudden voice, but quickly turned when he recognized it. He saw his stepson approaching with a group of men in black following behind him. In an instant, the men stepped forward. However, Edmund, desperate for support, believed that Valen had brought these men to help him kill the Dragon king and gain his favor.
In his usual arrogant tone, Edmund spoke, "It’s good that you came on time. Those two are inside the hall stealing Alina’s treasure. The girl is rebellious, while the man is an ancient Dragon. Take these men with you and capture them immediately before they spread evil to Birhhan!" He commanded.
Valen only smirked and spoke nonchalantly, "I never thought my father was so righteous as to protect Birhhan. Since he wants me to capture those two, I will. But then..." Valen paused and placed his hand inside his coat, his hazel eyes turning murderous, "you will be in hell before I follow your orders."
Before Edmund could react, Valen used a short sword to stab him deep in the heart. Edmund’s eyes widened as the sword tore through his chest, twisting his heart. He looked at Valen in disbelief and said, "You... ungrateful brat... you_"
Valen didn’t allow him to finish his words before using the sword to open his chest. Edmund’s body immediately fell lifeless to the ground.
Valen’s expression became serious as he looked at the dead body on the ground. "This is for killing my parents. I hope you find your home in hell where you belong, with the devil." With these words, he smirked and casually discarded the sword, having achieved his goals.
