Bound To The Ice Dragon King -
Chapter 39: Because I need you
Chapter 39: Because I need you
The room was dimly lit, the table was filled with several empty bottles scattered across it. Rhea watched as Draven gulped down one bottle after another as if he was trying to drown himself.
She also resumed to down her bottle of wine, the wine burned down to her stomach along with the unhappiness in her heart. Rhea drank until she began to feel dizzy.
The pair sat on opposite sides of the table, both visibly intoxicated.
Rhea, her cheeks flushed, looked at Draven with a mischievous glint in her eyes. Perhaps it must be because of the alcohol in her system, but Draven looked even more handsome today. She smiled foolishly. This handsome dragon was her husband. She thought.
However, despite the alcohol taking it’s effects, Rhea suddenly saw a flash of the scene where Draven was stabbed on the snow ground by Alina. Her heart clutched tightly with an unbearable pain.
Rhea clenched her fist and hit it against her chest before pointing at Draven, "You are my husband, your sorrows and pains are mine as well..."
Draven, however looked at the empty bottle in his hand, he then wiped his mouth with his sleeve. The moonlight illuminating from the window reveled an abnormal red flush on his usually pale face.
With an unusual goofy smile, Draven glanced at Rhea, he seemed to noticed the bottles on the tables were empty, he swiftly moved them away and placed filled bottles of wine on the table. He pushed one towards Rhea,
"Yes, you are my wife. So let’s drink our sorrow away tonight!"
Rhea nodded determinedly and gulped down another bottle, before laughing senselessly, "You know, I never thought a poker face like you could be this friendly." She lifted her bottle, "Let’s drink our sorrow away!"
When all the bottles were empty, Rhea sprawled on the floor and laughed senselessly. However, she got up unsteadily and started dancing all over the room.
Draven chuckled at her dance moves, his speech slightly slurred as he said, "You move like the chickens in old lady Lila’s farmhouse."
Rhea stopped dancing and frowned at his words. "Who are you calling a chicken? I will teach you a lesson." She rolled up her sleeves and was about to raise her hand to hit him when she tripped over her front dress and unintentionally ended up falling on him. She froze for a moment, her eyes widening in surprise. Draven, equally surprised, instinctively wrapped his arms around her waist before she fell to the other side of his chair, however she ended up sitting on his lap with her legs straddling his thighs.
They both froze, their eyes locked in astonishment.
Rhea’s face blushed in embarrassment, "I... I didn’t mean to..."
The pair shared an awkward silence, their gazes locked. The air between them crackled with an unexpected tension. Rhea tried to stand up, but the alcohol made her wobbly, causing her to fall back onto his lap. They both laughed uneasily.
Slightly slurring, Rhea said, "I guess... I’m comfortable here."
Draven’s confusion began to fade, replaced by a goofy smile. He tightened his grip around her waist, offering her support.
"Well, I guess I can’t let you fall, can I?"
Rhea’s cheeks burned with a mixture of alcohol-induced bravery and genuine vulnerability. She wrapped her arms around his neck, "Hmm. You are quite pitiful, that I can’t help but feel sorry for you. If you would tell anyone you were the king of the ice dragons, no one would believe you."
Draven, who had also been hit by the alcohol leaned his head on her shoulder for support, "No one would believe me, because I can’t prove it...I have no dragon powers."
Although, his words were not amusing, but a drunken Rhea found it amusing and began to laugh as she hit him on the back. But she suddenly stopped, furrowed her brows, and pulled his head away from her shoulder.
"You pervert! It was your perverted behavior that led you into falling in the hands of that witch, Alina. Move away from me."
Draven grabbed her waist when she tried to stand up from his lap, he shot her a glare, "What did you call me?"
Rhea slapped his hand away from her waist, "I said you’re a pervert!"
"If I’m a pervert for loving someone, you are also a perverted woman, or else why would you fall in love with that stupid Azure because he saved your life? Shameless girl."
Rhea frowned, she then pouted, "Because he’s the hero who saved me and you are the villain who hurt me."
"I didn’t hurt you, you are annoying me by calling me evil so I didn’t explain it to you and stabbed you. I knew you won’t die..." He murmured.
Rhea wrapped her arms back around his neck,"I don’t care, you hurt me. That’s final." She pursed her lips, "Now tell me. How in the world did you let that witch Alina hurt you and turn you into a mere mortal now?"
When Draven heard her question, he pretended to hear a joke and threw his head back laughing, his beautiful face was mesmerizing and revealed his white teeth, he laughed for a while and suddenly stopped .
His tone was rigid, "Alina, my sworn enemy...I loved her with all my heart, but in the end...she betrayed me for another man. She ruthlessly stabbed me with my weakness, she mercilessly separated me from my dragon form. Took away my essence and ice powers, reducing me to a mere mortal." He paused and grabbed the last bottle of wine on the table and gulped it down, the corner of his mouth still held a bitter smile,
"She did all this to save her lover’s soul, she ruined my reputation in the mortal world, destroyed my realm."
Rhea’s slightly muddled head could not fully comprehend what she’d just heard, she adjusted herself on his lap and glanced at him, "She did all this to you? Then why aren’t you getting back at her? You shouldn’t let her get away with it and take back the things she took from you. Why aren’t you taking any action?"
Draven stared at Rhea, his face was slightly flushed from drinking too much. The distance between them was no more than an inch, however, he moved his head closer until his lips were near her ear. His raspy voice was filled with seduction, "Because I need you."
