Bound To The Ice Dragon King
Chapter 36: Enchanting light

Chapter 36: Enchanting light

Rhea’s gaze fixated on Draven, her heart skipping a beat. She noticed a mesmerizing white light, faint but distinct, emanating from him. It danced and swirled around him, like ethereal ribbons of energy.

Her eyes widened in astonishment as she watched the light gracefully swirled and danced around him, casting a radiant white glow. It was the same white light from the pool.

Rhea subconsciously whispered as she stared at his body in awe, "It’s beautiful..."

Draven, puzzled, followed Rhea’s gaze which settled on his torso, but his expression remained unchanged.

"What are you staring at?" He asked indifferently.

Not looking away from his body, she murmured subconsciously again, "There’s... there’s this incredible white light, like... it’s flowing around you, Draven. It’s... it’s breathtaking..."

Draven’s eyebrows furrowed together.

Rhea’s face fell, realizing that Draven didn’t see the enchanting light surrounding him. She blinked, as if trying to clear her vision, but the light persisted. Her eyes fixed on the dazzling light that continued to envelop him. She couldn’t help but feel a sense of intrigue and a magnetic pull towards him.

The most surprising thing was that she was the only one who could see the light. She reached her hand to touch his chest, but as if being struck by lightning, she pulled away as the light suddenly disappeared.

Rhea took two steps away from him and cleared her throat, she clenched her fists, trying to hide her growing fascination with his physique." Since you’re much better now, hurry and cure Rinus. Don’t delay it any further." With a brief pause, she added,

"As none of us can stand each other any longer. We need to part ways as soon as possible." She remarked emotionlessly and was about to brush past him, when his deep voice flowed to her ears,

"You’re wrong on that. I can’t part ways with you yet."

Rhea stopped, a frown settling between her brows. She turned to look at him. What was he trying to say? He couldn’t part ways with her yet? Ha, a joke! Was he planning to use her for his other schemes again?

Rhea was about to ask him what he meant when the serpent walked over to Draven’s side to check on his wound, "It hasn’t healed yet, you need more rest, before the time you’d cure Rinus."

Of course, Sila wasn’t really worried about Draven’s condition, she was just afraid that with his current condition he wouldn’t be able to cure her Rinus, and it might cause some problems if he wasn’t fully healthy before absorbing the flame from Rinus body.

Rhea left the two in the corridors and strode outside to the courtyard, where there was a white bed swing. She lay on it and fixed her gaze on the nightsky. She idly recalled her life in the capital.

Her foster mother, Irene. She wondered how the woman was coping without her in the mansion. But then she knew as long as Irene’s nephew, Cal was back to the capital, the woman would be fine, no one would dare to bully her in his presence. And anyway, it would only be a matter of time before she’d also return to the mansion. Though her life in the Villden mansion wasn’t any better, she preferred it than to live with Draven. She had missed her life in the capital, where she’d disguise as a male and scam those wealthy rich women in various brothels to earn some money.

Even though Rhea had seen and experienced Draven’s past, and also realized the book of legends was all a lie, she still couldn’t change anything because the people of Birhhan had already been blinded and had taken the outcast creatures as their sworn enemies, and the outcasts had also killed a lot of humans in war.

The two entities can never come together again. It would be best for the dragon to simply go back to where he rightfully belonged while she’d also go back to her miserable life in the capital.

Rhea smiled bitterly, "Perhaps my life is meant to be forever miserable..." she murmured softly, while she continued to lay on the swing in the courtyard.

The courtyard was bathed in the soft glow of the moonlight. A gentle breeze rustles through the trees, carrying with it the sweet scent of flowers. Her eyes fixed on the starry sky. Her face was filled with a mix of longing and melancholy.

As the silence surrounded her, she began to hear a faint trickle of water. Looking towards the sound, she saw the serpent washing Rinus’ feet In the small pond nestled amidst the lush greenery in the courtyard. Moonlight danced on the rippling surface, creating an enchanting spectacle.

Sila was singing while taking care of Rinus. Her voice as gentle as the night breeze. Her song carried on, weaving its way through the night air.

"In the depths of my heart, I once longed for his love,

But now it’s a fading, distant tune.

Oh, how I long for the touch of his hand again,

But he’s slipped away, like grains of sand.

Love lost, yet love remembered. How bittersweet."

Rhea was captivated by the melody, her heart resonating with the emotions pouring from the serpent’s voice. However, there was no reactions from Rinus, who sat there like a statue while she wiped his arms with a wet clothe.

Rhea was baffled, "Sila, why are you cleaning him outside instead of the bathing room?"

Sila wasn’t even surprised by the sudden voice, she simply continued to attend to Rinus while she replied, "He doesn’t like it inside. He prefers to sit here to watch the moonlight."

"I didn’t know a creature like you could also love someone this dearly..." Rhea pursed her lips. Since she couldn’t fall asleep and her mind kept wondering back to her miserable life she might as well chat with this woman.

Rhea made her way towards the pond and sat at the edge with her legs soaked into the water. Her reflection shimmering alongside the moon’s reflection.

"Sila, tell me how you first met my cousin."

Sila smiled, "Well, it wasn’t anything special. When i was still in

Draconia. A few years ago, my friends and I secretly crossed the borders and entered Birhhan, we were merely curious to see what the human world was like. However, we weren’t being careful enough to mask our aura at that time, and the fire controllers’ pets, the shadow stalkers caught a whiff of our smell and alerted the fire controllers."

The shadow stalkers were nocturnal creatures that dwell in the darkness. They possessed heightened senses of sight, hearing, and smell, making them expert trackers and hunters. Their sleek and agile body allowed them to move swiftly and silently, making the creature difficult to detect.

However, the creatures have a unique ability to form a deep and unbreakable bond with a single human. Once bonded, the Shadow Stalker becomes fiercely loyal to their human companion and will obey their commands without question. Hence, almost all the fire controllers possessed one in Birhhan.

Sila resumed, "The fire controllers and the shadow stalkers pursued us into the woods. I got separated from my friends and ended up being caught in a trap, despite the wound on my leg, I continued to run in the woods until I bumped into Rinus..."

Sila paused, her gaze seemingly distance as if recalling the day, her expression softened. "I could still remember his remarks as he looked down upon me on the ground,

’Arent you a brave one to dare cross the borders?’ I thought he was going to hand me over to his fellow fire controllers, I lost all hope and thought I’d die soon but..."

’Dont worry, young lady. I will protect you from them.’

"When he said those words, I was confused at first. But to my utter surprise...he walked to his fellow fire controllers and lured them to the opposite direction."

Rhea who was listening looked astonished. Who would have thought the infamous arrogant Rinus could also be this kind hearted to even go as far as to save an outcast? Birhhan had the rules of not sparing an outcast, they should be burned on sight as they were all taken as evil after what happened with the ice dragon king.

Rhea hadn’t known this side of her cousin before, but now that she thought about it, Rinus always seemed to have a non-interested attitude when it comes to anything that had to do with burning the outcasts. He’d always give the excuses of_’my hands are too pretty to be stained with a lowly life creature’s blood.’

Was it because of Sila? Rhea thought.

Sila continued, "Back then, I knew nothing about the fire controllers, I had lived within Draconia all my life. I had no knowledge of the danger in Birhhan, it was my curiosity that led me to follow my friends. At the time when he saved me, I had no idea who he was, I only knew he got me out of danger. He even said_’you look too pretty for an outcast that’s why I’m saving you today, but I’d advise you not to ever take the risk of crossing the borders again.’ he was the first person to ever compliment me." Sila chuckled,

"He even tore his shirt and wrapped the fabric around my injured ankle. He escorted me back to Draconian’s borders to see to it that I was safe."

Rhea couldn’t help but smile as she gazed at her cousin who still stared blankly at nothing. She then said to Sila, "You were lucky, if you were discovered by the others, they’d have burned you alive."

Sila beamed, "Rinus is different from them." She took his hot hand in hers, and her expression softened, "That time was in winter...he even used his flames to keep me warm all the way to the borders."

"Was that the reason you fell in love with him and even risked your life to stay in Birhhan to see that he’d be cured?"

Sila gave a curt nod, "Yes, It might seem crazy, but I’m willing to do anything for him. I will soar across the forbidden places to see that he’d be cured..." Sila murmured.

Rhea quietly gazed at the pair. Actually, she didn’t know the feeling of loving someone this deeply and willing to give ones life for love. But she could understand the feeling of being grateful towards someone who once saved your life. Just like Azure had once saved her...

"Sila, don’t you think living this way wouldn’t be bad?"

Even though Rinus wasn’t part of the leaders yet, he was still a fire controller. Even if he harbored feelings towards the serpent, it would be impossible for them to be together once he recovered.

Sila spoke while combing his long jet black hair, "Rinus is an important figure in the capital, he wouldn’t want a life like this. And all I want is to see him happy, even if it means not being together with him in the end..."

Hearing her words, Rhea didn’t speak any further. She simply watched as Sila took care of him before helping him out of the pond and walked him back to his room to coax him to sleep.

Rhea remained sitting alone in the courtyard at the edge of the pond. She sighed deeply, wondering why humans believed these creatures didn’t have emotions. To her, they were no different from humans.

If only Alina hadn’t messed things up years ago, things wouldn’t have gotten to this point...

As Rhea sat alone and lost in thoughts, she was completely unaware of the ghostly figure who stood behind a tree gazing at her from a distance.
