Birth Of The Crafts-God -
Chapter 346 - 346: Dinner 2
After stepping into the solarium, the silver-haired man glanced at Lucas and walked over before extending his hand.
"Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too." Lucas stood up and shook his hand.
"Please sit." The man smiled.
Lucas nodded and took his seat once again. This time however, he stopped eating as the host was now present and a conversation would most likely follow.
"I know this invitation might have come as a surprise to you, but I just wanted to know more about the young man who is working alongside my precious daughter." The man smiled.
Despite his intense aura and somewhat intimidating appearance, the silver-haired man was a lot more calm and dignified than one would expect. He was also polite, which made the atmosphere nice and pleasant.
"I understand." Lucas replied calmly.
Although the explanation sounded just about right, it didn't mean that Lucas would blindly believe him. But since the man was being nice, there was no reason to respond aggressively.
"Oh, where are my manners. I haven't introduced myself." The silver-haired man face-palmed.
"My name is Frolov."
Lucas had a strange look on his face after the silver-haired man introduced himself.
Generally, when two strangers met for the first time and introduced themselves, they did so by stating both their first and last names. However, the silver-haired man had only mentioned one name, which seemed more like a first name than a last name.
Thinking back, Lucas recalled that Vienna had also introduced herself using only her first name. Even until this moment, he wasn't aware of her last name.
Frolov noticed the expression on Lucas' face but he simply smiled and didn't address the matter's confusion.
"I'm guessing you already know but I'm Lucas Saunters."
"A nice name." Frolov smirked.
"This is my son, Damian. You're probably unfamiliar with him, but you might be seeing more of him soon. Beside me is my daughter, Vienna. Although I call her my daughter, she's actually my niece, but I'm taking on the role of her father right now." Frolov explained.
Lucas was surprised as he understood what that meant. He had always wondered why Vienna had nothing in common, in regards to appearance, to her brother, the metallic silver-haired man Damian, and her supposed father, Frolov. But it now made sense; Vienna lost her parents and was adopted by her uncle, Frolov.
"Bring the food." Frolov said to the butler who stood by his side.
The latter immediately left the solarium while Frolov continued the conversation with Lucas.
It started off simple with Frolov asking Lucas what he did for a living, where he was from and some other basic background questions.
Lucas was already aware that the latter had investigated him, as that wasn't something difficult to guess, but he still answered those questions nonetheless. However, he avoided mentioning anything about his past lives.
When the questions began to touch topics that couldn't be investigated, such as his birth place, Lucas made up an answer or would smile mysteriously and choose not to answer. Since both sides were still in a state of formalities and friendliness, Frolov couldn't force him to answer. This was especially so since his true identity was still a secret to Lucas.
The food was brought out and just as expected, it was a sumptuous meal filled with exquisite delicacies, many of which Lucas had never seen before. There was even a side dish meant to accompany the main dish, made from the blood of a seventh level desolate beast.
According to Frolov, this was the lowest level they could be used to make this side dish, so he apologized to Lucas and assured him it was safe. This was because, flesh and blood from such a high level beast was too much for a human to be able to digest as it contained so much energy and nutrients. Indigestion would be the least of a human's problems if they devoured such ingredients. Having one's meridians or veins burst from excess energy, their immune system overreacting, or their organs exploding were common occurrences if a human devoured parts from a high level desolate beast.
But with Frolov's assurance and Vienna's testimony of the chef's skills, Lucas was able to eat such ingredients without worrying.
In truth, even if the chef didn't properly prepare and eliminate the majority of the energy in the ingredients, Lucas wasn't worried. He might not be able to store stellar energy in his body, but that didn't mean that he was completely incapable of manipulating a certain proportion of it.
Stellar energy was basically mystical energy, and Lucas was skilled at manipulating all sorts of mystical energy. Although he faced difficulties with stellar energy due to his lack of mDNA, he could still manipulate a small amount.
As for Melissa, less was needed to be said about her. For some reason, Melissa's ability to absorb and digest stellar energy was far ahead of her age. She was already fast approaching the fourth level of the Apertures Opening stage, so seventh level desolate beast flesh was alright for her.
After dinner, Frolov stood up and left the solarium with the excuse of having some work to do. Lucas was then left with Damian and Vienna. The trio talked a bit, with Damian doing most of the talking and his attention on Lucas.
Surprisingly, Damian was quite relatable despite coming from a reputable household. He was also a vestige-smith, although only a low rank Tier 1 Master. Vestige-smithing wasn't his main focus, which explained why his rank was 'low'.
The discussion ranged across a variety of topics, from every day life to drift racing and even vestige-smithing, giving Lucas an opportunity to talk a bit as well. Damian also spoke about a few gists that were known only among those in the upper class, piquing Lucas' attention.
The conversation dragged on for two hours before it came to a stop. At the end of it, Lucas' opinion of Damian was quite good, although he didn't trust him so much as to call the latter a friend. But they were now more than just mere acquaintances.
After the conversation, Lucas left the estate with Melissa, on the same vehicle that brought them in.
As they left, Damian was already in a study on the mansion's second floor. Seated on the other end of the study was his father, Frolov.
"So, what do you think?" Frolov asked his son.
Damian shook his head.
"I don't think he's one of them. He's a bit more refined and reticent to be so. Also, if he was, he should have known who we are. But I think it's still too soon to judge for sure."
Frolov didn't say a word as he rhythmically tapped his finger on the table while glancing at the ceiling.
"We're running out of time. Everything has to work out without a single mistake." Frolov said.
He then brought his gaze down on his son.
"Keep him close by. He might be of some use to us based on what we know. Support his growth as well. We need him to open up to us, or at least, feel indebted to us. He's a talent that was looked down upon by those countryfolks on Groeten continent. We can't make the same mistake and lose him."
As it turned out, Frolov had indeed done some digging on Lucas. But it was even more detailed than Lucas had expected. Frolov was already aware of Lucas' identity and experience back in Baylands City. What's more, unlike the forces in Baylands City, Frolov surmised that there was no vestige-smith backing Lucas. Instead, he believed that Lucas was the vestige-smith behind the SS vestiges.
Such a conclusion wasn't difficult for Frolov to reach when piecing the information about Lucas' experience and life in Baylands City, to how he operated in Trundel City. Anyone could tell that Lucas was talented in vestige-smithing, and Frolov was open-minded. He didn't let his mindset get stuck with the racial bias that hyumans had of humans.
mDNA might have been the key difference between the two existing species of the Homo genus, but just as how homo-sapiens —or modern man— evolved under artificial stimulus to the hyuman species, it was possible for humans to evolve as well. Thousands of years had gone by since the creation of the first hyuman and proliferation of the hyumankin, so it was possible that under such pressure, the human species might have evolved naturally. This was very possible since the current existing humans weren't pure humans, but simply hyumans who had failed to reach the fundamental mDNA benchmark to be a true hyuman. Chances were that they could evolve or experience a miracle to change their situation.
However, the cases were probably few and far between, which explained why no one has heard about it, especially in such a backwater planet like Eretre.
Frolov was of the opinion that Lucas might be one such naturally-evolved human, a term he made up to define such 'one-in-one-hundred-billion' lifeform.
"Okay, father." Damian bowed before leaving the study.
'This kid's appearance is a bit uncanny. The appointed time is fast approaching and suddenly, such an exception is brought before me. Is this a product of your interference?'
Frolov glanced out the window and into the sky, his gaze seemingly burning past the atmospheric layer that protected the planet.
