Betrothed To An Alpha? I Don't Think So! -
Chapter 101: What Was That?
Chapter 101: What Was That?
Zayne showered, washed thoroughly in the shower, before stepping out of the cubicle.
Of course, he hadn’t killed Silas. He stood to his word, having no intention of killing the man. But did he get the information he needed from him?
He grinned to himself.
Absolutely did.
He’d do anything if it meant finding Evelyn and he stood to his word.
Slipping his fingers into the black compression shirt he owned, he wore a pair of slacks and picked out a coat. He strapped a holster around his chest to his sides and loaded himself with the weapons he needed, then he put on his coat and left the room.
As he headed downstairs, he completely turned off his phone, tossing it aside. He ran his finger through his hair and proceeded outside, making his way over to his car.
However, the moment he was about to get in, someone burst through the gate.
He lifted his head, a bit startled at the sight of Alessio. What was he doing here?
"Zayne!" Alessio ran towards him, grabbing his arm to stop him from getting into the car.
"What are you doing?" Zayne asked.
Alessio blinked at him. "Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why haven’t you been answering your call? I-I’ve been calling over and over again and you’ve refused to answer."
Zayne breathed in. "If you are here to argue with me, enough is enough. I don’t have time for any of that right now and I—"
"No." Alessio shook his head at him. "T-that’s not why I’m here."
"Then what?"
The younger man bit down on his lip before staring at him with pleading eyes. "I’m sorry."
"Sorry for what?"
"I’m sorry for starting a fight with you. I didn’t mean to. I hadn’t meant to at all." He apologized, "The things I’d said to you, I didn’t mean it at all. I would never be that way to you Zayne. I was just..."
He swallowed whatever tears he was about to shed, taking a deep breath. "Nothing was your fault. Dario’s condition is not your fault and I—"
"It’s fine. I didn’t take it to heart," Zayne interrupted, pulling the door of the car open. He tried to get in, but Alessio wouldn’t let him.
"Zayne—-"
"Alessio, I have somewhere to be. When I’m back, we can talk."
"You’re going to save her right?" Alessio asked.
Zayne cocked a brow at him. "Listen—"
"Where is it?" Alessio cut him off. "Let me come with you. You can’t do this alone."
"No."
"Zayne—"
"I said no." Zayne glared. "I already have one brother in the hospital. I can’t afford another. This is my problem and I will handle it alone."
Alessio balled his hands. "So you are mad at me."
"Alessio—"
"This is because of what I said, isn’t it? That’s why you don’t want me to help you."
Zayne gazed at him with a dumbfounded expression.
"Because I said if you hadn’t dumped your problems on us, Dario wouldn’t be in that situation, is that why you’re being like this? Is that why you’re trying to do this alone even though you know how dangerous it is?"
Zayne pinched between his brows. "I’m not mad at you or the nonsense you said. It’s just that you were right. If I hadn’t dumped my problems on you guys, Dario wouldn’t be in that situation. He would’ve been safe and sound by now. So, no, I’m simply trying not to make the same mistake twice."
"I’ll handle my problems by myself," he continued. "At least if I’m dying, I’d be dying alone. So, don’t interfere and go be by Dario’s side in the hospital."
He didn’t even give him a chance of retaliating as he took a reverse and drove out of the compound onto the road.
Alessio’s shoulders rose and fell in heavy breathing.
This was all his fault. If he’d just kept his mouth shut, none of this would have ended up like this. He just had to go ahead and spout nonsense to him.
Balling his hands into fists, he hurried his way over to Enzo who was closing the gate.
"Enzo."
The man turned toward him and deeply bowed. "How may I help you, sir?"
"Do you know where my brother is going?" Alessio asked.
Enzo shook his head. "No. Not that he told me."
Alessio nodded. "Alright, thank you."
He turned away.
Just because Zyne had refused to tell him exactly where he was going to rescue Evelyn, did he really think he wouldn’t be able to find out on his own?
If there was one thing he was good at, it was tracking people down. And he wasn’t ready to let his brother do this alone. He was going to help him and he was going to see to it that both of them and Evelyn made it safe back home.
And with that thought, he left Zayne’s building to proceed to his.
When he arrived though, he’d been startled to find Amber still in his home. He’d forgotten about the human who’d for some reason sparked with him.
Now that he thought about it. Why in the world had he sparked with a human?
He didn’t want a human as a mate. Why would the moon goddess give him one?
And what was he to do with this woman? Should he reject her? But then he might never be able to find another mate. Not everyone was lucky enough to have two mates in a single lifetime.
It was far too rare that he’d never even met anyone who was lucky enough to do so.
The second Amber crossed gazes with him, she rushed over to him, grabbing his hand. The spark zapped through him again, and this time around, it seemed she felt it, because she jolted back, away from him.
Lifting her gaze to his face, she asked, "What was that?"
"What was what?"
He wasn’t going to tell her she’d sparked with him or that she was his mate. She’d think he was crazy.
Amber rubbed her hand. "That thing just now. It felt like electricity."
