Beneath the Surface: Secrets of an Obsessed Heart -
Chapter 47 - 46
Chapter 47: Chapter 46
After five long hours of waiting, Saika’s surgery was finally over and successful. Then they had to wait for three more hours for her to wake up.
"Awww, Saika cooed. "I wish I could give you a hug but my body feels like lead right now."
"Here, I’ll give him one for you." Sora, who had been standing quietly, said, then hugged Hiro.
At first, Hiro was reluctant because he was still not on talking terms with Sora but he soon relaxed and hugged his brother back for he felt better.
"Our sister is alive today because of you, Hiro." He heard Sora whisper. "I know what you did was not easy for you and I failed you as your older brother. Despite that, I still yelled at you and said things I shouldn’t have. I’m sorry Roro."
Sora’s unexpected apology made Hiro cry even more. It felt like everything was finally getting better and he couldn’t help shedding tears of joy. He was just so relieved. It felt like a huge burden had been taken off his shoulders.
"It’s okay." He whispered back. "And I’m sorry too."
"No more silent treatment then?" Sora asked.
Hiro chuckled, knowing his brother hated the silent treatment. "No more."
Saika smiled, thankful that she got another chance at life. She was able to witness a sweet scene. She hoped to recover soon and help her brothers as much as she could.
At that moment, the door swung open, revealing Raiden entering with a doctor and some nurses.
Hiro, who had been hugging Sora, broke the embrace, surprised by Raiden’s unexpected return after nearly eight hours of disappearance.
Suddenly, the thoughts of their intimate moment in the private waiting room consumed his mind and anger brewed within him as he reflected on Raiden taking advantage. What began as a request for a simple kiss had escalated beyond boundaries. Raiden had broken his promise, revealing his true character. Hiro realized that Raiden’s recent kindness and gentleness were mere facades and he felt like a fool for falling for it. He should have known that Raiden could never change.
Even back when it happened, instead of apologizing, Raiden had fled and left him there alone, half naked, hurt, and angry.
Would he be able to forgive Raiden and trust him again? He didn’t think so but it all depended on what Raiden would say or do about it.
Sora stood beside Hiro, watching them all. After being threatened by Raiden earlier and nearly being thrown off the balcony, he decided to just keep quiet and mind his business. Besides, he was sure his little brother could handle it. Hiro would never take on more than he could chew. Unlike him who went ahead and signed a contract for making porn. Which he was still bound to.
"What’s going on?" Hiro asked, confused at the number of nurses that had filed in with Raiden and the doctor. He counted twelve. "Why did you bring so many nurses?"
The head nurse, an elderly woman, kindly smiled, "Mr Watanabe, my name is Nurse Mei. Mr. Yamato requested us to relocate your sister to a more suitable room."
The twelve nurses in pink uniforms with white caps, lined up and bowed respectfully, assuring them, "Your sister will now be under our care. We’ll ensure her recovery."
Stunned by the unexpected development, Hiro inquired; "Under your care? What do you mean?"
"These nurses are expert caretakers, Hiro." The doctor explained. "Mr Yamato here has already paid them to take good care of your sister."
Nurse Mei nodded. "We’ll handle all her needs. You need not worry."
"Mr Yamato, you shouldn’t have." Saika said, feeling thankful. "You already paid for my surgery. You don’t need to do this for me. My brothers can take care of me."
Raiden, who had avoided Hiro’s gaze since he stepped into the room, smiled politely at Saika. He wanted to say; ’Who says I’m doing it for you? I’m doing it so that Hiro wouldn’t have to take care of you all the time and I’ll be able to make him fall in love with me.’
Instead, he said; "I understand, but I believe the nurses will take better care of you than two men. There are certain things you’ll need women for. Is it not so?"
Knowing what Raiden said was true, Saika blushed and nodded. "You’re right. Thank you."
Hiro was confused and he felt a little offended. Did Raiden think he wasn’t qualified enough to take care of his own sister? "Certain things like what?" He asked. "What can they do that I can’t?"
The nurses giggled as some of them proceeded to transport Saika to another room.
"Forget it Roro." Sora chuckled, ruffling his hair. His brother was still innocent. "Just let them do it."
Hiro didn’t understand why they were all laughing after he spoke but since his brother told him to forget it, he let it go.
Soon enough, the nurses wheeled Saika out of the room. The doctor and Sora followed but Hiro stayed behind so he could speak to Raiden.
He was the type of person that didn’t like keeping things on his mind or holding grudges. They always made him feel uncomfortable and he’d think about it non-stop until he gets it out of his chest.
He felt it was better to clear the air between them and know their status with each other. He wanted Raiden to promise never to do such a thing again. Although Raiden had broken his first promise, he still deserved a second chance. Everyone did.
After all, he was taking care of Saika was the basic requirement for the entire arrangement.
When everyone left, Raiden closed the door and walked towards Hiro who had his arms folded, glaring at him. "Don’t you have anything to say to me?" He demanded.
Raiden looked at his face and couldn’t help but smile. Angry Hiro was very cute. In the past, because he was a bit chubby, his face would puff up but now that he had lost a lot of weight, he looked a bit serious but still childish.
