Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Anima(Part 7)
"Y-Yes! I win!" Kia exclaimed triumphantly.
"How...?" Muttered Lloyd in disbelief.
"Woah, what a comeback after such a disastrous start in the first round," Remarked Akila in awe.
"I-I got a lot of good cards in those sixteen cards I had to draw in round one, s-so it actually ended up working out really well for me," Smiled Kia, stretching her arms up.
"That was pretty impressive, you dominated the game from that point onwards," Chimed in Huskie.
"Do we keep going or does it end when one person wins?" Inquired Kora, as she stared at her hand, three cards left.
"Well, I think most people go with rule that the game ends when one person wins, but I don’t see why we can’t keep going to determine second place and the subsequent-...," Began Akila.
"Hm? Wait, hold on...something isn’t right. Something about the Mana in the air just changed," Frowned Raven, standing up before stiffening as the echo of the explosion from the entrance rang out, the room shaking slightly, bits of dust raining down from the ceiling.
"What was that?!"
"Sounded like an explosion, is the hotel under attack?!"
"Everyone, get back! I just sensed multiple presences teleporting to the corridor outside the room!" Exclaimed Raven, right as the door to the room got blown off its hinges with a fierce blast and flew into the room.
It hit the floor with a crash, before several spheres were tossed in through the open doorway, erupting as they hit the floor, a large cloud of smoke bursting out.
"This is...poison!" Realized Raven, swiftly transforming and extending out several tendrils as the others began coughing, unleashing a burst of flames at the doorway to keep the assailants at bay.
Mouths formed at the end of his tendrils, opening up and inhaling powerfully to suck up the poison, before chanting as he wiped out the toxic gas...
"[Area Antidote]!"
"Th-Thanks, but, uh...are you okay?" Inquired Huskie, staring in bewilderment at the tendrils as Raven retracted them.
"Yeah, poison has no effect on me, I’ll be fine."
"Thank you for that. Now, then...," Muttered Kora with a dark look in her eyes as she turned her gaze towards the doorway and cracked her knuckles, several hooded figures coming into sight on the other side, continuing with a growl, "I don’t know who you people are, but you’re going to regret this."
An intense burst of lightning erupted around her, wrapping around her entire body as her hair stood up on end, her eyes gleaming with a sharp electric glow as she coated her entire body in lightning.
"The rest of you should stay back. We’re here as your bodyguards, after all," Remarked Huskie, drawing out her sword, a burst of wind erupting around the blade as she stepped up beside Kora.
Kora crouched down on all fours, the hooded figures swiftly backing away as she shot forward in a rapid, electric blur, Huskie swiftly following her lead with a burst of wind from her back to launch herself forward.
As the two of them shot out of the doorway, one of the hooded figures suddenly took out a Spell Card and activated it, the pair vanishing from sight in the blink of an eye.
"Shit!" Exclaimed Raven, extending out his claws and stepping forward as another of the hooded figures charged towards the doorway, rushing into the room.
Raven’s eyes began glowing as he locked onto the figure, unleashing a rapid, piercing burst of purple energy right as the figure activated another Spell Card, crying out as Raven’s beams struck his chest and drilled through, before the Knights and Nero vanished from sight.
The hooded figure collapsed onto the floor, a smoking hole through the middle of his chest, as the other hooded figures gathered up.
"Looks like we pulled it off."
"Seems we failed to weaken them with the poison. That freaky human with the scales consumed it all and healed the rest of them."
"He didn’t seem affected despite inhaling all of it, he must be immune to poison or something. Maybe we shouldn’t have used all the poison smoke bombs, what a waste."
"It doesn’t matter, our job remains the same. Let’s go kill them."
Meanwhile, in one of the rooms in the hotel...
"Uh...where are we?" Frowned Huskie, before turning her gaze across as a loud crash rang out.
"What the...?! What is with this barrier?! I can’t break through!" Exclaimed Kora, unleashing a blast of lightning at the barrier surrounding the inside of the room, but to no avail.
"No...they’ve trapped us. They teleported us to an empty room sealed in a barrier," Remarked Huskie with a grimace.
"Yeah, thanks for stating the obvious. Idiot."
"Hey! Being mean about it isn’t going to help!"
"Whatever, we need to figure out a way to get out of here! I’ve never failed any assignment given to me, if even one of our guests gets hurt, or worse, killed, it’ll be an irredeemable failure. Got any ideas?" Inquired Kora, as she struck the barrier with a crackling lightning bolt in frustration.
"No clue. If this barrier is strong enough to take attacks from you and remain intact, there’s nothing in my arsenal that could make a difference," Huskie shook her head.
"Useless..."
"Wha-...?! Hey, it’s not like you’ve got any bright ideas yourself!"
"Tch, shut up, you’re too loud."
"You’re such a jerk..."
In a different room in the hotel...
"I see, so that’s your play. Divide and conquer, huh? I’m assuming each of the others have been isolated in a room like this too?" Inquired Akila with a grimace, drawing out his blades as his darted between the two hooded figures that had teleported into the room about a minute after he found himself in the space.
"That’s right, you and your friends will be slaughtered in this place. You filthy humans should never have stepped foot in our nation, you brought this on yourselves!" Exclaimed one of the figures, forming a stone arrow before taking aim with it across a bow and firing it Akila.
"What the...?" Blurted out the other one, as Akila let the arrow phase through his chest.
"Sorry, but killing us is going to prove a lot more difficult that you might expect," He remarked, stepping forward as he swung one of his blades across.
Elsewhere in the hotel...
"Hah, look at this one, she’s completely terrified! Not that I can blame her, she is about to die, after all."
"I almost feel bad, guess I’ll put her out of her misery quickly."
"Go ahead, doesn’t seem like she’ll put up much of a fight, so it’ll be overkill for both of us to fight. I’ll leave her to you."
"U-Um...you don’t have to do this," Muttered Kia nervously, as one of the hooded figures stepped forward, taking out a dagger.
"Unfortunately for you, yes we do!" Exclaimed the hooded figure, rushing towards her as he raised his dagger, sparks of lightning crackling around it.
As he closed in on her, she brought out her twin blades from her Storage Ring, letting out a slow exhale before swiftly twisting her body across as the figure slashed at her neck with the dagger, his eyes widening in surprise as she evaded his attack with ease, before crying out sharply as she shot past him and whipped one of her blades across, inflicting a deep gash across his right side, just below his ribcage.
He stumbled forward shakily as blood gushed out and streamed down, beads of sweat pouring down his face as he gritted his teeth in pain, stiffening as a gleeful chuckle rang out.
"Ohh, it’s been so long since I got to cut flesh, I haven’t even fought any Monsters lately...how I’ve missed this feeling! Try not to die too quickly, okay? I want to savor this!" Exclaimed Kia with a wide smirk across her lips, as she swung her blade across to get the blood off.
In another room...
"Well, this sucks. What a pain," Sighed Lloyd, before adding, "I should probably capture instead of kill, that’s going to be a lot tougher."
"How foolish, can’t you see we’ve got you outnumbered?"
"Yeah, you’re the one who’s going to be killed, not us."
"Sure, I’m outnumbered, but only by one. I can take on two opponents without a problem...after all, it’s pretty clear that you’re both weaker than me," Lloyd smirked tauntingly, as he drew out his blades.
Elsewhere...
"Wait, this one’s an Elf, should we really kill him too?"
"Yeah, might as well. The Elves helped the humans, so we should send them a message, killing this one should be a sufficient enough warning."
"I guess you’ve got a point."
’How foolish. You will die’, Nero wrote across the air, as he drew out a dagger, streaks of dark energy starting to swirl around him as he cracked his neck with a tilt of his head.
In another room in the hotel, where the last of the group had been teleported to...
"Is this one really human? He looks like a Monster."
"Who cares? Let’s just kill him along with the rest."
"Kill me? Really, now? Weaklings like you?" Scoffed Raven, before adding, "I’ll give you one chance. Surrender quietly, while you still can. Because I can guarantee you’ll regret it if you don’t. Trust me, you don’t want to fight me."
"Hah, what a sad bluff, you freak! We’ll regret nothing!"
"That so? Alright, then...I’ll play along," Responded Raven with a dark gleam in his eyes, before the two hooded figures tensed up in horror as he unleashed his Aura, an intense, oppressive pressure filling the room.
"Wh-What...what is this? This Aura...I-I’ve never..."
"H-How...how is this possible?!"
