Chapter 455: Chapter 0455: Trainee Life 3_1
Feng Qingxue attended the training, surprisingly similar to high school students, she could go home once a week to do laundry and get food. Normally, she ate in the hospital staff canteen. If she had a Grain Ticket, she could use it to buy food, otherwise, she could exchange food.
Of course, she chose to use the Grain Ticket. She had a private stock of food to curb her hunger; even with the Grain Ticket, she bought very little food.
There were about thirty educated youths participating in the training; these were all who could come from manufacturing teams across the city. They were men and women, the oldest being in their thirties and the youngest sixteen or seventeen. Everyone was very diligent, studying with great eagerness.
After imparting half a month of basic medical knowledge, the hospital arranged for them to have clinical practice.
This practice did not involve them personally treating patients or performing surgeries. Instead, they were to learn from experienced doctors. Possibly considering gender differences, female youths were all assigned to the obstetrics and gynecology department.
Receiving births, postnatal care, etc., there wasn’t a single male youth.
Apart from Feng Qingxue, there were two other young men and women from a Traditional Chinese Medicine Family. They had been trained in medicine since childhood, even surpassing Feng Qingxue. As for the others, they had no foundation at all. Thus, while those people started from scratch, Feng Qingxue and the two medical heirs named Zhou Chengfeng and Chen Yuwan passed a certain assessment and could treat patients, diagnose, prescribe, and so on. Most of them were minor illnesses; the three of them were adept at it, their prescriptions never being denied by their supervising doctor.
Feng Qingxue cherished this rare clinical practice, as did the other two.
Being around each other day and night, they quickly formed a bond of revolutionary friendship.
Zhou Chengfeng and Chen Yuwan both had urban households, and their fathers were sworn siblings, both students of Chen Yuwan’s grandfather. They addressed each other as brother and sister, and came to participate in this training only because they wanted to practice medicine. For people like them who learned from elders, unless they were admitted to a national medical university and obtained relevant certificates, they would not be qualified to practice medicine.
"You already have a child?" Chen Yuwan was one year older than Feng Qingxue but was not married yet. She was very lively and her round apple-like face was very likable, she was just a bit short. She tilted her face, looking incredulously at Feng Qingxue’s face which was still extraordinarily delicate and bright even after removing her makeup, "I couldn’t tell at all, I thought you were a maiden like me!"
Feng Qingxue replied with a smile, "My son is almost one year old, and you still call me a maiden!"
Chen Yuwan remarked, "No wonder you communicate with the female patients who come for treatment without any problems."
Since the city had a small population, there weren’t many people who came to the staff hospital for treatment, giving them plenty of leisure time. During their free time, the three of them would discuss their techniques and viewpoints to learn from each other and improve their shortcomings.
Through learning with them, Feng Qingxue increasingly realized her shortcomings.
She embarked on the path of medicine halfway through her life, her foundation was not solid, far inferior to Zhou Chengfeng and Chen Yuwan, who had been learning from their elders since childhood, growing up in the aroma of medicine.
It seemed they were developing into a pair.
However, Feng Qingxue also had her advantages. Her advantage was that she had accumulated a lot of experience in treating patients and delivering babies. Even though Zhou Chengfeng and Chen Yuwan were older, their experiences were not as rich as hers. They had neither gone to the countryside to treat people nor understood certain aspects. It was no wonder Wu Zheng approved of her studying medicine and said that her experience was a wealth in itself.
The difference between a doctor who has been through personal experience and one who hasn’t is immense.
Chen Yuwan said, "My grandfather once told me, personal life experiences are extremely important for a doctor. They are related to the communication between the doctor and the patient. Like me, who has not experienced certain things, I tend to have disjointed conversations with patients."
