Armor-Piercing Munition: Face Me, Carbon-Based Monster! -
Chapter 55 Practice Shooting
Chapter 55: Chapter 55 Practice Shooting
Cleaning and organizing the equipment within the fortifications took the team a whole day. A large number of temporarily unused weapons and tools were re-packaged and stored, while those needed in the short term were carried directly.
The rack behind Chen Jian’s exoskeleton still wasn’t full, although they added a recoilless rifle, they removed a wrist-mounted missile launcher in return.
His original supply of LG6 ammunition wasn’t replenished either, but fortunately, the assembly of the cat-car went smoothly, and with two 35mm automatic grenade launchers mounted, he really felt that the LG6 with only a six-round magazine didn’t have much use anymore.
After setting up a QJZ-301 heavy machine gun and a horizontally mounted QJG-22 anti-aircraft machine gun at the vantage point near the fortification entrance, Chen Jian left Shen Yue and Lei Jie to guard the place. Meanwhile, he took He Shuo and another three Holy Blood members onto the fully-equipped cat-car under the cover of darkness.
One ignition, one start.
Shandong cat, it’s powerful!
The five-member team went out fully loaded, traveling along the relatively good condition bridge, moving southwest in preparation to return to Han Shui.
In the backseat, Zeng Yi and Xie Liu were quite curious about this small, fast-moving vehicle. Seeing their expressions, Chen Jian felt like he was sitting in someone else’s car for the first time as a child in the countryside.
A few minutes after setting off, Xie Liu couldn’t help but ask:
"...Is the principle of this... cat-car the same as the principle of the Mechanical God Sect’s steam locomotive or steamship?"
"How can it go so fast, and why does it have such a cute name?"
"...Actually, its original name wasn’t that cute; it was us who named it."
Chen Jian shook his head with a smile and answered while driving:
"You can learn about its principle slowly. Lei Jie has confirmed that the 7025 terminal stores a wealth of knowledge content. Once things calm down a bit, you can slowly have lessons."
"For now... you both just need to watch my operation and learn to drive it as soon as possible."
"Understood."
"Understood."
The two of them answered in turn, each craning their necks to watch Chen Jian turn the steering wheel, step on the accelerator, and brake. Though they had no clue about driving, they started to notice some hints.
The more they watched, the more they marveled at the wisdom of humans from the old times.
At this point, it wasn’t just Xie Liu, even Zeng Yi started to doubt why they had once believed in the so-called "teachings" of the Holy Blood Temple.
Chen Jian noticed the look of contemplation mixed with a hint of regret on his face and probably guessed what he was thinking, so he asked:
"Do you know why I didn’t use Li Shi to keep you two separated? Do you know why I made you sit in the same car?"
Zeng Yi was startled, and before he could open his mouth, Chen Jian continued:
"Actually, considering your close relationship with Xie Liu, we initially planned to separate you two during the upcoming actions."
"After all, it would be safer that way. If you were plotting something, it wouldn’t be so convenient to communicate."
"But then, I thought it over."
"Truth can be proven. When something representing the truth is placed in front of you, you don’t even have to think and you know it’s right."
"Am I right?"
Zeng Yi took a deep breath, nodded slowly, and said:
"Yes, absolutely."
"Thank you."
Chen Jian waved his hand and said:
"No need to thank me."
"In the short term, we may not become comrades, but we can at least be friends first."
After that sentence, the atmosphere among the three in the vehicle suddenly eased a lot.
Xie Liu and Zeng Yi exchanged a smile, and many things became clear without needing words.
The lynx continued to move forward, and Xie Liu asked again:
"Why do we have to return to Han Shui? If it’s just for food, we actually have many other ways to obtain it."
"Because we need to claim our reward and also prove our existence."
Chen Jian answered without hesitation and then continued:
"Of course, there’s a third objective this time, which is to conveniently clear some of the moles active in the area."
"Come on, we’re almost there."
"Xie Liu, open the bag I gave you earlier and spill it out."
"No problem."
Xie Liu immediately took action, and Chen Jian braked sharply.
After the bag was opened, Chen Jian instructed Xie Liu to get out of the car and pour the contents under the overpass. The pungent smell quickly spread, and the Holy Blood members at the center of the stench couldn’t help but cover their noses.
Chen Jian and He Shuo didn’t cover theirs because they had full face masks.
They were positioned at the intersection of Baisha Zhou Bridge and the Yangsigang Expressway, a place with sparse vegetation and extensive terrain.
Once the smell spread, rustling sounds soon came from the surrounding bushes. Within half a minute, Chen Jian could see through the night vision device, the group of moles gathering from all around.
"Here they come, more than 30."
"Seems like the mole colony nearby is quite large... Let them get closer before we attack."
"I’ve taught you how to use this gun, give it a try later."
"Understood."
"Got it!"
Xie Liu and Zeng Yi each held a Type 191 rifle, their expressions somewhat tense.
They hadn’t used guns before, but they were not entirely unfamiliar.
They unlocked the safety and carefully aimed below without saying much.
Moments later, the moles all gathered not far below the overpass, expanding their smell pouches to try to capture a whiff of "human" scent amidst the stench.
Seeing the time was ripe, Chen Jian immediately ordered:
"Open fire!"
"Bang!"
"Bang! Bang!"
Three gunshots rang out simultaneously as Lei Shi, Xie Liu, and Zeng Yi fired.
The recoil from the 7.62mm bullets was nothing to them, and as a result, their accuracy was even higher than Chen Jian had expected.
In an instant, more than five moles fell to the ground.
After personally using the "powerful weapons of the old era" to kill enemies, the tense expressions on the faces of the Holy Blood members gradually disappeared.
In its place was a strange excitement.
The empowerment of oneself is certainly intriguing, but this so-called "empowerment" has its limits.
When they witnessed bullet after bullet with a flaming trail destroying the heads of those creatures, they suddenly realized a truth:
The enhancement of external objects is virtually unlimited.
The speed at which the three fired their guns increased, with their movements transitioning from stiff to skilled.
After emptying their first magazines, they followed Chen Jian’s previous instructions to reload new magazines and continued firing.
The sustained gunfire finally instilled panic in the moles. They no longer clustered together and turned to flee.
Chen Jian wouldn’t give them that chance.
He gestured to He Shuo in the distance, who immediately swung the 35mm automatic grenade launcher toward the ground below.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Intense explosions scattered countless shrapnel over a wide open area, blowing away the moles that hadn’t yet scurried into the bushes and tearing them apart with shrapnel and shockwaves.
Smoke and blood mist filled the air.
The three Holy Blood members gaped at the scene as if divine punishment had descended, practically forgetting to pull the trigger.
Within seconds, silence returned under the overpass.
All that remained were the corpses of more than twenty moles and shallow craters created by the grenades.
After a brief moment of shock, Xie Liu was the first to snap out of it.
She looked at Chen Jian and tentatively said:
"I thought you just wanted us to practice..."
"It was practice,"
Chen Jian nodded, explaining:
"But also to kill as many as possible."
"These moles have a symbiotic relationship with giant monsters. If we don’t clean them out, I fear they could attract new monsters."
"Understood."
Xie Liu nodded again, asking no further.
The group returned to the cat-car and continued heading towards Han Shui.
The three Holy Blood members clearly remained excited, talking more than before.
In contrast, Chen Jian remained calm.
He had a special reason for doing this.
However, this reason was not something the three new teammates needed to know.
They didn’t need to know why they had to keep their distance while shooting.
Nor did they need to know why, when the moles appeared from below, He Shuo’s grenade launcher was aimed at the bridge deck...
