Armor-Piercing Munition: Face Me, Carbon-Based Monster! -
Chapter 54: Grow and Strengthen
Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Grow and Strengthen
Chen Jian and the other six members of the team unpacked all the sealed boxes, neatly arranged the contents on the ground, and then moved the boxes into the corridor. Once everything was sorted, they returned to the first level of the fortifications to inspect everything one by one.
Unlike the second and third levels, the first level of the fortifications was mostly piled with "consumable" supplies.
At a glance, all were various weapons, ammunition, common tools, medicines, and so on.
Chen Jian looked through them one by one, his expression a mix of both relief and concern.
The good news was there was a lot, enough to handle most situations.
The bad news was, after 300 years, many of these items were likely no longer usable.
Exhaling gently, Chen Jian gave orders:
"Shen Yue, first sort out the medicines and check what’s still usable."
"Understood."
Upon hearing this, Shen Yue immediately started moving, beginning to inventory the medicines on the ground, reporting as he went:
"Temperature-controlled packaged adrenaline, 120 amps."
"However, the thermal box has completely failed, its seal is broken. It’s almost certain they’re no longer usable."
"A large quantity of hydrochloride naloxone, a large amount of methylprednisolone-type emergency drugs for multiple organ failure—not usable."
"Anti-radiation drugs like diethylstilbestrol, acetylcysteine, and indoleamine are all hormone and amine types, also not usable."
"There are still a few sulfur-containing metal chelating agents, which I feel are usable, but it seems we don’t need them."
"After all, up to now, we haven’t found any excessive radiation exposure."
"Most of the rest are some common medicines: antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, vitamins, trace element supplements... not much that’s usable, but I think the antibiotic powder might still be useful."
"But it’s best not to take risks—they left us alternatives."
"There’s a complete paper guide on synthesizing vancomycin, accompanied by fermentation tanks, chromatography purification devices, and drying equipment. The only issue is the lack of raw materials, but the guide explains how to isolate Streptomyces orientalis from soil."
"The process is quite challenging, but not impossible to synthesize."
"However, if conditions are limited, making penicillin from oranges is simpler."
"That’s about it, mainly disinfectants for treating external injuries and various surgical and bandaging tools that can still be used."
"That’s enough."
Chen Jian nodded and continued:
"The most likely issue we’ll encounter now is external injuries. As long as we can treat those, everything else can be managed slowly."
"Yes, I don’t see much of a problem either."
Putting down the bandages in his hand, Shen Yue mused:
"But the configuration of these medicines is quite targeted... They seem to remain highly suspicious of radiation but relatively less concerned about viruses."
"Lei Jie, have you finished looking at what’s on the computer? What do the materials uploaded by Hua Xi say?"
Upon hearing his words, Lei Jie, who was engrossed in the various data retained in the terminal, shook his head and said with disappointment:
"The materials uploaded by Hua Xi are pretty regular reports. The data is detailed, but I can’t find any issues."
"Even if we want to look, it’s beyond our level to understand these things. It’s too difficult to grasp those tiny clues."
"And most importantly, there’s a point mentioned here, that even though patients faced multi-organ failure, no apparent damage was seen on their skin, no signs of muscle breakdown, nor any evidence of internal bone radiation damage."
"It’s strange, isn’t this just not radiation?"
"It might also be that they died too quickly to analyze...."
Chen Jian added and then said:
"Forget it for now, let’s look at the weapons directly."
"What do we have?"
As soon as these words left his mouth, He Shuo, responsible for organizing the weapons, immediately perked up.
"There’s a lot!"
"Four PBP201 mortars, the same model we found before, but with integrated optoelectronic targeting systems, and they still work."
"Forty-eight shells, eight boxes."
"One sniper grenade launcher, model marked as QLU-193, lighter than the QLU-131, with a folding stock but a caliber larger than the QLU-131."
"Ammunition includes 120 rounds, five boxes."
"The fear of insufficient firepower has become terminal... twenty years passed and still not cured?"
"It would be strange if it were cured."
Chen Jian gestured dismissively and squatted down intending to inspect, when Zeng Yi, who was standing nearby, suddenly asked:
"Is this the gun you used to take down that mother unit at Chuansha City?"
Chen Jian nodded, responding:
"It’s the same type, but not the same one."
"Understood... very powerful weapons, stronger than some cannons of the Mechanical God Sect."
"Cannons?"
Chen Jian chuckled wryly.
"Can those things even be called ’cannons’? If we ever find something like a 155 howitzer, then you’ll know what a true War God is."
"155 howitzer..."
Zeng Yi nodded thoughtfully, saying no more, but keeping the name filed in his mind.
After mentioning the 155 howitzer, Chen Jian seemed to recall something and continued to ask:
"What about heavy weapons? It’s not all just these individual weapons, is it?"
"There are heavy weapons."
He Shuo stood up and pointed to the boxes behind him, saying:
"These two boxes contain disassembled QJZ-301 machine guns, caliber 12.7*108, with 4000 rounds."
"This box holds a QJG-22 anti-aircraft machine gun, titanium alloy! 14.5 caliber, 8000 rounds."
"... Larger caliber, more bullets, what kind of logic is that...."
Chen Jian joked, and He Shuo replied with a grin:
"With anti-aircraft fire held level, 8000 rounds actually aren’t enough for sustained fire—don’t think that dealing with that bullfrog seemed simple, in fact, it was quite unsafe."
"Now with these two suppressive fire options, even if bullets can’t kill it, they can pin it down on the spot."
"It’s impossible not to penetrate with those."
Chen Jian shook his head and said:
"With the strength of a Level 3 Monster, a round of 14.5 anti-aircraft fire could likely reduce it to dust."
"Though indeed, the bullets are still not plentiful, open fire recklessly and it might only be enough for five or six of them."
"That would be a bit extravagant—there’s the option to use the tubes."
"DZJ19, same model you used before, 24 rounds."
He Shuo flashed his teeth and continued:
"There’s so much of this stuff, to be honest, the space they occupy is enough to fit an infantry fighting vehicle, even making room for a Type 99A."
"I don’t know why they configured the weapons like this...."
Before Chen Jian could respond, Xie Liu suddenly spoke from behind:
"Maybe the forefathers of the old era... didn’t know about monsters?"
"Or perhaps they thought, leaving those things behind, future people wouldn’t necessarily use them?"
As soon as these words left her mouth, Chen Jian was momentarily stunned.
"There certainly might be considerations of that sort... but you know about the Type 99A?"
"You mentioned it when entering Han Shui City, I remembered."
"So that wasn’t a holy statue, but... an infantry fighting vehicle?"
Xie Liu tentatively asked.
"No, the Type 99A is a tank, infantry fighting vehicle is something else."
Chen Jian casually replied, Xie Liu had an epiphany.
She felt that upon entering this underground space, she had stepped into a markedly different world.
The glory of the bygone era was solidified in these weapons, equipment, and medicines that she could not name, compelling her to imagine how powerful that era must have been.
Perhaps if it weren’t for that sudden cataclysm, even monsters would be ants beneath the feet of these God-like humans?
---- No, the chosen ones said they do not believe in gods.
They only believe in themselves.
Was it precisely because they only believed in themselves that they could create such a world?
Xie Liu felt herself getting closer to the chosen ones, but she couldn’t quite articulate why.....
At this moment, Chen Jian hadn’t noticed her subtle change; he had already moved with He Shuo to the largest heap of weapons.
"Here are two more automatic grenade launchers, QLZ-24, 35mm caliber, looking at the racks below, they should be mounted on vehicles, with 480 rounds."
"This is an 82mm PBW024 recoilless rifle, with 24 rounds, including armor-piercing, assault, and explosive shells each, totaling 8 each, overall okay."
"The rest are all rifles, all 7.62 versions of the 191, and four 201 machine guns, also 7.62. There’s too much ammunition to count, estimated well over twenty thousand rounds, must be about twenty boxes at a glance."
"In the short term, at least for light weapon ammo, we’re well-stocked."
"But in terms of heavy firepower... not nearly enough."
"Considering safety, if we compare to previous Level 3 Monsters we took down, we’d be at the potential to eliminate about twenty."
"If we encounter a Second-level Monster, we might only be able to take a few down?"
"It doesn’t work like that."
Upon hearing He Shuo’s estimation, Zeng Yi interjected:
"If you think these weapons can take down twenty Level 3 Monsters, then for a Second-level Monster, you might only be able to kill one or two, or even none."
"That extreme?"
"Yes."
Zeng Yi nodded and continued:
"Though Level 3 Monsters are strong, they aren’t that rare, at least numbering in the thousands."
"But most of the time, they coexist peacefully with humans who don’t encroach their territory."
"Above Level 2, the numbers of monsters diminish sharply."
"Currently, based on recorded outcomes, we estimate that across the entire south, Second-level Monsters number no more than 40."
"And regarding Level 1 Monsters, the Mechanical God Sect has encountered them twice, and the Holy Blood Temple has recorded them four times, with two being the same creature, so we’ve only seen five."
"I see..."
Chen Jian frowned and thought for a moment, then said again:
"But it seems the density doesn’t add up. Considering the territory range of the Level 3 Monster at Han Shui, there’s no way the whole nation could hold so many, let alone the barren areas, wouldn’t the food supply be insufficient?"
"It would be."
Zeng Yi explained again:
"Not all monsters are huge, some Second-level Monsters are just a bit bigger than the mantis you’ve seen, only four or five meters high."
"But their combat power... is formidable."
"Have you seen one?"
Chen Jian keenly asked.
"Yes."
Zeng Yi took a deep breath and answered:
"In Luling. Two years ago, a monster massacred over a thousand people overnight and then retreated back into the mountains."
"To this day, it hasn’t reappeared."
"We were out scouting at that time, but to this day, we still don’t know why it killed people and then left after the massacre."
"The only clue is the name local people gave it, Mountain Demon."
Chen Jian glanced at Xie Liu and Li Shi. They both nodded, confirming Zeng Yi’s account.
It seemed the monster classifications were not as precise as he initially thought; they were purely distinguished by whether humans could handle them.
But fortunately, the current environment was stable enough that there was no need to be overly worried yet.
Thinking of this, Chen Jian stated:
"That’s basically everything. In terms of weapons, we’re genuinely well-stocked now."
"But before that... we have two more concerns."
"Food and shelter."
"The emergency reserves in the fortifications only hold a small amount of food, not enough to last long."
"Next, we need to find a way to secure sufficient food and set up living areas."
"To grow and become stronger, we need both regional development and a Nanniwan."
