Chapter 162: Chapter 57 Air Force Tenth Division Base_2

"My suggestion is to comb through each area one by one."

"If there’s really nothing, then so be it. But as long as we can find one piece, we’ve made a profit!"

"Agreed!"

"Agreed!"

The group responded one by one. Then, under the cover of night, a convoy of two vehicles headed towards the northeast.

They spent a considerable amount of time clearing all the Terror Demon camps along the way and then scavenged according to plan.

Unfortunately, this round of scavenging yielded almost nothing.

They didn’t have the time to collect all the scattered ammunition and weapons, and what they could find in the Terror Demon camps were just some conventional equipment, most of which had already been taken away by the Mechanical God Sect when they retreated.

The remaining scrap metal was almost not worth collecting.

However, they did find the "incomprehensible equipment" mentioned by the Ring Chamber of Commerce.

It was a single-shot rifle modified from an aircraft cannon barrel, clearly not the handiwork of the Terror Demons but rather someone who took it apart, modified it, and provided it to them for use.

In other words, the source of these weapons and equipment was not in the Anqing Ruins at all; the information previously released by the Ring Chamber of Commerce was likely just a ruse.

Upon this realization, Chen Jian decisively ordered:

"He Shuo, keep the drone surveillance."

"Mainly observe the passages around Anqing City. If you discover anyone entering, immediately carry out reconnaissance."

"If we can capture someone from the Ring Chamber of Commerce, it would save us a lot of trouble."

"Roger that."

He Shuo launched the drone, and the group continued advancing towards the Air Force Tenth Division Base.

Four hours later, they arrived at the location of the airport. However, Chen Jian was surprised to find that the area was already completely covered by dense vegetation.

Even concrete over C50 couldn’t withstand the ravages of time.

Chen Jian sent up another drone, first determining the location of the hangar. Then he led the team to cut through the brambles and advance with difficulty.

Moments later, the hangar, which had mostly collapsed, appeared in front of the group.

Through the rusted hangar doors, Chen Jian was stunned to see the familiar aircraft parked inside.

J-20.

The once Six-winged Angel had long been buried under the dust, its dark gray coating had peeled away, and its wings had broken under their own weight due to metal rust.

Yet, even so, when this aircraft appeared before them, everyone could still imagine its former glory.

Even the several Holy Blood members who had never seen it before had the same feeling.

"Is this... mecha?"

Zeng Yi asked hesitantly.

In his knowledge, the most powerful weapons created by the "ancestors" before the great catastrophe were the "Mecha" that Chen Jian and the others had mentioned more than once.

So whenever he saw what he believed to be powerful weapons and equipment, his first reaction was to wonder if it was mecha.

He had asked this question more than once already, but this time, Chen Jian’s answer still disappointed him a little.

"It’s not mecha."

Zeng Yi sighed subconsciously, but immediately, Chen Jian continued:

"It’s something stronger than mecha, much stronger."

"What is it?"

Zeng Yi became excited again. Chen Jian then slowly said:

"It’s a fighter jet, a kind of aircraft that can fight in the air and drop bombs to the ground, like the ones we detonated earlier."

"A fighter jet?"

Zeng Yi was dumbfounded.

He had actually heard tales of combat aircraft and had even seen some paintings drawn by artists.

But those things were completely different from what stood before him!

Yes, this aircraft was large enough, but in any case, it didn’t seem like it could carry huge bombs.

Thinking of this, Zeng Yi asked again:

"Why does this... fighter jet look so small? No, I don’t mean it’s small; I mean, compared to the bombs we detonated earlier, it seems indeed not big enough..."

"Because it’s an air superiority fighter."

Chen Jian waved his hand and briefly explained the types of air force equipment to Zeng Yi. All the people present, including Zeng Yi, were completely overwhelmed by this new knowledge.

Ji Xing looked at the J-20 with awe, unconsciously pondering how she would shoot it down if it were flying in the air.

Perhaps, there would never actually be a chance to shoot it down?

Would it be... invincible?

Before she could think further, Chen Jian had already led the group away from the hangar and started to clear a path in a less overgrown area.

Moving along this path, the runway gradually revealed itself before them.

And when they saw the colossal object at the end of the runway, everyone stopped in their tracks.

Moonlight poured down like molten steel along the serrated tail of the massive figure.

The once silver-gray body was wrapped in the aerial roots of strangler figs, forming a dark green cocoon, except for the two rows of KD-63 cruise missile mounts beneath the fuselage that pierced through the vegetation, their oxidized copper wings trembling in the wind, emitting a rusty wail like wind chimes.

The black radar dome at the nose was cracked like tortoiseshell, clumps of purple spotted irises protruding from the gaps.

The weathered Bayi military insignia was left with only half its red paint, and below it, deep claw marks of some gigantic beast were etched into the steel plates.

Five three-meter-long gouges cut through the skin, exposing the tangled cables inside, which clung to metal fragments like barnacles, eventually hardening into nerve-like lumps.

It had clearly decayed and damaged to the extreme.

Yet, even as it stood silently there, the sense of oppressiveness it exuded was still unmatched.

"This is..."

Zeng Yi was dumbfounded, while Chen Jian took a deep breath before slowly exhaling and answering:

"This is... War God."

"War God..."

Zeng Yi murmured as he approached the massive body, wanting to reach out and touch it but pulled back in fear.

If he thought the J-20 he saw earlier was too small, then this aircraft was too large.

So large that he even believed that if the Mechanical God Sect discovered this aircraft, they would undoubtedly consider it some kind of "sacred relic."

--- And indeed, they would.

Before he could speak, Ji Xing, with a slightly trembling voice, said:

"This is the sacred relic remnants of the Mechanical God Sect... This is the sky’s Iron Wings!"

"I always thought this thing only existed in legend, but I never expected... there was still one here!"

"Not just here."

Chen Jian sighed and said:

"There should be a lot of these ’Iron Wings’ in the world, but they are mostly not in regions where humans are active, so they have not been discovered."

"That’s actually good news... Lei Jie, do you want to see if there’s anything usable?"

"Nothing will be usable."

Lei Jie shook his head and said:

"It’s been over three hundred years. This thing has long since weathered into a pile of useless iron frames."

"It should have collapsed under its weight a long time ago, but the growing plants and vines just happen to hold it up."

"Strictly speaking, it’s no longer the War God..."

"It is merely the remnants of the War God that linger in this world."

"... Understood."

Chen Jian nodded slowly but then said somewhat teasingly:

"Maybe it wasn’t a War God to begin with—perhaps this is a H-6Z?"

"This thing’s chassis is notably different from the War God and should be of a new model."

"... That’s rather absurd."

Lei Jie replied with a chuckle, while He Shuo, crouching down to inspect the weapon mounts carefully, said:

"This thing doesn’t seem to have been tampered with. Did the Mechanical God Sect overlook this spot while scavenging the Anqing Ruins?"

"This place used to be the territory of a Level 2 giant beast, at least long ago."

Ji Xing interjected:

"Anqing City was indeed not scavenged in this area during its establishment. After the monster left, they didn’t continue to venture deep."

"Perhaps they thought the monster hadn’t left, or maybe there’s a more specific reason, but that’s beyond my knowledge."

"Understood."

Chen Jian replied casually and then lowered the drone’s altitude.

After marking a location on the map, he said:

"This should be the entrance to the underground facilities."

"I’m not sure what other facilities might be down here besides an underground hangar."

"But since the surface hasn’t been disturbed, the underground should also remain untouched."

"Let’s go."

"It’s an opportunity to strike it rich."

"If we could find a sturdy Eighty-Eight... we’d truly be invincible!"
