Chapter 242: Preparation for a New Disaster
Chapter 242: Preparation for a New Disaster
Elena quickly gathered everyone inside the space to discuss the rapidly rising temperatures.
She needed to warn them that another disaster was coming.
When everyone arrived, they were surprised to see Ethan finally awake.
But before anyone could greet him, he spoke first and got straight to the point.
"The temperature is rising fast—10 degrees in just one day. I need all of you to prepare. For, extreme heat is coming."
Everyone was stunned. "A 10-degree jump? That’s way too much. If this keeps up, the ice will melt soon, and we might face another flood in just ten days."
"Get everything ready to survive the upcoming extreme heat," Elena instructed. "At the same time, organize the products we can sell in the Paradise shop."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
To be honest, if they had to choose between extreme cold and extreme heat, they would rather face the cold.
It felt more bearable than the scorching heat, which could burn skin and make life unbearable.
"Has the military released any updates about the disaster?" Ethan asked.
"Not yet," Jetro replied, "but rumors are already spreading. It’s only a matter of time before they make an official announcement."
The soldiers stationed in their building had been speaking openly, which only added to the residents’ growing anxiety.
Because of this, many had started stockpiling ice in preparation. But if the extreme heat really hit, all of it would melt without proper storage.
Jetro sighed, realizing their efforts might all end up being for nothing.
"I see. For those who aren’t busy, let’s continue clearing the ice on the rooftop," Elena suggested.
Since the ice plantation wasn’t ready yet and this was their only available source, they had to move fast before the extreme heat arrived.
She then turned to her husband. "We need to clean up the bodies of those who died during the ice age. If we don’t, they’ll start to rot when the heat comes, and that could spread disease or even trigger an epidemic. We should also inform the military or any higher-ups before it’s too late."
"Alright, leave it to me," Ethan replied.
She then instructed everyone to redouble their efforts, and they agreed without hesitation.
The urgency of the situation was clear, and they all understood how important it was to work together in preparing for the extreme heat that was fast approaching.
After hearing Elena’s instructions, Aunt Liza spoke up. "Butler Aki, please prepare medicine for heat stroke—it will surely be needed when the time comes."
"I’ll take note of that, Mistress Liza," Butler Aki responded.
As the manager of the Southern Inventory Sector, he already had a list forming in his mind—purification tablets, bottled water, and other essentials, all ready to be sold in the shop.
Soon after, Elena dismissed everyone to do their individual task.
Meanwhile, Ramon was preparing to head to the military evacuation center, where he planned to open a branch of the Paradise shop within the centre.
Since Elena had already given him instructions, he left quietly without any goodbyes and joined the flow of residents evacuating the building.
As soon as he arrived, he found a secluded spot, put on his mask and Paradise uniform, then began searching for General Kaiser.
Noticing someone in the Paradise shop uniform, a soldier quickly approached, greeted him respectfully, and offered to escort him to General Kaiser’s room.
"Sir, is it true you’re opening a branch here?" the soldier asked.
"Yes, we are—probably by tomorrow," Ramon replied.
"That’s great news!" the soldier said, visibly pleased.
The arrival of the famous shop would be a big help to both the military and the residents.
He even had a bit of stash saved up and was hoping to buy something from the shop himself.
After a brief walk, they finally arrived outside General Kaiser’s room.
"Sir, this is where General Kaiser is currently staying," the soldier announced.
"Thank you, comrade," Ramon said, straightening his uniform as he prepared to knock.
Hearing a knock at the door, Brother Elias paused his meditation and opened it to find a Paradise shop staff member standing outside.
He stepped aside and gestured for him to enter. "Come in."
Ramon nodded and thanked him before walking into the room. He was quite familiar with the abbot—he had been a regular customer at the shop.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" Brother Elias asked.
"Oh no, I’m fine. I’m actually here for General Kaiser. He promised us a good spot for our branch," Ramon replied.
"I see. I’ve heard about that. He’s in a meeting right now, so if you don’t mind, please take a seat," Brother Elias said politely.
"Alright, I’ll wait for him," Ramon replied as he sat down.
"Would you like some tea or coffee? Or maybe a bit of wine or alcohol to warm you up?" Brother Elias offered with a warm smile, subtly trying to coax the staff member into removing his mask.
He meant no harm—he was simply curious. For months now, he hadn’t been able to read the auras of Paradise staff, and that intrigued him deeply.
Now that one had come alone, it would be a waste not to use the opportunity.
Facing the unusually enthusiastic abbot, Ramon felt a wave of confusion.
From what he knew, this man was typically quiet, often observing from the sidelines while General Kaiser handled most of the interactions.
So, for him to act this way now felt suspicious.
However, as Ethan’s trusted manager for years, Ramon was more than capable of dealing with the abbot’s odd behavior.
"I’m good, sir. I brought my own thermal cup, but thanks for the offer," he replied politely, turning down the gesture with a respectful tone.
Sensing Ramon’s guarded tone, Brother Elias felt slightly disappointed, but he kept his smile and gently placed the tea on the table.
To ease the tension, he chose to retreat to his own room and resume meditating.
"Then, I’ll leave you here for a while. I believe General Kaiser will arrive soon," Brother Elias said in a calm voice.
"Alright, sir. Please go ahead," Ramon replied.
He was worried the abbot might insist, making things awkward. So when Brother Elias didn’t press any further, he was silently relieved to be left alone.
A few minutes later, General Kaiser returned and upon seeing the staff member, his face lit up with delight.
"You’re finally here! I’ve already informed the other higher-ups about the shop opening, and they’re fully supportive. They’ve reserved the best unit upstairs for you."
"Then, I thank you on behalf of the Paradise shop," Ramon replied.
"No need to mention it. It’s a simple matter. Please, come with me," General Kaiser said, motioning for Ramon to follow.
As they walked through the corridors of the evacuation center, General Kaiser introduced Ramon to his acquaintances, making sure the Paradise shop staff felt welcomed.
Soon, word began to spread among the refugees that a branch of the famous shop would soon open, and some quietly followed behind to see if the rumors were true.
General Kaiser quickly instructed his men to manage the growing crowd, ensuring that the staff wouldn’t be disturbed by the eager onlookers.
When they finally arrived at the unit, General Kaiser began showing Ramon around. But there wasn’t much to see—the layout was the same as all the other rooms.
"Thank you, General, for this place," Ramon said, inspecting the unit and finding it suitable.
"Haha! Well, to be honest, I also had a reason for personally bringing you here," General Kaiser said, his tone turning more serious. "Let me get straight to the point—do you have any water tanks available?"
"Water tanks?" Ramon echoed. "I’m not sure, but I’ll ask my master about it."
"I’ll be waiting for your response," General Kaiser said with a nod. "Take your time to check the unit—I’ll head back now."
He then gave a quick salute and prepared to leave.
But before he could walk away, Ramon called out, remembering Ethan’s instructions to arrange a meeting with the General regarding the upcoming extreme heat.
"General, wait. My master would like to speak with you. Are you available this afternoon, around 3 PM?"
"Yes, I am," General Kaiser replied.
Though his schedule was packed with preparations for the extreme heat, he recognized the importance of meeting with the Paradise shop’s master and made time without hesitation.
"Great. I’ll inform my master. Let’s hold the meeting here in this unit," Ramon suggested.
"Sure," the General agreed, a hint of anticipation in his voice.
Meanwhile, Elena and Ethan were at the Southeast Training Ground, testing Ethan’s shadow ability.
"I have two skills—one for escape and one for attack."
"Oh? Mind showing me?" Elena asked, curious to see if it was still the same as in their past life.
Ethan smirked, then activated his skill and instantly vanished from sight.
He blended into the shadows cast by the tall buildings, silently watching his wife.
The skill, [Shadow Cloak], allowed him to hide and become invisible within nearby shadows.
Its weakness, however, was that it only worked where shadows existed—bright light made it useless.
Still, it was perfect for ambushes and surprise attacks.
