Chapter 149: Sorry To Disappoint You, But I Only Eat Flesh.
As Kato approached the structure, he picked up hushed whispers and the soft shuffle of footsteps from inside.
He smiled to himself. Fear.
Pushing the door open, he stepped inside, the dimly lit room casting deep shadows along the cracked walls. His sharp eyes instantly picked out a small group of survivors huddled in a corner, their expressions frozen in fear.
Kato’s smirk widened.
"Hey, guys," he greeted casually, his voice smooth, almost soothing. His gaze flickered over to the small pile of food at their feet, food that Scarlett had secretly provided under her invisibility spell.
"I see you’ve eaten well," he continued, stepping closer.
The survivors didn’t respond. They only shrank further into the shadows, their bodies trembling.
One of the survivors, a young woman, hesitantly stepped forward. Her hands trembled, and her voice was barely above a whisper.
"W-Who are you?" she stammered, her eyes fixed on Kato.
"I’m just a hungry traveler," Kato replied, his voice low and smooth. "I should’ve fed on the bad ones earlier, but I wasn’t hungry then. Now, unfortunately, I have to come here."
The survivors exchanged nervous glances. Kato could hear their hearts pounding. He could smell their fear.
"Bad ones?" The woman inquired, as she tilted her head in confusion.
Another survivor, a young man, nodded in understanding chimed in. "Oh, you mean your food went bad?" He let out a shaky breath. "That’s okay. You can share some food with us, then."
Kato smiled, stepping closer, slowly closing the door behind him. "Really? You’re so kind." His eyes flickered across the small group, two women and two men.
One of the survivors, a woman with short, dark hair, grabbed a plate of rice and extended it toward him. "Here! You can have some rice."
But Kato didn’t take the food. Instead, his fingers wrapped around her wrist, firm yet deceptively gentle. The woman thought he was simply reaching for the plate.
She had no idea what was about to unfold.
A sinister glint flashed in Kato’s eyes as his fangs suddenly elongated, his teeth sharpening into deadly points. His entire form tensed with anticipation.
"Sorry to disappoint you," he murmured, his voice dripping with mock sympathy, "but I only eat flesh."
With that, he sank his fangs deep into her arm, tearing through muscle and bone in one brutal motion.
A bloodcurdling scream ripped from the woman’s throat as her severed limb fell to the ground with a sickening thud.
Blood splattered across the room.
The remaining survivors recoiled in horror, their bodies frozen in place as their minds struggled to process what they had just witnessed.
Kato finally turned to face them fully, licking the crimson liquid from his lips.
The wounded woman collapsed, writhing in agony, her screams echoing through the ruined building. But Kato wasn’t done with her yet.
He crouched down, his eyes gleaming with hunger. As her body convulsed, teetering on the edge of turning into something else, he swiftly plunged his claws into her abdomen.
Her screams choked into gurgles as he ripped out her intestines and devoured them in one fluid motion.
A few moments later, her body began to twitch unnaturally, the telltale signs of monstrous transformation setting in.
But Kato had no intention of letting her turn.
With one swift movement, he severed her head from her body, the lifeless corpse collapsing into a growing pool of blood.
Silence.Then, a muffled sob.
Kato’s gaze snapped to the remaining survivors, who were huddled together, their faces drained of color, their bodies trembling like leaves in the wind.
One of the men, in a last, desperate act of bravery, grabbed a nearby chair and lunged at Kato with a terrified roar.
It was a foolish attempt.
Kato barely moved, just a flick of his wrist and the chair shattered against the wall as if it had been struck by a hurricane.
And then, with lightning speed, Kato lashed out, his claws raking across the man’s chest.
The survivor let out a strangled cry, stumbling backward as blood gushed from the deep wounds.
Kato didn’t give him a chance to recover.
In one swift motion, he grabbed the man by the jaw, pinning him against the wall.
Then, a sickening crack.
The man’s cheek split open as Kato tore a chunk of flesh from his face, blood spilling like a broken dam.
The survivor’s screams filled the room, merging with the terrified cries of the remaining two.
Kato’s hunger was insatiable.
Not wanting Scarlett to sense the presence of newly turned monsters, he made quick work of his prey. He ripped through the man’s stomach, pulling out his intestines, then before the man’s body could finish convulsing, another swift decapitation.
The head rolled across the floor, stopping near the blood-stained feet of the last two survivors.
Their fate was already sealed.
And so, the massacre continued.
By the time the last survivor fell lifeless to the ground, Kato finally stilled, his body heaving with exertion.
His eyes, glowing with an otherworldly hunger, slowly returned to their usual shade. His breathing steadied.
His pulse slowed.
And then
Silence.
Kato cast a glance toward the other buildings in the area.
The survivors inside had surely heard everything.
But none of them dared to come out.
To them, this wasn’t a man slaughtering people, it was just another monster. Another senseless beast on a rampage.
Some of them had likely accepted their fate already. Instead of stepping outside to help, they remained hidden, waiting for their turn to die.
Kato smirked.
Without wasting time, he quickly dug a large hole in the ground. One by one, he tossed the bodies inside, covering them with soil.
Then, using his water element, he washed away every trace of blood, scrubbing the room clean of evidence.
By the time he was done, it was as if nothing had ever happened.
He sighed, rolling his shoulders.
"I’m still hungry, though." He muttered to himself, licking the last traces of blood from his fingers.
"When was the last time I actually ate fully?"
With one final glance at the eerily silent building, Kato turned and disappeared into the night.
