Chapter 219: Work Of The Sage

Cassandra had not been informed. Everyone knew that a single piece of news would cause the entire war centre to collapse. Cassandra would be angry with everyone for this reason alone, but it had to be done.

After all, Cassandra wasn’t just overseeing one or two fronts. The Sage of Life was the one who informed everyone about every front in the world, whether each barrier was being defended, how many demons were at the obstacles, where each army should advance, and at what speed... in short, Cassandra’s job was already enormous.

Juliet, on the other hand, was protecting the barrier of Shorekeeper City.

Cassandra leaving her position would be like the beginning of an apocalyptic scenario.

For Atlas, however, everything was completely different.

His mind and body were still fighting against the poison itself. He was aware of the people outside trying to help him.

Every second, he heard Aveline and his sister Eva calling out to him, but he couldn’t understand where their voices were coming from.

Everything continued to darken with every passing second. Every punch he threw hurt him, but he managed to fight back against the poison.

It was just as his copy had said. Atlas must be in a crucial location because the poison was targeting him directly.

Perhaps it was protecting his heart, or perhaps his brain. Whatever it was protecting, Atlas knew that once the poison reached him, everything would end.

How much time had passed?

How many days?

Perhaps it had only been minutes, not days?

What about hours?

He didn’t know what was happening, how much time had passed, what state the battle outside was in, or how close those outside were to rescuing him.

The only thing he knew was that he had to swing his right fist at one piece of demon poison and his left fist at another.

Other than that, he knew absolutely nothing.

Still, he didn’t stop for even a second.

Even though his condition outside was like that of a corpse, and even though a bruise appeared on another part of his body with every passing second, everything was for him.

He wasn’t tired; he was simply aware that the poison was pressing down on him more strongly with every passing second. This was naturally very dangerous because at any moment, when Atlas swung his left fist, he could be struck from the left or from behind.

He was surrounded by the poison itself.

Perhaps none of this was real, and he was currently in a coma, experiencing a nightmare. Perhaps this was what every Sage had seen in their previous lives... Perhaps the image Cordelia had seen a short time ago was exactly what she had to endure.

He had to keep punching.

When looking from his mind, days had already passed, and in the fullest sense.

Aveline hadn’t slept for a single second, and even when Eva slept, she had only slept for a few minutes right next to Atlas and then continued to call out to her little brother.

Atlas had been bedridden for a full week and a half.

At the end of one and a half weeks, he managed to open his eyes slightly and, even though he was almost blind, he could see Eva’s face and Aveline right next to her.

When Eva and Aveline noticed what was happening, Eva immediately took the stone from the table next to her and broke it into pieces with her bare hands.

As if it were a signal, each Sage entered the room from the outer area.

Each of them was covered in blood, and the chaos outside seemed to have grown even more intense.

The last person to enter was Cosmo, and it was possible to see that his mouth was filled with demon blood. The old man seemed to be overly agitated. To be honest, it was a rather frightening sight.

Although Atlas couldn’t see clearly, he could clearly make out the figures of Eva and Aveline. He couldn’t move his body, but he tried to move himself towards the two women lying next to him, as if trying to lift his arm.

"Si---ster..." he managed to say after a short while. Even uttering these words caused a little blood to come out of his mouth and run down the corners of his lips.

"I’m here, Atlas. Your sister is here," said Eva, touching Atlas’s hand. The young woman was unaware of how much pain this caused Atlas, but Atlas himself didn’t care.

Hearing his sister’s voice while he was conscious rather than unconscious gave him strength.

"M—um..." he added to his own words, this time addressing Aveline.

"Your one and only mother is here, my dear child," said Aveline in a soft tone. Unlike Eva, Aveline could feel the pain Atlas was experiencing. The vibrations emanating from Atlas’s body were sharp enough for an Ancient Dragon to hear.

Even now, Aveline was aware that Atlas’s body was fighting. She could sense the poison inside him and almost hear his screams.

The only reason Aveline wasn’t as afraid as the others was that these screams weren’t coming from Atlas. It was as if the Ancient Woman was aware that the screams were coming from the devil’s poison.

She had to admit that it was quite interesting, but it was also terrifying.

When Bellatrix passed through all the Sages, with the help of her magic, she managed to lift Atlas’s head slightly from where he lay, and then said, "This potion will help you a little, Atlas. Trust me, I am very close. I have learned a lot from the sample I took from your blood. I will save you."

Though Atlas couldn’t understand any of these words, he continued to wait with his mouth open.

Bellatrix slowly made him drink every last drop of the potion from the bottle and then gently laid Atlas back on the bed using her magic.

The wait had begun, but it had never lasted this long before.
