Chapter 216: I Won’t Be Dying, Teacher
When Atlas turned his gaze to Talon, it was as if Talon was telling Atlas where Cordelia was with his eyes.
It was as if Talon was using his eyes to express sentences consisting of dozens of words.
When Atlas began walking as if there were nothing inside the enlarged tent and moved toward the place he understood from Talon’s gaze, it was as if he had been teleported to another place.
It was clear who was there.
The tent had suddenly grown as large as a mansion room, and it was very clear that someone was lying on the bed in the room.
Cordelia was lying on the bed, sweating, with dark circles under her eyes and veins visible to the naked eye, wearing only a nightgown.
Atlas furrowed his brows at that moment. He knew exactly what this poison was. It was a replica of the symptoms of the poison that had killed the Sages in his previous life.
He had seen Cordelia in battle a few times. Each time, her veins were purple and glowing emerald green, her skin was snow-white, and the area under her eyes was purple, painted with a dead expression.
Cordelia had been exposed to the poison again.
Atlas, without even considering the possibility of the poison infecting him, had walked over to his teacher, who had supported him for years, and without hesitation, sat down on the edge of the bed and took Cordelia’s left hand.
"I’ve never seen you this weak before, my lady," Atlas said suddenly. He could almost see that Cordelia was awake.
When Cordelia slowly opened her eyes, she managed to say, "I didn’t want you to see me like this," and made it clear that she wanted Atlas, who was holding her hand, to leave.
"I’m not going anywhere," Atlas replied directly.
"I don’t want you here... What if the poison spreads to you?" Cordelia muttered. With every word she spoke, her vision grew blurry.
"My lady... You have supported me selflessly for years. You have become someone I can see as my mother, though I have never called you that. In my previous life, you were also exposed to this poison, but I had never seen it this severe... Perhaps it was because in my previous life, this poison was distributed among all seven Sages..." Atlas had said.
Immediately after that, Atlas had said, "I won’t let you die, my lady," and had immediately begun focusing directly on the fourth spell circle.
What Atlas was trying to do was foolish... deadly... the very thought of it showed how reckless he was acting, but he was doing all these thoughts and the actions he was about to take for Cordelia’s sake.
Because Cordelia was worth it.
Cordelia couldn’t understand what Atlas was trying to do, but she could sense the strange feeling that had filled the room.
The deep purple and emerald green colours in the Great Woman’s veins seemed to be moving towards her left hand. Cordelia had managed to realise what was happening.
Still, Cordelia did not have the power to stop Atlas at that moment.
"Stop..." Cordelia said.
"You shouldn’t do this..." the Great Woman said angrily.
"This is complete stupidity!!!" the Ancient Woman managed to shout somehow.
Still, it was futile.
Atlas closed his eyes and focused all his power on the fourth of the eleven magic rings surrounding his heart, a dark green and purple smoke that seemed to emit flames, and began to draw the poison from Cordelia’s body.
[STOP!!!] A message came from Nyx.
[NONSENSE!!!] A message came from Thanatos.
[HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND, ATLAS?! STOP IMMEDIATELY!!!] Another message came from Chronos.
Despite the dozens, hundreds of system messages forming and the system voice echoing in his mind each time, Atlas did not open his eyes for even a second, keeping his focus entirely on absorbing the poison.
A minute had passed. This was already deadly.
Five minutes had passed. This could destroy the ecosystem of an entire continent.
Ten minutes had passed. It was a dose of poison that would drive even an Ancient Dragon to kill itself.
Thirty minutes had passed. This was a dose of poison that would damage a Sage’s connection to magic.
An hour had passed. This was every last bit of poison in Cordelia’s body.
When Cordelia finally managed to gather herself enough to take a deep breath, when the magical quality in her body returned to her and her energy came back to her, she suddenly jumped up from where she was and tightly gripped Atlas.
"HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?!" Cordelia shouted.
Atlas opened his eyes at that moment and looked at Cordelia.
When Cordelia looked at Atlas’s body, tears began to fall from her eyes. Every vein in Atlas’s body was glowing the same shade of purple and green. His right eye was purple, his left eye was green, and blood was flowing from his eyes.
The poison had already taken effect.
Cordelia, with a panic that even the gods and goddesses had never seen before, laid Atlas on the bed and then shouted:
"Atlas... ATLAS!! Open your eyes!!"
Atlas had already closed his eyes and was breathing heavily.
Atlas managed to open his eyes slightly and looked at Cordelia.
"Don’t worry..." Atlas said, and then added with a smile, even in his current state, "I won’t be dying anytime soon."
With that, Atlas lost consciousness, and Cordelia immediately rushed to the other side of the tent, barely noticing that she was nearly naked in her nightgown, and shouted at Talon:
"TALON, HAVE YOU FOUND A CURE?!"
Those words alone were enough to explain what had happened to everyone.
As the panic grew inside the tent, something completely different was happening in the depths of Atlas’s mind.
The young man had opened his eyes, as usual, in his past... no, in his future, which no longer existed. He saw himself again, or rather, the version of himself that had existed for years.
He saw dozens of himself.
He couldn’t quite understand what was happening, but the only thing he knew was that since he had joined the academy, he had been seeing different versions of himself as the years passed, and each one was glaring at him with incredible anger.
It was as if... his subconscious was trying to scold him.
