Chapter 214: Connection

When they saw Atlas riding the ancient dragon standing in front of all the other dragons, they knew that everything was fine.

When the commotion in the city subsided and Atlas entered the palace alongside each ancient dragon behind him, he turned around and, looking at Aveline, said, ’Welcome home, mother,’ in a way that surprised both Cassandra and Juliet.

Of course, neither of the two Sages had expected to hear the word ’mother.’

Still, every second that Atlas’s memories came to mind, it was only natural for them to remember the relationship between Aveline and Atlas.

It could truly be said that they were like mother and son.

"So this is where we live?" Cosmo asked.

The moment the old man opened his mouth, the entire palace was filled with magical energy.

Cassandra had instinctively begun to respond to Cosmo’s meaning, and even though the two of them didn’t notice, every vampire and elf around them had fallen to the ground and fainted.

If it weren’t for the Life Stone in Atlas’s heart, he would probably have fainted too, caught between two such pure meanings.

"Can someone help Irene?" Atlas asked, and as Juliet began to carry Irene, Atlas said, "Follow me."

It was time to call Constantine.

Juliet sent an emergency message directly to Constantine without hesitation, and the wait began.

When Atlas returned and told Cosmo and Aveline everything he had done, he wondered how it was possible that they had not forgotten anything.

Cosmo gave an answer that even surprised Chronos himself:

"Even though we value Lady Nyx and bow before her, my daughter and I, as well as Constantine himself, have been blessed by Chronos, the embodiment of time. As you can understand, Aveline and I have received so many blessings that the concept of time has become cyclical, linear, reflecting both the past and part of the future."

Aveline then added, "So even if we die, we have managed to lock away the memories that our souls will always remember. These memories are the ones that contain you, Atlas. When a memory contains you, we have recovered all the memories we have of you, whether from the past or the future."

"That’s very strange. I could swear that even Master Chronos doesn’t remember me," Atlas replied to these words.

"It could be because he is the one who took you back in time and even renewed the world, turning back the time of the universe. Because time itself cannot forget anything. Of course, if he reversed time and expended a great deal of power. After all, you said that Lady Nyx made the request and Lord Chronos performed the spell, didn’t you?"

"It’s possible... Lord Chronos, what are the odds of that?" Atlas asked suddenly. As soon as he said that, a message window opened in front of him:

[Actually, it wouldn’t be wrong to say 100%. We never thought of it that way. After all, even if I were time itself, turning back time to that extent and affecting everything would require enormous power. At that moment, I may have used my own power and borrowed Nyx’s as well.]

After receiving this message from Chronos, Atlas nodded his head up and down and seemed to understand everything.

Meanwhile, as the waiting continued, the first thing Atlas mentioned was that the mountain located in the metal-free region of the Shorekeeper City’s mountains, which pierced through the clouds like the Tholien Mountain, would be given to the Ancient Dragons.

He had even told Cosmo that massive houses would be built on the cliffs of the mountain, from its peak to its centre, and that the ancient dragons would be regarded as divine beings by the ’Church of the Night’ and the ’Time Church,’ allowing them to live as humans if they so desired.

When Nyx and Chronos did not object, Atlas began to plan to keep the two mighty Ancient Dragons in his own home, Shorekeeper City, and within seconds, Cosmo and Aveline had accepted this plan.

"So you want us to be the city’s protectors, is that it?" Cosmo asked, wearing his usual sullen expression.

Atlas nodded his head up and down without pausing for a second, then said, "We’ve built homes for the Seven Sages. If you look closely, you will see that enormous palaces have been built on each of the mountains in the western part of the city, except for the part that opens onto the sea. Six enormous palaces for the six Sages. Palaces as grand as this one, the Shadowfall Palace."

"The reason for this is that each of them volunteered to live here. Cassandra, on the other hand, will be my wife in the future, so this palace is her home. In other words, you will be seen as the sacred beings of the city rather than its protectors," he added to his own words.

Cosmo rolled his eyes after hearing these words and said, "Alright, I accept."

Aveline was surprised. The Ancient Dragon Woman had never seen her father so approving before.

Meanwhile, Cassandra had given the necessary orders, and every vampire who could fly had been assigned to the first unit for the construction.

Everything was in order. The plan was beginning to unfold smoothly, and there was still a deep anticipation for Constantine’s return.

Of course, this wait ended after exactly three days.

When Constantine arrived at the palace, he was greeted by a large group of vampires and directed to the throne room.

After a short period of guidance, Constantine entered the throne room, pushed open the doors, and saw two people standing right behind Atlas.

Aveline began to cry when she saw her only son, Constantine, while Cosmo watched Constantine with a smile on his face, which was unusual for him.

Each of the three hundred ancient dragons in the throne room rejoiced wholeheartedly when they saw Constantine. Naturally, no one had wished for the death of Cosmo’s direct heir and the future leader of the Ancient Dragons.

"My son..." said Aveline, walking forward and embracing Constantine, who was coming towards her.

Constantine, however, was still looking at Cosmo. He couldn’t even bring himself to hug his mother back. It was clear that the effects of the trauma were still affecting him, but at least there was one good thing. Constantine had learned the truth, unlike before.

He had watched everything in Atlas’s memories and learned that Cosmo, his grandfather, did not actually hate him.

He was angry. Of course, he was angry. How could he not be angry at his grandfather, who had caused his mother so much pain?

Still, despite everything, despite all the hardships he had endured before Cordelia saved him, Constantine had managed to reunite with his mother.

Constantine’s arms slowly rose, and after nearly a minute had passed, he managed to embrace his mother.

The tears streaming from Aveline’s eyes were completely soaking the floor of the throne room. To put it bluntly, it was an incredibly strange sight.

Cosmo didn’t move from his spot for even a second, but Atlas had seriously hit his arm once.

As Cosmo tried to figure out what was going on, he could see Atlas’s strange facial expression.

"Go apologise!" Atlas’s expression seemed to scream.

Cosmo moved forward and continued to look at his grandson normally when he reached Constantine.

"Don’t you have anything to say?" Constantine asked with that calm expression on his face.

Cosmo, meanwhile, averted his eyes from Constantine and said with genuine sincerity, "I’m sorry, Constantine. I don’t expect you to forgive me. Even if I had good reasons, I was so blind that I couldn’t see any other way. I just want you to know that I’m sorry."

Constantine shook his head slightly, as if he hadn’t expected those words, and when his mother stopped hugging him, he said, "It will take a long time to forgive, Grandfather."

Cosmo nodded as if he understood, and Constantine glanced at Atlas at that moment.

Atlas shrugged his shoulders and looked at Constantine, smiling and rolling his eyes. Constantine’s face suddenly lit up with a smile, and his eyes seemed to say, "What am I going to do with you, you silly boy?" as he tried to explain himself to Atlas.

At that moment, Cassandra’s words could finally be heard:

"What news from the main front, Constantine?"

As soon as Cassandra asked this question, everyone in the room focused their attention on her.

"To be honest, there’s not much good news..." said Constantine. He looked at Atlas and shook his head from side to side, as if he didn’t want him to hear anything.

"What happened?" asked Atlas in a serious tone.

"I don’t think I’m the one who should be saying this, Atlas... I’m sure you’ll be angry with us," Constantine said in a calm tone of voice.

Atlas already understood from these words that something was seriously wrong.

"Then I’ll come with you and find out everything," Atlas replied.

Constantine nodded his head up and down and said, "Yes, that would be best."
