Chapter 204: Delusion
Chapter 204: Delusion
After waiting for almost ten minutes, everything seemed to be complete. When Thanatos stopped working on the sword, it was covered with a black layer... a colour. There was something that looked like a flower where the hilt was attached to the sword. It resembled a flower with thorns protruding outwards.
The sword had managed to become as thin as paper.
"It’s unstable," Thanatos said, looking at the gods and goddesses around him. It was clear and obvious that he was asking for help from someone.
Still, no help came. Thanatos, of course, accepted this with understanding. After all, entering into a relationship with the essence of another god or goddess could bring about their own demise.
Still, after just a few glances, a man no one had expected appeared from among the crowd of gods and goddesses gathered behind Atlas.
When Thanatos saw the man, he did nothing but say, "I am honoured."
This man was Boreas himself. Known as the Wind of the North and also the god of Ice and Winter, he was one of the most powerful Anemoi who had ever existed, a mature, large-bodied man with a thick beard and hair filled with ice.
He was someone about whom Atlas knew very little, but whom he still had to respect.
After all, there were only four people who represented the north, south, east, and west, and Boreas was perhaps the strongest of them all, or perhaps the second strongest.
"Thank you for allowing me to help, Thanatos!" said Boreas, and immediately after bowing respectfully before Nyx and Erebus, he began to climb the steps towards the throne, where Thanatos stood behind Nyx.
When he reached Thanatos and looked at the sword in his hand, Boreas said, "I can stabilise it. Join me once more, Thanatos!" Without a moment’s hesitation, he boldly touched the sword with his bare hands, even though he knew there was a chance he might perish.
Dark Death and Ice itself began to merge in the sword at that moment. The colour of the sword began to change significantly, and after only a dozen seconds, a blue colour settled on the sword.
Not only that, but a strange vein-like thing formed at the centre of the sword, consisting of black and white colours, and every second, the blue colour began to flicker inside this vein as if it were a heartbeat.
The sight of it alone was enough to make Atlas fall in love with this sword...
After stabilising the sword, Thanatos and Boreas relaxed. Even though Atlas had no trouble holding the sword when it reached him in a matter of seconds, he could still feel the overwhelming, even deadly energy emanating from it.
Of course, since Thanatos was the one who had reworked the sword, feeling a deadly energy was not particularly unusual. The sheer magnitude of Thanatos’ power was revealed by observing this energy. He really was a Chaos-Born.
"Then our work is done," said Thanatos, and before Atlas could thank him, his consciousness faded.
When he fell to the ground, he opened his eyes again in the throne room.
Taking a deep breath, he reached into his inventory and pulled out the sword that Thanatos and Boreas had reworked.
The moment the sword left his inventory, all eyes in the throne room turned to Atlas.
Within seconds, Cordelia had snatched the sword from Atlas’s hand, thrown it aside, and begun to control his hand in a strange way.
"Ummm... What’s going on?" Atlas asked naturally.
"What do you think you’re doing with a weapon covered in black magic?" Cordelia shouted suddenly, perhaps the first time she had ever been angry with Atlas.
Atlas raised an eyebrow as if he knew what to say and then said, "This weapon was given to me by Thanatos. It is the reworked version of my Holy Sword. It is not covered in black magic, but in death energy."
Although Atlas’ words were literally true, neither Cordelia nor any of the remaining Sages naturally believed them. How could they?
After all, neither Cordelia nor anyone else had ever seen death energy with their own eyes before. Only aura masters, who were skilled in battle and had mastered their auras in this way, could do so, and no one, including Cordelia, had ever encountered anyone else besides Atlas who could do this.
As Cordelia looked at Atlas, unsure of anything, she managed to see that the look of bewilderment on his face had not yet faded.
"Are you serious?" Cordelia asked.
"Of course!" Atlas replied.
"I don’t understand... How can you have so much in just a few seconds?" Cordelia asked suddenly.
"Do you think I’m staying in the world to meet with gods and goddesses? They’re calling me to their side, to the sacred realm! Come on, my lady... let me take my sword; I still have three people to meet with," Atlas replied.
Upon hearing this, Cordelia used her magic to bring the sword she had thrown far away back to Atlas, and Atlas finally managed to examine the sword’s properties:
