Chapter 68: The Racetrack

Rosina grumbled as she walked out of her room, fully dressed for the horse race. She waited below the living room for Felissa to finish preparing herself.

Draco disapproved of her killing Dona since she was needed to clear the case.

Felissa came out after a few minutes in haste. She wore an extravagant orange dress that looked tacky like she was going to a ball.

"You’re here," Rosina stated and stared at Felissa’s figure while trying her best not to roast her looks. "You look... orange."

"Thank you, Lady Rosina. You look gorgeous," Felissa stated politely and twirled around as her gown spread like a balloon.

"Let’s go before we’re late for the event," Rosina kindly smiled before walking away. She glanced at Fina, bowing at the back. Somehow, she wasn’t comfortable in her presence.

They rode carriages and traveled toward the city where the event was held in public. It was the perfect time for Rosina to ask several questions and gather the information that she needed.

"Lady Felissa, can I ask you something?" Rosina stated with a smile.

"Sure, what is it?" Felissa tilted her head in confusion as she anticipated what Rosina would ask her.

"You see, my life here is quite boring. Can you share some gossip or any particular story that seems interesting?" Rosina stated and acted like she was bored. Her eyes looked at Felissa, indirectly pressuring her to speak out.

"Okay, let me think of something," Felissa muttered while in deep thought. She was wracking her brain to the gossip she heard back in her pack about the Palace.

"Ah, this was a famous gossip like years ago. I heard this from my parents since when this happened, I wasn’t born yet," Felissa giggled and calmed herself as she mediated her gossiper’s aura.

"Ohh, interesting. What is it?" Rosina asked with a knowing look and leaned forward to hear it clearly.

"Based on what I heard. The King and the Queen were not actual mates. They were forced into marriage because the Queen belonged to the second most powerful pack, and their union would be the greatest of all. Making the royal family the most exquisite lineage," Felissa whispered enthusiastically as she had someone to gossip with.

"Really?" Rosina didn’t expect that the King and Queen were not mates. They were supposed to be the ones that would set an example to the werewolves that marrying your mate was the most important thing.

"That’s what I heard, but there’s more..." Felissa leaned closer and whispered. "I heard the King had found his true mate, a commoner. They had a child, but the King needed to hide his mate from the Queen’s jealousy."

"Where’s his real mate now?" Rosina asked. She was interested in the topic since it was the one she needed to fully understand the hidden issues.

"No one knows. They say she died during childbirth or was hidden far away from the Palace," Felissa whispered with wide eyes before nodding aggressively.

"That means..." Rosina wasn’t able to finish her sentence when Felissa replied.

"That means one of the Princes or Princess is the true heir to the throne," Felissa whispered and giggled. "But they are all just gossips. Who knows, it was made up to create a scandal to the Monarchy."

"True heir... That’s interesting to say," Rosina chuckled with amusement. She never thought she had missed all the drama inside the Palace, but she also had her personal drama.

"It’s been said that Prince Gastone might be the current Crown Prince since he was the son of the Queen, but if the child of the King’s mate appears. The throne would be taken away from Gastone," Felissa put a hand over her lips and slightly patted herself. "Apologize, Lady Rosina. I crossed the line of gossip."

"No, I appreciate this," Rosina giggled and covered her mouth as she smiled.

"Ah, finally. I could have a gossip buddy. I have been keeping all the information I heard for years," Felissa slumped with a pout.

"But why would such gossip arise? Do you have an idea?" Rosina pressed further. She wanted to milk enough gossip she could use in the future for her own gain.

"Hmm, I think the King started to take many concubines when the gossip about his true mate was pregnant with his child. He used them as a cover-up for his mate’s safety. I’m not entirely sure," Felissa grumbled and massaged her head from too many thoughts.

"Interesting. If that was true, I would pity the woman he was mated with," Rosina shrugged and looked outside the window. Many commoners were walking around with happy smiles.

Vendors and stores lined up in the streets to sell their goods to those who visited the racetrack.

"Why?" Felissa asked in confusion. "Isn’t it good that the King was keeping her safe from the Queen’s wrath?"

"Yes, but imagine yourself in her position, Lady Felissa. Your mate is married to another woman he can’t divorce, and he took in several more. What will you feel?" Rosina asked gently and made sure that her words were clear and precise.

Felissa was silent for a while. She fidgeted with her clothes while in deep thought. "My parents told me I should accept and follow my mate’s every word to make him happy. That I should be a better wife and never talk back. Also gave birth until my body reached its limit... Lady Rosina, to answer your question. I-I don’t know."

Rosina’s mouth hung open in disbelief. For her, that question was simple and could be answered by anyone but not Felissa. "If you see the one you love with someone else, don’t you feel pain and hurt emotionally?"

Felissa pursed her lips while trying to imagine the scenario in her mind. "I don’t think my mate will do that if he truly loves me. He won’t find another lady to replace my presence."

"Yes, you are right," Rosina grabbed Felissa’s hand and pressed it firmly. "I wish you all the happiness in the world."

Rosina wanted to tell Felissa about the reality of having a mate, but she stopped and let Felissa fantasize about her ideals since she was still young. Rosina also blamed Felissa’s parents for making her think that way.

’Don’t worry, Felissa. I will teach you slowly, grooming you to a stronger and fierce woman,’ Rosina thought while looking at Felissa’s soft demeanor.

After a few minutes, they arrived at the location, which was already packed with werewolves.

"Woah, the place looks so gorgeous," Felissa commented in awe while looking outside the window.

Rosina paid no attention to her surrounding since she only had one goal in mind. That was to find her target, Lady Dona Siciliano.

The carriage stopped, and the coachman opened the door, helping them get down. The place was packed with nobles from other packs that were invited. It was also used as a place to search for a better candidate for marriage.

The wolves stared in Rosina’s direction as she walked past them and started gossiping while some gushed over her.

"You seem to get their attention, Lady Rosina," Felissa whispered to notify Rosina, but she already knew.

Rosina shrugged it off and searched for their designated seat.

"Ah, darling, you have arrived with a guest," Queen Cinzia stated after she spotted Rosina from the crown.

"Your Majesty, you look gorgeous today," Rosina complimented the Queen’s appearance, which was taken with delight. "May I introduce to you my friend, Lady Felissa Nucci."

"Hmm," Queen Cinzia hummed while looking at Felissa’s attire, and her face showed displeasure.

"Your Majesty," Felissa stated nervously while curtsying.

"Seat here," Cinzia pointed at the seats on her left side before facing the crowd again.

Rosina sat comfortably while looking around, hoping she would see Lady Dona, and began a conversation with her before the event started.

Felissa leaned closer to Rosina and whispered. "Is the third Prince coming here as well?"

Rosina didn’t know if Draco would come or not. She glanced at the right side and saw that Prince Gastone was nowhere to be found but a woman she despised.

Lady Melania was sitting there and fanning her discomforted face from the heat. She didn’t notice Rosina’s presence yet.

"Would you like to bet who will win?" Felissa nudged Rosina’s shoulder and pointed at the group of men with their horses, preparing themselves for the race.

"Hmm," Rosina hummed closely while watching the horse and rider’s compatibility.

Felissa started scribbling on the piece of paper used to write the bets and the amount of money placed on the rider’s head. She handed the form to the collector.

"Lady Rosina, have you chosen a candidate?" Felissa asked and followed Rosina’s gaze.

"Yes, I have," Rosina turned around, and her face was inched closer to Felissa.

"I-I’m sorry," Felissa exclaimed before leaning back. Her cheeks turned red from embarrassment.

Rosina smirked and acted like she didn’t mind while writing down the candidate of her choice, but deep inside, she liked Felissa’s reaction.
