Chapter 540: The Days of Two
After a couple of hours, Lucia finally decided to leave the room and went to the dining room since she was starving. She wanted to stay in her bed for a long time, but the memories she had with Daniel in that room made her want to vomit.
"Tsk, the food better be good," Lucia sighed as she was getting near the dining area. Upon opening the door, she was surprised by what she saw.
Daniel was already sitting there, eating dessert.
’What the f*ck!’ Lucia thought upon seeing Daniel. She expected him to be away at work.
"Oh, you’re finally awake. I was waiting for you," Daniel stated while wiping his mouth.
Lucia was left standing by the door, her face etched with confusion.
"Hah, you’re wondering why I’m here when I left earlier. Actually, I waited for you for a bit since there’s some change of plans regarding our wedding, but before that... Have a seat," Daniel gestured toward the empty chair in front of him.
"Of course," Lucia forced a smile as she sat by the chair.
The servants served Lucia’s food and drinks. However, she hadn’t eaten them yet, as she was more focused on what Daniel was about to say.
"Lucia, our wedding will be held in two days," Daniel informed her with a delightful smile. He was happy that his most-awaited wedding would happen sooner than he expected.
"Two days!?" Lucia exclaimed loudly, standing up in shock as the chair behind her fell to the ground.
"You must be surprised... I hope it’s a happy kind of surprise," Daniel frowned as she studied Lucia’s expression.
"Of...of course! Why won’t I be happy? It’s just that... It’s too fast," Lucia breathed deeply as she tried to calm herself.
"Too fast? Everything is already prepared... even your gown. So there’s nothing to worry about," Daniel smiled, stood up, and walked toward Lucia with lust in his eyes. "I have been waiting to be your husband. I don’t want to prolong this joyful occasion for us."
Lucia forced an awkward smile as she nodded. "If that’s what you wish," she replied.
The servant fixed Lucia’s chair and let her sit on it again.
Daniel leaned down and cupped Lucia’s chin, making her face him. "You’re really beautiful, Lucia. Now, I finally saw what you’re hiding inside that piece of fabric," he continued, and his gaze slowly lowered to her chest.
Lucia became uncomfortable and subtly moved her body away. She still wanted to appear like an innocent and submissive girl to avoid suspicions.
Daniel smirked as he stood straight. "I’ll be gone for a while. So be a good girl while I’m gone. I’ll see you at the wedding venue," he stated firmly before fixing his tie and walking away.
"Oh god," Lucia felt weak as the wedding she tried her best to postpone was already happening. She knew it was going to happen anyway, and the risk of it, but the reality was still hard to swallow.
"My lady," Base called as he saw Lucia staring into space. "Your soup will be cold if you don’t eat it fast," he whispered.
Lucia flinched, as she had been consumed with thoughts. "Ah, sorry about that," she smiled and slowly scooped a spoonful and sipped it. She took her time eating her meal while her mind was creating multiple plans for her next move.
After a few minutes, Lucia was finally done and decided to stay in her room to avoid confrontations from the staff in the mansion, as it only drained her energy further, especially since she was feeling quite stressed from Daniel’s surprise earlier.
"I should visit that basement again later. I need to gather more evidence," Lucia whispered to herself as she turned to the other side.
Lucia waited until the sun went down and the moon shone brightly from above. She had her dinner in her room to show that she wasn’t leaving that place yet.
Hours go by, and it felt like an eternity to Lucia.
"Finally, it’s their sleeping time," Lucia muttered as she looked at the clock. It stuck by ten in the evening. It was the end of the servants’ shift, but some were still working, they were only a few.
Lucia put on a black outfit that had pants and a long shirt. She also placed a scarf on her head to prevent anyone from seeing her face in case someone was still awake.
"I need to take any kind of item inside as proof," Lucia whispered to herself as she slowly walked toward the hallway. It took a while to finally reach the kitchen, but she did anyway.
The kitchen was dark and empty, which made Lucia sigh in relief. She didn’t waste any seconds and headed straight to the area where the secret door lies. She pushed it open to reveal the room.
However, Lucia could no longer smell that metallic scent emitting from the room. It was rather fragrant, as if it had been newly cleaned.
"What the heck? " Lucia cursed under her breath.
The finding made Lucia’s hair on her arms stand up. She thought something wasn’t right, and she felt immediate danger that told her to get away from that place as soon as possible.
Lucia followed her gut feeling and was about to leave when a candle lit before her, lighting the area.
"Base! " Lucia exclaimed in surprise upon seeing the butler holding a candle and a bag on the other side.
"Lady Lucia, you should be in bed around these hours," Base stated seriously as he stared at Lucia’s face intently.
Lucia’s chest was breathing deeply in both nervousness and fear of what would happen to her since she was caught in the act.
"I was supposed to, but I got thirsty," Lucia lied, hoping Base would buy it.
Base remained silent as he stared at Lucia’s face. After a few seconds, he handed her the bag. "This is your wedding dress. You should try it on to see if it fits you perfectly," he stated before turning around to leave, but before he disappeared, he said again. "There’s no water in that place, Lady. Rather, it contains water with a tainted red."
