Chapter 522: The Portraits on The Wall
Vanda’s playful demeanor faltered slightly, her smile fading. "Scheming? Oh, Rosina, always so quick to assume the worst of me," she stated, shaking her head in disapproval.
Rosina wasn’t faltered by Vanda’s words. They had known each other for a long time, so she knew Vanda had other motives. "Don’t f^ck with me," she replied, rolling her eyes.
"Can’t a friend check in without being accused of sinister motives?" Vanda gasped, pouting.
Rosina stepped closer, her tone low and biting. "You’ve never been one for harmless visits, Vanda. Every time you show up, chaos follows. I need to know— what do you want from Gastone?"
Upon hearing Rosina’s words, Vanda couldn’t help but laugh. "Oh my gosh! Hahaha! Are you hearing what you’ve said, dear Rosina? Chaos doesn’t follow me..." she stated in between laughs.
"Vanda..." Rosina spoke warningly, referring to Vanda not to cross the line.
"We all know that chaos falls in your hands, Rosina. We don’t need to think deeply about it," Vanda sighed. She went to the nearby chair and sat, eyeing the cookies on the table.
"You’re changing the topic," Rosina replied, glaring at Vanda. She decided to ignore Vanda’s words since they were the truth.
Vanda held Rosina’s gaze for a long moment, her playful mask slipping entirely. "You’re right," she said softly, her voice taking on a serious edge. "I’m just curious about his story. After all, it’s been peaceful in the realm."
"And peace should remain. Don’t start something," Rosina warned. She didn’t want another war to happen in the Pack.
"Oh dear, Rosina. You are taking this so lightly," Vanda chuckled, shaking her head in amusement. She had so many words to say but chose to remain silent and watch what would happen soon.
Rosina blinked, her stern expression replaced by confusion. "What are you talking about?"
Vanda stood up, walked toward Rosina, and leaned in, her voice dropping into a conspiratorial whisper. "You shouldn’t underestimate Gastone’s situation, dear."
"Vanda, tell me directly!" Rosina’s voice rose as she felt the weight of Vanda’s words.
However, Vanda remains indifferent. "Gastone’s role in the grand design is far more significant than either of us have let on. You’re being kept in the dark, shielding you from more truths than lies. But that truth is catching up, Rosina. Whether you like it or not."
Rosina’s lips parted as if to argue, but no words came. She stared at Vanda, searching for deceit in her expression, but found only grim resolve.
"What do you know?" Rosina asked, her voice a whisper. She could feel goosebumps appearing on her body.
Vanda cupped Rosina’s cheeks, pulling her head closer. "The time will come that you’ll make another decision that breaks your heart. You have been emotionally vulnerable right now. So be ready," she whispered, kissing Rosina’s forehead.
At the same time, Vanda passed through Rosina’s body like steam and disappeared into the air.
"VANDA!" Rosina shouted, but she was now alone in the garden. Her knees weakened and gave up as she slid to the ground.
"Oh goddess, what is happening?" Rosina whispered nervously. She thought everything was alright in the Werewolf realm, but she was wrong.
However, Rosina didn’t know where to start. She sat in the garden with a whirlwind of questions in her mind.
Vanda’s cryptic words weighed heavily, and the kiss on Rosina’s forehead left an unsettling warmth within her.
"I need to talk to Draco," Rosina whispered hastily. She wanted to hear Draco’s opinion since it involved Gastone.
Rosina scrambled to her feet and ran toward Draco’s office to talk to him.
On the other side, Gastone was still in the Palace. He was about to leave but got mesmerized by the new portraits hanging on the walls, ones he hadn’t seen.
"I never knew we have this?" Gastone muttered to himself, strolling as he gazed at the portraits on the wall.
"Ah! There you are!" a voice spoke from behind.
Gastone turned to the side and saw Draco walking quickly towards him with a smile on his face.
"I heard from Fina you visited my wife," Draco said with a curious smile. He stopped before Gastone and frowned upon seeing the hood covering most of his face.
"Your Majesty— Draco," Gastone greeted softly. He still wasn’t used to calling Draco by his name upon becoming the realm’s King.
"Hahaha! You’re so funny! I’m glad you finally decided to amble around here," Draco stated loudly, patting Gastone’s back.
"We just met earlier..." Gastone had the urge to roll his eyes but looked down instead.
"Ah, that doesn’t count. Anyways, is there some gossip you two talked about?" Draco asked suspiciously. He was referring to Gastone and Rosina’s talk.
"About that. I just asked your wife about the woman named Vanda, but everything is fine now. No need to worry," Gastone replied defensively. He didn’t want Draco to misunderstand him.
"I see..." Draco’s brow furrowed. He knew Vanda but had completely forgotten anything about her. "Anyways, I saw you’re staring at these portraits," he continued, changing the subject.
"Yes, I didn’t see them before. Are these old or newly painted?" Gastone asked in curiosity.
"Hmm, I found them in a hidden, locked room deep within the Palace. I’m also surprised they exist!" Draco exclaimed, looking at the portraits as well.
"Maybe they’re too old to be displayed," Gastone said, thinking it might be one of the reasons it was kept hidden.
However, Draco’s smile faltered. "I wish that’s the exact reason," he whispered with a sigh.
Gastone noticed Draco’s expression change and wanted to know why. "Is there something wrong? You can tell me if it’s not something significant," he stated softly.
"Well, you see...." Draco paused, thinking if it was fine for Gastone to know. "Rocco, the previous King... hid these portraits because the one who made them... was my mother," he revealed.
It was hard for Draco to say those words, knowing Rocco kept them a secret from him, too, after asking multiple times if there was something left behind by his mother when he was still a child.
