Chapter 508: The Remarkable
Lucia stood before her bed, her fingers lightly brushing the fabrics of the two dresses.
On one side lay a vibrant crimson gown with intricate gold embroidery that shimmered in the candlelight. It was the kind of dress that demanded attention, the kind that would make every head turn as Lucia entered the room.
On the other side was a soft lavender dress, simple yet elegant, with delicate lace trimming. It was understated, a choice that would allow Lucia to blend into the background, observing rather than being observed.
"Hmm, should I be the center of attention or a wallflower," Lucia whispered, her brow furrowed in thought. She paced back and forth, weighing her options.
"If I wore the crimson dress, I need to prepare to interact with the other guests. I’m sure most of them are involved in the illegal business industry!" Lucia stated aggressively. She wanted to know who the people involved were so that she could punish them all together.
However, Lucia was debating on the other choice. "This lavender dress. It can help me observe them and their conversations. Maybe I could get something out of it."
Lucia stared at her two choices and couldn’t help but become frustrated. "Ah! This is annoying!" she exclaimed, aggressively rubbing her scalp.
"Do I really want to be the center of attention tonight?" Lucia mused. "Or is it better to watch and listen, to learn what I can from the sidelines?"
Lucia’s thoughts drifted to the guest list. Who would she meet? What secrets might be revealed? And how could she best position herself to take advantage of what she learned?
"Will Gastone be there?" Lucia murmured unconsciously as Gastone’s face appeared in her mind, followed by how he confessed his feelings to her.
"AH! Stop it!" Lucia screamed while slapping her cheeks to prevent another memory from resurfacing. "Of course, he will be there! He’s a freaking customer!"
However, that made Lucia mindful of how she would look, especially in Gastone’s eyes.
"Ugh! Whatever!" Lucia sighed and turned to her reflection in the mirror. "I suppose it depends on what I want to achieve tonight," she said softly.
With a resolute nod, Lucia made her choice and reached for one of the dresses.

Lucia stepped out of the car that Missus Belo sent for her. "Thank you, Base," she stated, looking at the Nutri’s butler.
"Have fun, Miss Lucia," Base replied and drove away to park the car.
Lucia inhaled deeply as she prepared herself. She was now standing in front of Nutri’s Mansion, decorated extravagantly.
"What a waste of money," Lucia whispered, looking around the ornaments.
There were a few people outside since the party had started an hour before, and Lucia was late due to her indecisiveness on what to wear.
Upon entering the room, Lucia stood at the entrance, her eyes scanning the grand ballroom, which glittered under the light of the massive chandelier. Food and drinks were stationed at the side.
The Nutri Mansion was as lavish as Lucia had expected, every corner filled with reminders of wealth and excess. The guests mingled in elegant attire, their laughter and conversations blending into a soft tune of the music being played.
"What kind of party is this?" Lucia thought as she walked down the stairs. She felt out of place since she only wore a simple gown and only a necklace as her accessory, the one that Gastone had given to her that hid her scent.
Lucia’s eyes caught sight of Missus Belo, standing near the dance floor, talking to a group of well-dressed women. She felt a pang of anxiety but pushed it aside and walked toward her.
"Missus Belo," Lucia greeted with a soft smile.
"Lucia, darling!" Missus Belo’s voice rang out as she noticed her, waving her over with a bright smile.
Lucia took a deep breath and walked forward, trying to project confidence. "Missus Belo, thank you for inviting me," she said, forcing a smile.
"Nonsense, dear, it’s my pleasure," Missus Belo replied warmly, taking Lucia’s hand and leading her towards the group of women. "Ladies, this is Lucia, the owner of my favorite flowershop."
The women greeted her politely, their eyes assessing her with the subtle sharpness that only the wealthy could master. Lucia felt their scrutiny and wondered if they could see through her facade.
"I’m so glad you could make it," Missus Belo continued, her voice smooth. "I know it must have been a bit overwhelming to decide on what to wear. But you look lovely."
Lucia’s eye twitched at Missus Belo’s words. "Thank you," she replied, the compliment feeling more like an observation.
Lucia knew the dress she wore was nowhere near the calibre of the others in the room, but she had done her best.
"Can I ask something, Missus?" Lucia leaned toward Missus Belo’s ear to prevent others from eavesdropping.
"Hmm?" Missus Belo hummed.
"What occasion are you celebrating for this party?" Lucia asked, curious.
"Ah... about that—" Missus Belo was about to reply, but a voice took their attention away.
The announcer stood at the edge of the dance floor, his voice booming over the chatter of the guests. "Ladies and gentlemen, if I may have your attention, please!" he called out, drawing all eyes towards him.
The music softened, and a hush fell over the room as the guests turned to listen.
Missus Belo paused, her eyes flickering with a mixture of anticipation and something else— something Lucia couldn’t quite place. "We’ll continue our conversation later, dear," Missus Belo whispered to Lucia, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
The announcer continued, his voice filled with excitement. "Tonight, we are here to celebrate a special occasion of a man who always achieved something remarkable in the business world."
Lucia raised an eyebrow. She had a feeling he was only talking about Daniel.
"As many of you know," the announcer went on, "he has faced significant challenges in life, yet has risen above them with determination and grace. It is my great pleasure to present this evening’s toast to none other than Master Daniel Nutri! Happy Birthday!"
