Chapter 494: The Meat to Eat
The car parked outside a large, old-looking building. On the outside, it looked like a common warehouse, but the stench was unbearable, especially on Gastone’s sensitive nose.
"We’re here," Daniel stated as he turned off the car. He opened the door and immediately ran to Gastone’s side, who already had one foot on the ground.
"There’s no need," Gastone held his arms up to stop Daniel from treating him like a Princess.
"Haha, I only do the best for my buddies," Daniel explained with a chuckle. However, he was still the one who closed the door behind him.
Gastone looked at the building with a deep sigh, preparing himself for what he would witness.
"Don’t be scared. This is business and as a good friend of yours, I won’t let you see the gruesome part. Just the fine products," Daniel explained as he gestured for Gastone to follow him.
The door opened and a man wearing a plastic suit came out. His clothes were filled with blood splattered on the bottom.
"Boss, you’re here!" the man greeted while removing his mask.
"Cartel, how’s the processing going?" Daniel waved with a smile and approached the man. "You should clean up. We have a valued guest," he added and glanced at Gastone.
"Ah, sorry boss! I’ll clean right away!" Cartel shyly looked at his attire and hurriedly went back inside the building.
Daniel opened his mouth to stop Cartel since he was only teasing him. "Oh, well," he shrugged and opened the door, revealing a footprints of blood.
Gastone was hit by the strong metallic smell that hurt his nostrils. He covered his nose with one hand and showed a distaste for their situation.
Daniel glanced at Gastone and became worried that it would affect his decision on the proposal. "We should go to my office first. This area is the workstation and it might be too much for you... for now," he stated with an awkward laugh.
Gastone nodded and followed Daniel to the second floor, which was surprisingly clean and neat.
"Do you want some tea?" Daniel asked while preparing some mugs, but Gastone shook his head.
"No, I don’t need anything," Gastone replied as he sat down on the sofa. He didn’t feel the necessity to fill his stomach with anything from the warehouse.
Daniel nodded and sat beside Gastone. The heat was seeping through the window and reflected inside.
Gastone’s sweat rolled down his neck and awkwardly glanced at Daniel, who had been staring at him for the past two minutes. "Ahem, I thought you wanted to show me the products," he stated, bursting the silence between them.
"Haha, I forgot about that. I’m just so mesmerized by your hair, especially when the sunlight hits them. It looks like pure gold strings," Daniel whispered in awe. His eyes twinkled and his hands unconsciously reached out to touch Gastone’s hair, but was stopped.
"What are you doing?" Gastone asked. His voice rumbled on his chest while trying to suppress the growl from coming out of his mouth. This created a deep, threatening tone of his voice.
"Ah!" Daniel flinched with fear in his eyes for the last second before smiling. "My bad, haha."
Daniel stood up and fixed his collar, but the worry was visible on his face. "W-we should see the products," he continued before turning around.
Gastone nodded and silently followed behind. He towered over Daniel and could see the top of his head, which had two twirls on it.
They walked in the hallway toward another room on the ground floor. It had separate stairs from the second floor to exclusively go into that area.
The place was dark and humid, but the floor was cold. There was a huge door up front with a heavy metal lock.
"So much security on these so-called Products," Gastone commented after seeing two guards outside.
Daniel chuckled. "You will be surprised at how cunning they are sometimes. Several of them already escaped from here, but no one was successful enough to live," he stated menacingly.
A creepy smile appeared on Daniel’s lips as he opened the locks one by one. It was his new side that barely anyone could see.
Gastone was horrified, not because he became afraid, but the thought of Lucia being with a man like Daniel, who showed no remorse for a human life.
The door opened and revealed rows and columns of cells containing small children and teens.
"Behold! Our money!" Daniel screamed with pride. His grin almost reached his ears as he showed his ’Products’ to Gastone.
Gastone stepped beside Daniel and stared at what lay before him. "There’s so many of them," he muttered. He only expected a few children, but there were more than twenty kids inside.
"Yeah, the producer has more ugly kids than high-valued ones," Daniel sighed in disappointment. He walked in the hallway and the children immediately cower in fear of their lives.
Sobs and silent murmurs were heard from the room, echoing on the walls.
Gastone could feel the aura of frustration, fear, and sadness coming out from the children. "Don’t you feel sorry for them?" he asked flatly.
Daniel sighed. "I was... but my father told me humans are only intelligent animals and should be treated as one. On that day, my perspective changed. That’s why I don’t feel sorry for them anymore," he explained and looked at Gastone. "Do you feel sorry to chickens when you eat them?"
Gastone raised an eyebrow at Daniel’s logic. He didn’t care about the lives he took and used before, as long as he could get what he wanted and gain something. Hence, he understood Daniel’s perspective, but he never ate a fellow Werewolf throughout his life.
Gastone’s silence urged Daniel to continue his talks. "Chickens has a family too, you know. Even pigs and cows. So it’s nothing different to humans."
Gastone smiled with a chuckle. He walked forward to one of the cells containing kids around five and ten years old. They cower back against the wall, hoping it would defend them.
"That means it’s fine to eat human meat, is basically what you’re saying," Gastone said flatly. His gaze remained on the trembling children.
Daniel nodded. "It’s the greatest livestock that won’t ever be extinct," he replied.
Gastone smiled sarcastically and faced Daniel. His eyes bore into him as if he were looking into Daniel’s soul. He stepped forward to close their distance without breaking the eye contact.
"What are you doing?" Daniel frowned at the sudden change in Gastone’s demeanor.
Gastone held Daniel’s chin and tilted it up. "Then I guess, it doesn’t matter if I eat you too."
