Chapter 489: The Peace Over Revenge

Lucia smiled happily while looking at Gastone cooking in the kitchen, making breakfast for the both of them. She felt shy after the deed but was thankful Gastone didn’t react negatively.

"Hmm," Lucia hummed while licking her lips. She recalled how it tasted and the warmth it gave to her throat. However, Gastone’s size was too big for her petite frame, which made her throat and jaw ache.

"You should take a medicine after eating," Gastone stated while putting the plates on the table. He noticed the slight winched Lucia reacted every time she tried to speak.

"O-okay," Lucia nodded awkwardly. She lowered her head as Gastone put an egg, bacon, and cheese bread on her plate.

Gastone smiled softly. "That’s good. Let’s eat before I take you home," he said, drinking his tea.

Lucia froze. Her smile slowly dropped into a thin line as she was thrown back into the real world, where her problems awaited her.

"Yeah, you’re right," Lucia replied awkwardly. She put on a fake smile, but Gastone could see right through her.

"If you need any help at all. I’ll be here," Gastone replied while eating. He could sense Lucia’s discomfort, and though he wanted to pry, he knew better than to push her. He continued to eat his breakfast, occasionally stealing glances at her, hoping she would open up when she was ready.

"T-thank you," Lucia smiled as she picked up her fork and ate. Her day was ruined just after a good pleasure.

As they finished eating, Gastone cleared the table and began washing the dishes. Lucia sat on the sofa, lost in her thoughts. She appreciated Gastone’s offer of help, but she wasn’t sure she could burden him with her problems.

"Gastone..." Lucia muttered lowly. She stared at his back as he put the plates on the rack.

"Hmm?" Gastone hummed, acknowledging her presence.

Lucia shifted in place. "Do you believe in revenge?" she asked, wanting to know Gastone’s side.

"Revenge, haha. That word is a dangerous one," Gastone chuckled. Before, he had felt that feeling but chose to live his life to do what he wanted rather than spend his energy when he knew he couldn’t take the crown back from Draco’s head.

"What do you mean?" Lucia asked curiously.

Gastone turned off the faucet and dried his hands before facing Lucia. He leaned against the kitchen counter, contemplating his response.

"Revenge is a powerful emotion," Gastone began, his tone serious. "It’s natural to feel anger or resentment towards those who have wronged us. But seeking revenge often leads to more pain and suffering, not just for the one we’re seeking revenge against, but for ourselves as well."

Lucia listened intently, absorbing Gastone’s words. "So you don’t believe in getting back at those who have hurt you?" she asked, searching his face for any hint of uncertainty.

Gastone shook his head. "I believe in justice, but not revenge. Justice seeks to right wrongs and restore balance, while revenge is fueled by anger and a desire for retribution. It’s a never-ending cycle that only breeds more hatred and misery."

Lucia nodded slowly, understanding his perspective. "But what if seeking revenge is the only way to find closure?" she pressed, her voice barely above a whisper.

Gastone sighed, knowing the complexity of the human heart. "Closure is important, Lucia, but revenge isn’t the only path to it. Sometimes, forgiveness and letting go can bring more peace than vengeance ever could."

Lucia lowered her head, gritting her teeth. "Forgiveness... that can’t easily be done if the other party is still causing destruction on the path they walk on, causing more lives at stake."

Gastone could see the pain in Lucia’s eyes, the turmoil she was wrestling with. He walked over to her and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"I understand, Lucia," he said softly. "It’s not easy to forgive someone who continues to hurt others. But holding onto anger and seeking revenge will only consume you. Sometimes, the most powerful act of forgiveness is for yourself, to free yourself from the burden of hatred and resentment."

Lucia fisted her hands together. She tried her best to free herself from the past but couldn’t let it go so easily. She wanted to end it all at once but understood where Gastone was coming from.

"I see," Lucia replied. She held her mouth so bad from blurting out what she had known about the connection between the Turizer Farm, Cassa orphanage, and the Bisco Company. She didn’t want Gastone to think of her as a lunatic who held a grudge for years.

Gastone sensed Lucia’s inner struggle, the weight of her unspoken words heavy in the air. He could see that there was more she wanted to say, more she needed to share. But he also understood that she wasn’t ready yet and needed time to process her thoughts and feelings.

"It’s okay, Lucia," Gastone said gently, giving her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "However, sometimes peace and forgiveness won’t bring us a good result that will satisfy our crying soul."

"Huh? What do you mean?" Lucia asked in surprise at how Gastone’s voice changed from soft to rough.

"Haha! If you think it’s too hard to forgive and forget, it means that they’ve done so much damage, and letting them roam free will only endanger other lives..." Gastone leaned closer; his eyes twinkled with evilness. "... I say, death is the only answer to that."

Lucia was taken aback. She snapped her head to Gastone with her eyes widening in shock. "D-death," she whispered.

"Yes, death. Occasionally, eliminating a pest can benefit the environment, so why hesitate if it leads to positive results, correct?" Gastone’s innocent smile remained as he withdrew and fixed his gaze on Lucia.

"Woah, you’re scary," Lucia muttered in disbelief. Her heart pounded in her chest as she stared at Gastone, feeling a chill run down her spine. His words sent shivers through her, and she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
