Chapter 484: The Logos

Lucia looked at the menu while glancing over at Joseph. "The prices here are too expensive for you," she stated matter-of-factly, not mincing her words.

"Are you concerned about my finances?" Joseph chuckled, dismissing Lucia’s comment as he casually set aside the menu. "Don’t worry, my Dear. I can handle it."

"No, I can take care of myself," Lucia replied nonchalantly, her demeanor unfazed. She had prepared money in her bag, ready to cover her expenses if needed.

Joseph frowned upon hearing Lucia’s response. His ego was struck after Lucia rejected his offer, which only made him eager to show her he had money.

"Waiter," Joseph raised his hand to call for a waiter waiting for their signal.

There were only a few people inside, and it wasn’t crowded.

"May I take your orders, Sir, Ma’am?" the waiter inquired, observing Joseph and casting a brief glance at Lucia, who appeared somewhat displeased.

"I’ll have your most expensive steak," Joseph declared proudly, aiming to impress Lucia.

"I’ll just have a salad," Lucia calmly stated, preferring a lighter meal.

Joseph shook his head in disapproval. "A salad? No, give her the same order as mine," he instructed the waiter, dismissing Lucia’s choice.

"Alright, I will be right back immediately," the waiter stated before leaving in a hurry.

Lucia sighed, baffled by Joseph’s insistence. "You don’t have to do that."

"I invited you for dinner, so I want you to have the best," Joseph explained with a smug grin, feeling victorious.

Lucia didn’t reply and wondered where Joseph took the funds. She knew their financial situation, and he wasn’t earning that well, even if he would hunt all the animals in the entire forest.

As they awaited their food, Joseph attempted to engage in conversation. "So, how have you been?"

"Let’s cut the chase. I came here for the information you promised. Tell me," Lucia crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, which made Joseph laugh.

"Why rush? Dinner hasn’t even arrived yet," Joseph countered playfully, enjoying the control he seemed to have over the situation.

Lucia rolled her eyes, recognizing that patience might be the key to extracting the information she sought from Joseph.

"Well, what’s your reply?" Joseph insisted.

"I’m doing just fine," Lucia replied casually, showing little interest in continuing the conversation.

Joseph observed Lucia silently for a moment. "Do you despise me that much?"

Lucia was taken aback by Joseph’s question. She opened her mouth to reply, but no words came out. A question appeared on her mind if she genuinely hated Joseph.

"We have a history," Joseph persisted, attempting to reach for Lucia’s hand across the table.

"And I paid for it," Lucia retorted, withdrawing her hand and referencing the gold coin she had given as payment during her stay at Joseph’s parents’ house.

"Haha, funny," Joseph chuckled, but it was evident that he was pissed.

Lucia was about to reply when the waiter arrived with their food, presenting the extravagant dish to them both, and signaling the start of their dinner.

"Here’s our most expensive, rare meat. I hope you two enjoy the night," the waiter stated and bowed slightly before going to another customer.

Joseph gazed at the dish before him with satisfaction, revealing in the ostentatious display. His grin widened, and he anticipated Lucia’s reaction to the lavish meal he had ordered.

"Let’s dig in," Joseph stated, gesturing for Lucia to take a bite.

Lucia, however, regarded her plate with a sense of reservation. She remembered the chopped corpses in Daniel’s house, and it made her want to vomit.

"This is quite... extravagant," Lucia remarked in a strained tone, swallowing hard to suppress her discomfort.

Seemingly proud of his choice, Joseph grinned widely as he prepared to indulge in the luxurious meal. "I wanted this to be special for you," he said, trying to mask his irritation from their earlier conversation.

"Hmm," Lucia murmured, her hand trembling slightly as she delicately sliced a small piece of the meat. Despite her inner turmoil, she tried to maintain composure, and masked her unease.

’It’s just a regular meat. It should be fine,’ Lucia reassured herself silently, taking a composed bite. The smoky flavor tantalized her taste buds, a flavor she appreciated, which helped to ease her nerves momentarily.

"Enjoying the taste?" Joseph inquired, noticing Lucia’s relieved expression after the first bite.

"Yes," Lucia responded honestly, unable to deny the satisfaction of a well-prepared meal.

"Great. Let’s finish up, and then I’ll share the information I’ve found," Joseph suggested with a grin, enjoying the meal himself.

Their table lapsed into silence, each of them focused on their dinner. The quiet persisted until Joseph took his final bite.

"I’m done," Lucia stated while wiping her lips from the sauce. She hadn’t been hungry, so she hadn’t eaten everything on her plate.

"Alright," Joseph sighed, retrieving a paper from his pocket and sliding it across the table to Lucia with an intense gaze. "Don’t react," he cautioned firmly.

Lucia’s brow furrowed as she accepted the paper and unfolded it. The contents sent a jolt through her— a series of pictures featuring a woman she recognized and several children from the Orphanage.

Two cars were depicted, one bearing the Bisco Company BG logo and the other sporting a Star logo.

"That’s the Nutri’s family logo," Joseph grinned widely as he sipped his red wine.

Lucia paid Joseph no attention as she flipped to the next photo. It showed the children being separated; the more attractive ones were directed into the Bisco Company’s car, while those perceived as less attractive were ushered into the Nutri’s vehicle.

"How did you get these?" Lucia asked, her breath hitching. She was aware of the two companies’ involvement, but the evidence Joseph presented was weighty.

Joseph shrugged and took out his wallet, which was fully packed with paper money.

The waiter returned and put the bill toward Joseph’s side with a bright smile. He could sense a massive tip from him.

"Joseph... answer me," Lucia demanded, her voice trembling.

Joseph settled the bill, then turned his attention back to Lucia. "Do you know where we are, Lucia?"

Confusion clouded Lucia’s face. "What do you mean?" she replied, her nervousness mounting.

"This is the Nutri’s family restaurant," Joseph revealed with a sinister chuckle, relishing Lucia’s growing unease as she absorbed the weight of the information he had just disclosed.
