Chapter 479: The Milk’s Dignity
Gastone nodded, reluctantly retracting his hand. "Alright. I’ll give you space. But don’t shut me out completely."
With that, Gastone turned and walked away, leaving Lucia standing there, torn between the emotions that Gastone’s unexpected appearance had stirred within her.
"I-I’m not shutting you down," Lucia muttered, her eyes swelling with tears. She had a yearning inside to rush and begged Gastone to stay, but she fought that feeling back.
Lucia took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart. ’Focus, Lucia. Focus on the plan, on Daniel,’ she reminded herself silently, determined to redirect her thoughts and emotions toward her plans for the day.
Lucia wiped away the tears threatening to spill over and forced herself to concentrate on her tasks. She resumed arranging the vibrant flowers, trying to lose herself in their beauty and the calming scent that filled the air.
"This is for the best," Lucia forced herself to grin, convincing herself it was the only option.
Lucia’s mind kept drifting back to Gastone’s unpredictable visit as she worked. She couldn’t shake off the ache in her heart or the whirlwind of emotions his presence provoked within her.
"Focus," she repeated like a mantra, but her thoughts kept returning to Gastone and their shared history.
But despite Lucia’s determination, her mind kept returning to the encounter with Gastone. She battled against the longing to seek him out, talk, and unravel the complexities between them, but she knew she needed to stay attentive.
As the day progressed, Lucia maintained a façade of composure while her heart was in turmoil. She assisted customers, managed the shop’s inventory, and tried to bury her feelings deep within, at least for the time being.
But even though Lucia immersed herself in her work, the unresolved emotions lingered, leaving Lucia grappling with an inner conflict that seemed impossible to ignore.
"Ah! I can’t take this anymore! I need a stronger distraction!" Lucia screamed while gripping her hair. She had already closed the store as the night settled in.
Lucia glared and decided to stroll outside to breathe some fresh air. She didn’t bother changing her attire as she wanted to get over it faster.
The streets were dark and were illuminated by the lamps nearby.
"Ah! The fresh air isn’t helping at all!" Lucia whined and wanted to cause a riot, blaming Gastone for meeting her.
"I should buy dinner instead," Lucia whispered to herself.
As Lucia walked by, she experienced discomfort in her chest, but she shrugged it off, thinking it was caused by overthinking and stress.
Lucia’s chest became heavier, and it was hard for her to breathe, but she pushed herself to arrive at her destination while ignoring her blurred vision.
"W-what’s happening?" Lucia muttered, and the next thing she knew, her body was falling. Her eyes widened as she was about to kiss the concrete.
A hand wrapped Lucia’s waist and pulled her up before she landed.
"What are you doing?" Gastone asked with a frown. He tilted Lucia’s head and saw her sweating terribly, her skin extremely pale.
"Don’t tell me..." Gastone whispered as he got a hint of what was going on. He didn’t hesitate to carry Lucia and hurriedly traced back to the flower shop she owned.
Lucia’s consciousness was still intact, but she had no strength to stop Gastone from taking her keys and opening her shop.
"Don’t hate me for barging in," Gastone said softly as he carefully carried Lucia inside her flower shop. He laid her down on a nearby couch, worry etched on his face.
Lucia tried to speak, but her voice came out weak and barely audible. "I’m... fine," she managed to say, her breaths coming in short gasps.
Gastone shook his head, his dread evident. "No, you’re not fine. You’re burning up," he remarked, feeling the heat radiating from her feverish body.
Gastone quickly rummaged through the shop, searching for a first aid kit or anything that could help. Finding a damp cloth, he gently dabbed Lucia’s forehead to alleviate some of the heat.
"Stay still," Gastone instructed softly, his concern overriding any awkwardness between them.
Lucia grabbed Gastone’s hand softly. Her eyes lingered on his lips, lowering down his crotch.
"I know, Lucia," Gastone replied with a deep sigh. He hesitated to give his milk to her, knowing she had a thing with Daniel. That made him torn between his concern for Lucia and respecting her wishes.
Gastone sat beside her, placing a hand on her forehead and rechecking her temperature. Nervousness etched his face as he remained by her side while thinking deeply.
"P-please..." Lucia whispered. Her voice was barely audible. She knew Gastone had already gotten a hint of what she wanted to convey but saw the uncertainty in his eyes.
"Lucia... I’ll be crossing the line... If I give you my milk... Daniel..." Gastone tried to explain his worries, hoping Lucia would understand if he wouldn’t give her any.
Lucia frowned. She drifted in and out of consciousness, but she didn’t want to die yet.
At that moment, the thoughts about Lucia’s plans and goals vanished. All she could think about was Gastone and only him.
Lucia’s body moved based on how she felt. She grabbed Gastone’s neck, pulled herself up, and softly placed a kiss on his lips.
"L-Lucia..." Gastone’s eyes widened. His wolf howled at the feeling of their mate’s affection.
"Please... give me..." Lucia muttered before finally becoming unconscious. She fell into Gastone’s chest as he cradled her like a child.
Gastone watched Lucia’s pained expression. He stayed vigilant, his worry growing with each passing moment.
"To save you, I’ll do it," Gastone said while tucking Lucia’s hair behind her ears. He smiled before placing her comfortably back on the sofa. He removed his coat and put it over her.
Gastone was determined to ensure Lucia received the care she needed until she recovered, setting aside any unresolved feelings between them for the sake of her well-being and to keep her alive.
