Chapter 474: The Man in the Shadow

Lucia’s hand slowly went behind her back, where a small knife was hidden.

"Come out. I know you’re looking for me," Lucia stated sternly. Even though her shop was in the market’s public place, it was mostly deserted since many shops were already closed and fewer people were walking there.

The figure in the darkness moved and stepped forward. His face was shown under the moonlight.

"Joseph, what are you doing here?" Lucia asked and sighed in relief. She thought it was one of her enemies.

"I came by to apologize, but you seem busy," Joseph shrugged and placed both hands in his pocket while looking away.

"Ah, I’m going to rest now. You should go home as well since it’s already dark," Lucia replied, scrambling for her keys, but she didn’t open the door yet.

"Is that Daniel Nutri?" Joseph asked and stepped closer to Lucia. He had a slight smile even though he was pissed.

"Yes," Lucia replied honestly. She frowned and wondered why Joseph was acting strange, especially if it was about Daniel.

"You really bagged him that fast. Well, he sure has good taste," Joseph stated nonchalantly and stared at Lucia’s body from top to bottom, which made her uncomfortable.

"He asked me for a dinner. Who am I to say no?" Lucia replied. She started to get pissed at how Joseph acted. She tried her best to forget how he called her a gold digger, but he was rubbing it on her face again.

"Yes, of course! He is rich anyway," Joseph’s voice rose. He gritted his teeth and unconsciously glared at Lucia.

"What is your problem? You have no right to say who I will date or go with! Your reaction is completely uncalled for!" Lucia shouted and placed both hands on her hips. She was now angry at Joseph.

"Hah! I don’t want that guy to end up broke because of someone like you!" Joseph yelled and stepped closer to Lucia, where his saliva was flying over her face. His breathing became rigid as he controlled not to grab her.

"Then talk to Sir Daniel. Tell him I’m a gold digger since you cared about him so much!" Lucia screamed back and didn’t move from her spot. She didn’t want Joseph to see that he was affecting her as it would only boost his ego.

"You!" Joseph raised his hand and pointed at Lucia.

"What!? What are you going to do!?" Lucia shouted and raised her head to show she wasn’t afraid of him.

Joseph gritted his teeth. He stared at Lucia’s eyes for a few seconds before backing away.

"I suggest you be content where you are," Joseph stated, turning around.

"Whatever I do with my life. It has nothing to do with you. After all, you’re just a stranger," Lucia replied sternly and held herself not to harm Joseph.

"Tsk! Screw you!" Joseph shouted before walking away as fast as he could.

"My gosh!" Lucia gasped at Joseph’s audacity to intervene and dictate what she would do in her life. She hurriedly unlocked the door of her shop and went to her room.

Lucia threw her bag on the bed, pacing back and forth while thinking of any reason to justify Joseph’s action.

"I should have never gone to their house in the first place!" Lucia exclaimed in disbelief. She didn’t expect Joseph to be an @sshole as he looked like a good man.

"Ah! Forget about him. I have other things to do," Lucia shook her head to forget her encounter with Joseph. She went into the bathroom and cleaned herself before going to bed.

The next day, Lucia didn’t open the flower shop since she was not in the mood to meet and greet other people. Instead, she spent her time looking at the newspaper and noting every detail about the Turizer farm and the Nutri family.

"Hmm, I want to know more about their family’s history. Babi said it’s Danielo, but he’s already dead..." Lucia muttered to herself while browsing the newspapers.

It had been a few hours, and Lucia’s back had been aching from slouching for too long. As she was about to stop reading, a title caught her attention.

"Where’s the business tycoon Danielo Nutri," Lucia read the heading. It was in the small corner of the newspaper, and she wondered why that topic wasn’t on the first page.

Lucia continued reading, and her eyes widened.

"Danielo Nutri went missing after attending a meeting of an... unknown organization?" Lucia read out loud, and that sentence alone made her curious. Her thoughts immediately went to the Cassa Orphanage or the Bisco Company, but both were known to the public.

"I should take note of this," Lucia stated, putting that information in her tiny notebook containing all the details she wanted to ask Daniel soon.

"After three months, the Nutri family announced the death of Danielo Nutri to the public. The cause of death remained unknown, and the public voiced their opinion that the owner of the Turizer Farm is alive but was kept hidden to be safe..." Lucia read further, and that made her flabbergasted.

"Danielo is already dead, but they won’t believe it. No wonder this kind of content is on the small page instead of being highlighted," Lucia sighed and threw the newspaper away. She didn’t pay attention since, for her, another journalist’s opinion had no relevance to the truth.

Days went by, and Saturday came close. Lucia had already prepared herself. She was still determining what would happen during their date but wanted to gather much information before jumping to her next plan.

"Ugh, I wish it wouldn’t end up in a way that I don’t want," Lucia whispered while looking at the boxes of condoms in her drawer. She took several packs and put them in her bag. Her dress and knives were settled on the table, ready to be worn.

"I am tired of this," Lucia whispered, and a single tear escaped her eyes. All the exhaustion finally settled in, and she wanted to cope inside her room and wouldn’t come out for days, but she knew she couldn’t, or else more blood would spill.
