Chapter 470: The Next Date
Chapter 470: The Next Date
Lucia remained silent inside the carriage with Daniel inside. The information she received was still a shock for her, and she was recovering.
Daniel gazed at Lucia. He was used to female’s nonstop chitchat, especially when they were alone, and tried to grab his attention. He knew Lucia wasn’t interested in him, but that made him curious about her.
"Why did you open a flower shop? Is there a particular reason?" Daniel asked, attempting to strike up a conversation.
Lucia flinched and blinked a few times. "Ah, I like flowers," she replied.
"You like flowers, so you opened a flower shop? Haha! That’s a dedication; I like it," Daniel stated with a laugh. He was amused and delighted that she was able to make her dreams come true.
"I guess," Lucia smiled and looked down. She felt suffocated inside and tried her best to remain calm.
Daniel smiled back, hoping Lucia would continue the conversation and ask about him, but he only received silence.
Lucia stared at the window and watched the trees they passed by, ignoring Daniel. Her mind was still a mess, and she needed time to think of a plan.
"You’re not much of a talker, are you?" Daniel asked while leaning on his right knuckle.
Lucia glanced at Daniel. That time, she was a little bit pissed since she wanted a peaceful time to think, but he was distracting her.
"We have nothing to talk about, Sir Daniel," Lucia replied softly, but her face was twitching with the forced kind face she did.
Daniel raised an eyebrow. "Aren’t you curious about me or my family?" he asked.
That question made Lucia interested. After all, she wanted to confirm they were the ones who owned the farm that the Cassa Orphanage catered to.
Lucia opened her mouth to ask a question but stopped. She thought that if she went straight to ask about his family background and business, she would look suspicious and didn’t want to blow her chances.
"Well, we can talk about that next time," Lucia stated and grinned. She hinted about their meeting for another time without directly saying it.
Daniel’s eyes widened in astonishment. He had no experience of being asked for a date in his lifetime since it was an unspoken taboo that females must wait for a man to ask or plan for a date.
"Oh, uh, sure," Daniel looked away with his cheeks reddening. He couldn’t look at Lucia straight, or she would see how excited he was.
"Okay," Lucia smiled softly before gazing back at the window.
For the entire ride, the two were silent and into their own world of thoughts.
After a while, the carriage entered the city and went straight into Lucia’s flower shop.
"Thanks for the ride," Lucia stated kindly. She regretted a little bit about her giving the exact address of her shop.
"You’re welcome," Daniel replied. He watched as Lucia went down from the carriage, but something bugged him inside.
Daniel rushed out and held Lucia’s hand to stop her from leaving. "Wait!" he called.
Lucia was taken aback. Her eyes widened after feeling Daniel’s hand in hers. "Is something wrong?" she asked and stepped back.
Daniel immediately retracted his hand and pretended to cough. "I want to ask you about our next meeting," he stated while looking away in shyness.
"Ah," Lucia frowned. She needed information from Daniel, and it was good that they would meet again, but she needed to do a background check to be safe.
"I’m not in a hurry if you’re busy. I just want to clarify things to avoid confusion between... us," Daniel reasoned to cover the fact that he wanted to know the date and time.
"Well, perhaps next week, Saturday," Lucia replied, giving her enough time to think.
"Alright, I shall pick you up in this shop at 6:00 pm," Daniel said while looking at his clock, setting a reminder for him.
"Sounds good," Lucia smiled and curtsied slightly. "Farewell, Sir Daniel," she added.
Daniel smiled and waved, watching as Lucia entered her shop. He sighed deeply before entering the carriage and making notes of the preparation he needed to do during their date on Saturday.
On the other hand, Lucia watched at the window until Daniel was gone. Her heart was beating fast in nervousness. She slumped down on the floor, letting her anxiety out, and took her time to relax.
"This is better. I’m closer to my goal," Lucia whispered in relief. She looked around the flower shop, which was arranged and painted elegantly, and that made her smile.
In the world Lucia had lived in, she didn’t foresee herself opening a flower shop on her own, and she could live that way peacefully for years.
The thought of her possible simple life made Lucia smile, but she knew she couldn’t attain that peace when her mind was in chaos.
"I need to save them... I promised," Lucia whispered to remind herself of her goal and the things she already achieved. She shook her head and slapped her face to bring back her focus.
Lucia went down to the basement and saw Babi’s thin body. She went closer, and there was no more fluid running.
"You... came back," Babi opened her eyes and watched Lucia remove the needle from her skin.
Lucia pursed her lips and said nothing. She felt pity toward Babi since she was a victim as well, but kindness wouldn’t bring her answers.
"Did you... find... them?" Babi asked weakly. Her voice was rough and dry from lack of water.
Lucia stopped moving but continued after. That simple movement made Babi chuckle in amusement.
"You are... dedicated... amazing," Babi whispered and closed her eyes. Staying in that place and barely having anything to eat made her slowly accept her fate to die early, even though she wished to live longer in a peaceful environment and create a family.
Lucia sighed. She watched as Babi went back to sleep and began packing her stuff.
Initially, Lucia planned to kill Babi to keep everything a secret, but she wouldn’t be any different from those who murdered people.
In the end, Lucia decided to set Babi free with a threat.
