Chapter 469: The One She’s Searching

Lucia wasn’t able to sleep the entire night. Her focus was on the door even though she already put a chair on the knob for extra caution. She couldn’t help but think her life was in danger by staying longer in the mansion.

By five in the morning, Lucia went outside. She had already seen several servants walking in the garden to start their work.

Lucia went out cautiously, making sure she wouldn’t create any sound, but her luck wasn’t that great. She heard the door slammed open and flinched after seeing who it was.

"Good morning, Miss Lucia. You are up early today," Daniel stated after seeing her. He was wearing his pajamas made of silk.

"Same to you as well, Sir Daniel," Lucia replied softly, plastering a fake smile so she wouldn’t look suspicious.

"Are you leaving now? I insist on having breakfast here," Daniel stated and walked closer to Lucia. His presence showed dominance even though he didn’t look like one.

"Y-yes, so I won’t bother anyone and thank you for the offer, but I would like to reject it," Lucia replied, stepping back to create a space between them.

After seeing the dead bodies, Lucia’s perception of Daniel changed, and she felt sick being close to him.

"I insist, Miss Lucia. It will be bad in my name if I let a guest leave with an empty stomach," Daniel said sternly with a smile.

Lucia shivered and nodded in agreement to prevent any further conversation. She followed Daniel behind in silence while taking notice of her surroundings.

’I must be careful,’ Lucia thought. She didn’t want to know what would happen if she pissed Daniel off.

They went to the dining room. The servants were busy preparing utensils for both of them.

"Have a seat, Miss Lucia," Daniel stated and gestured toward an empty chair beside him.

Lucia followed and silently sat. She didn’t utter a word and watched the servants’ faces as they started bringing in the food. She wanted to look closely at their expressions after working in the residence that killed people.

"How’s your sleep, Miss Lucia?" Daniel asked to start a conversation.

Lucia glanced at Daniel. "I sleep like a dead log, Sir Daniel. The bed is so soft that I can’t help but snuggle," she lied with a fake smile.

Lucia felt highly uncomfortable, and the images of the corpse she had seen flashed back into her brain.

"That’s great! The beds are made from the finest materials in the city," Daniel explained with pride. It was a boost in his ego to know Lucia was pleased.

"Thank you for taking care of me," Lucia replied and looked at the bacon placed before her; it looked juicy.

Lucia stared at the bacon for long, which she viewed as similar to the chopped corpse. That made her question if it was human meat or not.

"You can eat as many as you like. Don’t be ashamed," Daniel asked after noticing that Lucia wasn’t touching any of the food on the table.

"Ah, it’s still early, Sir Daniel," Lucia replied softly and went for the eggs instead to be safe. She didn’t trust any meat from the table from now on, and thinking she might have eaten human meat yesterday made her want to puke.

"Hmm," Daniel hummed in understanding. He took his portion and ate silently while glancing at Lucia from time to time.

Daniel was used for women to visit the mansion due to his mother’s persistence. They were beautiful, and some of them were from a prominent family backgrounds, but he didn’t like them.

The ladies acted respectfully and elegantly in all ways, always agreeing to his desires, but Daniel didn’t want a puppet. He wanted someone that equal to him, and he could depend on when he had a hard time.

Lucia kept eating but had no appetite. She only drank her coffee and ate two eggs. She remained still and waited for Daniel to finish as a respect to the host.

"Where are you staying, Miss Lucia. I can take you there since no carriage goes to this area aside from our personal rides," Daniel explained. He rubbed his chin while staring intently at Lucia. He was curious about her.

"Ah..." Lucia opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. She wanted to reject the offer, but she would need to walk out for hours, and she didn’t want that. "Y-you can take me to the flower shop I own," she replied.

"Alright. If you can wait for an hour. I’ll be ready," Daniel stated before standing up. He finished his drink and left the dining area to freshen himself.

Lucia was left alone with the servants looking at her, and she didn’t know what to do.

"Miss Lucia. I am Base, the family’s butler. Let me guide you toward the waiting area," Base stated and bowed slightly.

"Thank you," Lucia replied and stood up. She followed behind Base, and she was sent into a vast, empty room with several sofas around. She sat on one of them and waited.

Two servants went inside and served her cookies and milk while waiting. They left, but the butler stayed inside.

Lucia found it awkward, especially the loud silence between them. Even though she was already full, she decided to eat the cookies so she could do something aside from staring into space.

That made Lucia notice the gigantic portrait of a good-looking man in the corner.

The man had blond-colored hair and brown eyes, similar to Daniel’s features.

"That is Master Daniel’s father and husband to Misis Belo," Base explained after seeing where Lucia had been staring at.

"Oh, thank you for informing me," Lucia replied with a smile. She didn’t pay attention to it since, for her, it was irrelevant information.

"May I know his name?" Lucia asked out of curiosity.

"The name’s Master Danielo Nutri, founder of the Turizer Farm, the biggest one in the city," Base explained with pride.

Upon hearing Base’s words, Lucia’s body trembled. She looked up at Base with wide eyes.

"What... did you just say?" Lucia whispered, and her voice wavered. She only had a suspicion at the start but didn’t expect to find the one she was looking for.
