Chapter 448: The Mate He Never Have

The following day came. Lucia went down with heavy black bags under her eyes. She couldn’t sleep after seeing the majestic wolf that night. She even thought it was only her dream.

"Good morning," Lucia greeted Gastone, who was frying some eggs for their breakfast.

"Morning," Gastone replied and faced Lucia. He, too, had eye bags.

"You look tired," Lucia muttered after noticing Gastone’s drooped face.

"Ah, I slept late," Gastone explained before pushing a plate to Lucia that contained the food he cooked.

"Thank you," Lucia replied. She didn’t have an appetite, but she would eat not to waste Gastone’s efforts. "I’m supposed to be the one cooking... since you hired me," she added.

"Hmm," Gastone hummed. He didn’t care about it anymore since he only wanted to eat good food and not die due to Lucia’s cooking.

After Gastone was done cooking his food. He sat before Lucia and ate silently. It was an awkward silence, knowing she would leave after a couple of hours.

"Gastone," Lucia called while looking at the egg yolk.

"What is it?" Gastone asked nonchalantly.

"Do you..." Lucia paused. She found it hard to say the whole sentence since it was too embarrassing.

"Just say it," Gastone pushed further.

"Well, I just want to ask if you... umm, like me," Lucia whispered. Her voice was so tiny that the fork scraping the plate was louder than her.

"Did you say something?" Gastone blinked a couple times, acting as if he heard nothing. His heart beat loudly at her question, and he didn’t know how to respond.

Gastone saw Lucia as his mate and knew he liked her because of that and didn’t mind telling her if she liked him too. His pride would be boosted if that happened.

"Ah! Nevermind. Don’t think about it much," Lucia exclaimed while shaking her head aggressively.

"Okay," Gastone smiled tightly in disappointment that she backed out.

"Umm, does the forest have wolves?" Lucia asked, changing the subject.

"Why do you ask?" Gastone replied. His attention peaked at the mention of ’wolves’ since he accidentally made eye contact with her last night. He wanted to see her.

Gastone didn’t think Lucia would take an interest in wolves. He expected she would act as if it was just a common animal found in the forest.

"Because I saw one last night! It looks so beautiful under the moonlight!" Lucia exclaimed with twinkles in her eyes.

"Is it the first time you saw one?" Gastone asked in curiosity but made sure to prevent exposing his identity.

"Yes! I mean, I found them in pictures, but not in real life!" Lucia giggled happily.

"I see. That’s quite a reaction from you," Gastone replied, continuing to eat as if it wasn’t a big deal.

"Have you seen one before?" Lucia asked with interest. She leaned forward, excited to hear Gastone’s answer.

Gastone shrugged. He didn’t want to discuss it since Lucia might want to see one.

"Ah~ if I knew them existing here. I should have stayed longer," Lucia whispered and poked fun at her food. She glanced at Gastone to see any reaction after hinting that she didn’t want to go just yet, but his face was stoic, to her surprise.

"How much knowledge do you have of a wolf?" Gastone asked, facing her.

"Well, I’ve read about werewolf before, a novel and the story just fascinate me. That’s why I want to see a real wolf, but it’s not like they could transform, haha," Lucia giggled. For her, it was a mere fiction that couldn’t possibly happen in real life.

Meanwhile, Gastone remained unfazed by her words. He became serious and swallowed the last bite of his food.

"What do you think about werewolves then?" Gastone asked. He knew humans tend to create love stories of different creatures as fiction since he had read one about Vampires, and it truly turned him off.

"Huh? Hmm, based on what I’ve read. They are romantic to their mates but quite aggressive. It’s scary!" Lucia exclaimed and showed a fearful expression.

Gastone’s mouth hung in shock. He expected a terrible image of werewolves, but hearing his mate was scared of it stressed him.

"I see," Gastone replied and looked away.

"But they’re fictional. So, I don’t really care," Lucia stated hastily after seeing Gastone’s reaction, afraid she had said something offensive.

"Okay. We will leave in an hour. Is that alright with you?" Gastone asked, standing up and leaving his plate.

"Yes," Lucia replied and hurriedly finished her meal. She left the plate on the table before running to the bathroom to shower.

Gastone was the one who washed the dishes. He didn’t mind since it diverted his attention away. However, he couldn’t stop thinking of his mate being afraid of werewolves and wondered what would happen if he told her he was one.

"Maybe that’s why this is not working," Gastone muttered, referring to their failing relationship. He shrugged, and that reason plastered on his mind, making him relax as he found a reason why she didn’t like him.

Gastone considered coming with Lucia to the human world since he had met his mate, who was not a werewolf. That gave him no reason to stay longer in the realm, as his presence could cause trouble.

But that would only encourage him to pursue Lucia, and it would be hard for him to move on and wait for his second-chance mate.

"Maybe, I should visit Draco to piss him off," Gastone muttered, remembering all the sh^tty letters sent to him. He also wanted to know what the Palace planned on doing to the Mystic Pack after its fall.

"I’ll enjoy the time left here before settling in the human world," Gastone added before placing the last plate on the rack. He dried his hands and went to his room to prepare the things he would give Lucia as a remembrance of him.

Gastone wanted Lucia to recall him even in the corner of her memory as she grew old and had her own family. He would be satisfied seeing her happy with the man she loved, even if it was not him.
