Chapter 438: The Words of a Nobody

Lucia stared at the burnt bread on the tray. She wasn’t mentally fit to focus on cooking when her brain screamed Gastone’s name. She wanted to do it every day since she had tasted his milk a couple of times.

Deep inside, Lucia regretted asking Gastone to leave if she only knew how tasty he was.

"Ah! You’re really an idi0t!" Lucia smacked her forehead to remove those thoughts. She began slicing the burned part of the bread.

Lucia knew she could ask Gastone to revoke her leaving even if it killed her pride, but she had unfinished business that she needed to continue and finish. She was happy that she could rest well for several weeks by Gastone’s side, but if she remained longer. Her plan would be destroyed, and all the evidence she attained would be useless.

"I’ll just search for you when I’m done," Lucia muttered sadly. She sighed before putting jam on the sliced bread and warm milk in the cups. When she turned around, she nearly threw the tray she held upon seeing Gastone standing behind her.

"Ah!" Lucia screamed in surprise.

Gastone held Lucia still to avoid her dropping the food she made. "Careful," he stated sweetly.

"Why are you always so close to me? You almost gave me a heart attack!" Lucia screamed while taking several deep breaths to calm herself.

"Haha! Can’t you feel my presence?" Gastone asked while shaking his head in amusement. He took the tray from Lucia and put it on the table. He noticed the dark spots on the bread but said nothing.

"No! You don’t even make a single sound?" Lucia rolled her eyes before sitting at the side of the table. She expected Gastone to sit on the opposite end, his usual place, but to her surprise, he sat right next to her.

"Tea with milk is good. You should try it," Gastone stated with a bread in hand. He took a bite and enjoyed the taste while ignoring Lucia’s stare.

"Why are you here?" Lucia asked nonchalantly.

"Should I not be here?" Gastone asked back and glanced at Lucia.

"You know that’s not what I meant," Lucia grumbled and slowly moved her chair away from Gastone to create distance between them.

"You’re making me laugh, Lucia," Gastone whispered before dropping the bread on his plate. He moved his entire head and body toward Lucia to give her his attention.

Lucia shuddered after hearing her name in Gastone’s mouth. She ecstatically imagined how his tongue moved by the letters of her name. She gripped the fabric of her dress to suppress her emotions.

Lucia didn’t know why she felt that way when Gastone always called her name, but that time was different.

"D-do I look f-funny to you!?" Lucia shouted and turned her body away from Gastone. She aggressively grabbed the bread and stuffed it all into her mouth to prevent her from speaking further.

"No, you look beautiful, but why are you timid to be near me when you already sucked my precious jewels?" Gastone chuckled in amusement.

Lucia snapped her head toward Gastone. She opened her mouth to reply, but she couldn’t. Of all the words he said, what her brain focused on was the word ’beautiful.’

’Am I beautiful in Gastone’s eyes?’ Lucia asked herself. Her eyes twinkled while hurriedly munching the bread.

The sight of Lucia looking like a hungry hamster made Gastone laugh.

"Haha! Look at your face! Haha! Are you that hungry? Hahaha!!!" Gastone grabbed his stomach since it was so funny he nearly had a stomach ache.

Lucia’s eyes widened. She had seen Gastone smile before, but it was her first time hearing him laugh sincerely. She felt good for making him chuckle, even though it was because of her appearance.

"Have you... gotten a girlfriend before?" Lucia asked out of nowhere after she swallowed her food. She became curious about Gastone’s romance history and wanted to know what kind of lover he had.

"Ah..." Gastone stopped laughing and became awkward. He thought about the women he f^cked, but there was no one to be called as his girlfriend.

"I don’t have that kind of relationship with a woman before... I—" Gastone remembered Melania Palmiotto, daughter of Alpha Palmiotto of the Nightwalker pack, third in rank.

Gastone didn’t deem Melania his girlfriend, but they were set to be engaged before things started to be chaotic, and she was forced back into her own pack for safety.

"What is it?" Lucia asked worriedly. She could see on Gastone’s face that he had someone before.

"I don’t think you can categorize it as my girlfriend, but I do have someone before. It’s more of a political arrangement between the families," Gastone explained briefly to avoid dwelling on the word ’fiancee’ or ’marriage’, but that wouldn’t stop Lucia from asking.

"Do you mean... an arranged marriage?" Lucia asked. Her voice wavered a bit, but she tried to act casually to avoid misunderstanding.

"Perhaps. It’s unimportant since the arrangement is cancelled," Gastone shrugged. He drank the warm milked tea to freshen his throat. He didn’t care about Melania a bit, but the topic brought him back to his past.

"Why is it cancelled? Did she run away? Maybe she has a hidden lover?" Lucia pushed further. She was interested to know the truth but noticed how Gastone became stiff.

"Who wants to marry me? Look at me, Lucia. I have no money or property in hand. I am a nobody..." Gastone’s voice rosed at the starting sentence but grew weaker at the end. His own words hurt him, thinking he wasn’t relevant anymore.

Gastone felt he was falling into a bottomless void of depression when, suddenly, a light dragged him back to reality. He glanced at the side and saw Lucia touching his arm with her doe eyes looking up at him.

"Are you alright?" Lucia asked after detecting Gastone’s unusual behavior.

"Yes, I’m fine. I’m going to take a short run. Stay here," Gastone stated sternly and stood up. As he was about to go outside, Lucia shouted.

"You’re not a nobody, Gastone. I believe you have good qualities to make any woman happy!" Lucia pursed her lips. She wanted to encourage Gastone even though he had several flaws she didn’t like.

Gastone stopped in his tracks. He didn’t dart at Lucia, but he smiled at her words. It may be simple, but that was enough for him not to get depressed.
