Chapter 425: The Boss

Lucia and Navin looked at one another intently. They were silent, but it spoke louder of what they wanted to express.

The shop owner awkwardly handed Lucia the handkerchief she chose, as he didn’t want to get involved in their internal argument.

"T-that’s five silvers," the shop owner whispered with a cold sweat.

Lucia handed him a gold coin and waited for the change without letting her eyes away from Navin.

"Let’s go now, Lady. We don’t want to let Lord Gastone wait for long," Navin smiled and gestured for Lucia to return, but she remained still.

Lucia sighed and relaxed her body. She changed her facial expression and appeared angelic.

"Alright," Lucia stated with a smile. She took a step forward before making a surprised expression. She raised her hand and began to wave. "He’s here!" she exclaimed while pointing in a specific direction.

"Huh?" Navin frowned and looked back to see who Lucia was waving since he didn’t feel Gastone’s presence. He saw nothing familiar and became confused. "Do you know someone here..."

When Navin looked back, Lucia was nowhere in sight. His adrenaline rushed over his body in a panic that he had lost her.

"Sh^t!" Navin cursed and ran straight forward. He used his nose to detect Lucia’s scent, but since it was covered by an ore, he couldn’t locate her.

Meanwhile, the shop owner saw it all. He grabbed the silver coins Lucia left for him to shut up and continued his business, as he didn’t want to get entangled with their problems.

After searching for five minutes, Navin gave up and went to Gastone’s location instead to notify him of Lucia’s disappearance. He was nervous since he knew he would be blamed for his irresponsibility.

On the other side, Lucia ran as fast as she could while keeping hidden. That was when she was thankful for her height since it was hard to see from above.

"I need to find a good place to hide," Lucia muttered while looking back. She was scared that Navin would catch up with her, which caused her to not pay attention to what was happening before her.

Lucia felt herself collide with a hard, warm object in a loud stud. She fell onto her buttocks due to the impact.

"I’m sorry!" Lucia shouted and looked up. Her eyes widened when surrounded by a group of men in ragged clothes.

"Watch where you’re going!" a man shouted angrily, pointing at the spilt drink in his chest.

"It’s not my intention to—" Lucia tried to explain, but couldn’t when those men stepped forward to intimidate her.

"What are you blubbering about, huh!?" the man shouted and took a heavy step in front of Lucia. It made him happy how she looked weak and fragile. His men did the same thing and enjoyed it when Lucia shivered in dread.

I-I’m sorry..." Lucia whispered as tears started to form in her eyes. She felt so alone and unprotected in an unknown place, and a part of her regretted leaving Gastone and Navin.

All Lucia wanted was to get away for a few minutes and ask the people around for directions and explanations on which part of the world she was in.

"Boss, she looked so little. We can use her," a man whispered with a smirk.

Lucia’s eyes bulged upon hearing those words. Memories of her past haunted her; all she could do was shake in anxiety and trauma.

"What do you think you’re doing!?" a booming voice shouted amongst the crowd.

That time, they got a little attention from passersby, who wanted to see what was happening.

"Huh, what is this freak yelling at!?" the group boss sneered and crossed his arms to show his muscles.

Gastone stepped before Lucia while Navin helped her stand up from the ground. "I said, what are you doing to her?" he stated sternly, ensuring his words were precise.

"She hit us first! Look at this mess!" the boss pointed at his wet clothes in rage. He hated how his supposed to be possession was taken.

Gastone didn’t say anything before flicking a gold coin toward the man. "That will be enough to buy a few more shirts," he stated before turning around, but that wasn’t the end.

The group of men felt insulted.

The boss growled and stepped forward to close his distance to Gastone. He reached his hand to grab Gastone’s hood, but he felt his balls crack before he could.

Gastone had kicked him without turning around as he knew he would attack.

"BOSS!" the minions screamed and went to aid their boss’s pain.

"That’s cheating!" the boss shouted while holding his balls with his head on the ground.

The other onlookers laughed at what they had seen and went on their day. It was typical for a few chaos to happen in the market due to its heated environment.

"Let’s go," Gastone said, glancing at Navin before moving forward. He didn’t say a word to Lucia since his rage was boiling deep inside him, and he didn’t want to lash out.

Lucia rode with Navin when they went home while Gastone carried the groceries. It was a silent and awkward ride.

Navin slowed his horse to converse with Lucia without Gastone hearing it.

"You know, I’ll be punished after this since I wasn’t able to do my job properly," Navin informed Lucia. He wanted her to understand the result of her actions.

"I... I’m sorry," Lucia was filled with guilt while lowering her head.

"Don’t say that to me, but to him," Navin gestured toward Gastone, who had a stiff posture. "Also, if you want to leave this place. It’s better to tell him the truth instead of getting us into trouble, Lady Lucia," he added nonchalantly.

"Y-yes, I will try," Lucia replied with a nod. She feared Gastone would throw her away if she told him her true feelings about departing when she was still not independent enough. She planned to use him financially, but her plans failed her.

And now, Lucia didn’t know where to start.
