Chapter 423: The Provider
Chapter 423: The Provider
Gastone looked at himself in the mirror and glanced at his golden hair. He took his tie, which cascaded his hair down his waist. He hadn’t cut it since it was his signature look that many women envied.
No man in the realm had the same hair texture as him, and at one glance, they would immediately recognize Gastone.
"I guess it’s time for a change," Gastone muttered, taking scissors from the cabinet. It hurt him to cut the hair he took care of for years, but he would do it for Lucia.
"I’ll keep you as a remembrance for my old self," Gastone whispered as he looked at his hair before chopping it down. His strands fell on the towel before him, and he felt a part of him was gone.
After an hour, Gastone left the bathroom with his hair wrapped in a tie. He wanted to keep it as a memory.
At the same time, Lucia was in the kitchen preparing their meal for the day. It was a simple egg soup that was a bit salty and bread. Their food supply was nearly empty, and they needed to buy more groceries.
Lucia went to call Gastone when they both faced each other at the corner.
"Kyah!" Lucia gasped in shock after seeing Gatsone’s new look. Her eyes twinkled at seeing how manly he became with just a hairstyle.
"What?" Gastone asked with a pink blush on his cheeks. He was a bit skeptical about his look, whether it suited him or not.
"Ah... AH! Nothing. Food is ready!" Lucia shouted and immediately left since she didn’t want Gastone to see his burning face.
"Wait! I—" Gastone reached for Lucia to stop her from leaving, but it was too late. He sighed in defeat and followed behind, as he was also hungry.
During the entire meal, Lucia didn’t glance at Gastone even once since his new look was exactly her type.
Gastone, on the other hand, was fighting with his self-confidence. He based on Lucia’s reaction, he became unattractive, but he could no longer do something about it.
"Prepare yourself. We will go out in an hour," Gastone stated and finished his meal faster.
"Where are we going?" Lucia asked in confusion, and this time, she looked at Gastone. Her cheeks blushed in deep red while trying to maintain eye contact without trembling, or else, it would look obvious that she was attracted to him.
"To shop," Gastone replied. He furrowed his brow upon seeing how Lucia’s face looked like she had a sunburn. "Are you... alright?" he asked in concern.
"Huh? Y-yes, why?" Lucia frowned at Gastone’s question.
"You look sick," Gastone stated and reached to touch Lucia’s cheeks, but he stopped before he could touch her skin. He retracted his hand and turned his back. "Please prepare yourself as fast as you can. Don’t be late," he added and walked away.
Lucia pursed her lips and nodded. She touched her cheeks and noticed they were hot. She covered herself with her hair in shame but was a bit disappointed that Gastone thought she was sick than anything else.
"Tsk," Lucia became annoyed while aggressively slamming the bread inside her mouth.
Lucia dressed herself simply as she thought they were going to a market to buy groceries. She started to get used to that lifestyle and felt peace for a while. Although, she still had her plan in mind.
Gastone was waiting outside in a horse with Navin.
"You look cool with that hairstyle, Lord," Navin complimented with a thumbs up, but Gastone ignored him. He valued Lucia’s reaction more than Navin.
"I’m here," Lucia waved to announce her presence.
"You’re late," Gastone grumbled with a wry smile.
’I’m five minutes early!’ Lucia thought while forcing a smile. She didn’t want to argue with Gastone, so she remained silent.
Gastone helped her hop the horse, and they started moving.
Lucia noticed that they were going in a different direction than the first place they went.
"Where are we going this time?" Lucia asked in curiosity.
"We can’t go back to that town after what happened... last time," Gastone replied nonchalantly while trying to look ahead without glancing at Lucia.
"Ah, I understand," Lucia muttered while remembering how she caused chaos to the public, especially Gastone. "I-I’m sorry," she added shyly.
"Hmm, it’s fine as long as you won’t do that again," Gastone stated sternly since he didn’t want to experience the same problem as before, but he also wanted to see how Lucia would act from that moment.
"Okay," Lucia nodded in understanding. She went along since she had a plan in mind.
After a few minutes, they arrived at another town bigger than the last one.
Gastone didn’t want to go there first since the chances were higher that his identity would be exposed, but since he had cut his hair. He was confident enough that he wouldn’t be identified anymore.
"Please make sure not to stray much farther from me," Gastone whispered as they were closer.
"Sure," Lucia replied and looked around. She noticed how even the females looked so tall compared to her. She was insecure about her height, so she always wore heels, but the shoes she had right now were only two inches tall.
Lucia personally lowered her hood to avoid gazes from other women. She also hated how her neck and head muscles were always in pain from looking up too much.
Gastone put his hood on as well for extra caution. He glanced around for possible people that he could remember so far.
"We don’t have enough food left," Lucia reminded Gastone in advance so they wouldn’t forget anything important.
"Alright. You shop," Gastone replied, as he didn’t want to pay attention to that matter. In his mind, he wanted to buy things that he deemed all ladies liked.
"Okay," Lucia replied with a smirk. She was excited to shop in the market to see what they sell from there.
Lucia loved shopping in the markets and checked the best quality food ingredients more than anything else, and she was a clean freak.
Gastone went ahead to the shops and boutiques after putting their horses in a shed. Navin was tagging on the back, which Lucia was confused about.
"Why is Navin coming with us?" Lucia whispered. She remembered that Jorge had gone along with them the last time.
"Ah! Uh... to help us carry all the stuff we purchase," Gastone replied as an excuse.
Navin heard them and turned around to laugh. He liked how Gastone was flustered for lying to his mate.
Gastone smiled tightly to prevent himself from snarling at Navin. He grabbed Lucia’s arm and dragged her toward a nearby shop selling dresses.
"I have enough from last time. I don’t need more," Lucia waved her hand in front to signal Gastone that she didn’t want to buy one.
"You don’t have thirty dresses to wear in a month," Gastone frowned in confusion. He knew most women have enough clothes to last them a whole year without repeating the same one.
"I do laundry every week. So I don’t need that much. It’s a waste of money," Lucia argued and walked away, but Gastone stayed.
Gastone didn’t say a word and glanced at Navin, signaling him to follow Lucia. He was annoyed that Lucia wasn’t following his command, but that wouldn’t stop him from spoiling her.
"Sir, what would you like to buy?" a lady approached Gastone with an unwilling smile.
"Let me look around," Gastone replied coldly and went to each section. He wanted to find the correct colors that suited Lucia.
A section full of light and pastel shades grabbed Gastone’s attention. He always liked those styles and wanted them to see on Lucia.
"Maybe I should buy one she can use for parties," Gastone muttered, grabbing everything he liked without remembering he had a budget. For him, he wanted to shower Lucia with material things to show how much he adored her.
Gastone proceeded to other boutiques and bought a few jewelry for her to wear. When he was satisfied, he followed Lucia’s scent to find her.
It took a while before Gastone found them in the overcrowded market. It surprised him that Lucia was there in the first place as he expected her to be under a shade or eating desserts.
Gastone pushed himself further while making sure his face remained hidden. He was struck by heat, and sweat dripped on his back.
"Lucia!" Gastone called out and hurriedly ran toward them with heavy bags in hand. "Why are you here!?" he asked in disbelief.
"I told you we needed food. So I went here and bought some," Lucia explained, showing Gastone the basket containing several vegetables.
"You should have waited for me. I haven’t given you money to buy this stuff," Gastone stated while taking out his pouch.
"I lend her some coins," Navin stated with an awkward laugh. "You owe me, Lord," he added with a wink.
Gastone cringed and hurriedly gave Navin one gold coin to shut his mouth. He gave the rest to Lucia to impress her that he was rich enough to provide her with everything she wanted.
