Chapter 410: The Way He Fell
Gastone was terrified to put the pancake in his mouth, but he didn’t want Lucia to feel bad if he didn’t eat a single bite. He forced himself to swallow a piece and carefully chewed it. He expected a terrible flavor but was surprised it actually tasted good.
"Wow, this is amazing!" Gastone exclaimed with delight. He continued eating until he got to the burnt-to-crisp pancake. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion about whether he was supposed to eat it.
Lucia placed the cup of coffee with a bright smile on her face. "Are you enjoying, Mister Gastone?" she asked with twinkles in her eyes.
"Hmm, yes," Gastone replied, pointing at the dark piece of food in his place.
"Ah, it’s a little bit overcooked, but it tastes delicious!" Lucia explained and stared at Gastone, waiting for him to take a bite.
Gastone felt forced. He gulped and ate the whole thing in one bite since he didn’t want his taste buds to suffer. He didn’t chew and instead swallowed it entirely.
"It’s delicious," Gastone muttered and drank the black coffee, only to nearly throw up due to the extreme sweetness.
"Thank you! I worked hard," Lucia smiled sweetly and ate an apple for breakfast.
"You’re just eating a fruit?" Gastone asked upon seeing Lucia. He thought she was eating pancakes as well.
"Ah, I like to have an apple every morning," Lucia replied and munched. Her nervousness vanished after seeing Gastone wasn’t reacting indifferently to her, and she felt relief.
"I see. You’re quite a healthy person," Gastone smiled, but it didn’t stay for long when he felt his stomach grumble. He never experienced that kind of feeling before, and the pain struck.
"Are you okay?" Lucia asked after seeing Gastone’s skin paled.
"I-I’m fine," Gastone replied softly. His vision became blurry, and his body flopped on the table. His consciousness faded, and the last thing he saw was Lucia shaking him.
"Kyah! Mister Gastone!" Lucia cried out and panicked. She didn’t know why Gastone fell unconscious since he was doing well a few seconds ago.
Lucia checked Gastone’s pulse and his breathing, which was normal. That made her ease a little, but she was concerned that he wouldn’t be able to wake up. She went to the back door and wanted to ask the two workers for help, but before she could. She stopped.
"Why am I panicking? It’s better if he died this way," Lucia muttered to herself while looking at her hands. Her vision slightly changed after a memory resurfaced with her hands blooded on the cold, rainy night.
Lucia flinched and tripped on her own foot after stepping backwards. She dropped down, butt first, on the floor.
"Ugh," Lucia groaned in pain. She shook her head and tapped her cheeks. "What am I thinking!?" she exclaimed before glancing toward Gastone.
Lucia stood up and sighed. She thought she would be the first suspect if Gastone died then, especially since two men had already seen her with him.
"It’s too risky for me. So, please wake up," Lucia stated sternly and poked Gastone with a fork. She rolled her eyes and kicked him on the shoulder, causing Gastone to fall on the floor.
Gastone remained unconscious, with a few bubbles coming from his mouth. Lucia crouched down and kept poking Gastone. Her innocent aura vanished and was replaced with a sneer.
"Well, if you’re going to wake up. Perhaps you need to think I take care of you. Ah! I’m so genius!" Lucia exclaimed loudly and started laughing like a maniac.
After a good three minutes of laughing, Lucia dragged Gastone by his arms toward the living room. She struggled a bit since he was heavy for her size.
Lucia put Gastone on the sofa and placed a blanket over him with a wet towel on his forehead. She slumped on the other couch and stared at the window where the forest stood peacefully. They were supposed to go shopping, but she knew Gastone would wake up later.
"I can’t believe I let myself dragged by a stranger to his house. I wonder when you will try to r@pe me, Mister Gastone," Lucia muttered and looked at Gastone’s face after deciding to watch him. That was the time she was able to observe his features.
Gastone’s golden hair, similar to gold, shone brightly and had a fair complexion. His sharp nose and thick, long lashes accentuated his beauty. Along with that, his pink, plump lips made him look kissable.
Lucia couldn’t help but stare at the man before him. It was her first time seeing such a handsome human being in her life. She leaned closer and sniffed his scent. Somehow, she found his smell nice.
"It’s a shame a man like you to die. It’s already rare for a face like that to exist in this world. Most of them were so ugly, like uglier than a frog! So, stay alive for a while!" Lucia exclaimed with hatred. She poured her frustration out while shaking her head in disappointment.
Lucia bit her lips and sighed deeply. She felt emotionally sad and drained in her life. Even though she was saved by a man who gave her shelter, she still felt her world was a mess with a blurred future. She wanted to build a peaceful life, get married and bear kids.
"I’m sure many women chase you like ants," Lucia whispered and chuckled. She wasn’t st^pid or naive to the real cruel world since she experienced it first-hand, but she felt good when Gastone took care of her as if she was a child with less knowledge.
It was true that Lucia escaped the Orphanage, but the first time she met Gastone in the forest resulted from her actions. She sold herself to those men who tried to catch her when she ran away with the money after she took the payment without finishing the job.
Lucia knew she wasn’t ugly and used her advantage to lure the men to empty their pockets for her. That method was a success, and she created it as her way of living.
