Chapter 405: The Human Mate
Chapter 405: The Human Mate
Gastone anxiously fidgeted his fingers while waiting for an answer. Ultimately, he brought Lucia into the Werewolf realm since he couldn’t afford to leave her behind, knowing she was chased by dangerous men.
"Are you out of your mind!?" Draco shouted in disbelief. He rubbed his face while walking back and forth.
"I put a blindfold on her eyes to prevent her from seeing the portal," Gastone reasoned to give justice to his actions, but Draco was not having it.
"She’s human! This is not the right moment to add problems, Gastone!" Draco raised his voice. He didn’t expect more stress to arrive.
"Well, I can’t just leave my mate alone!" Gastone stood up and yelled. He didn’t like how Draco shoved his mate away because she was a human, not a wolf.
"Rosina has just given birth. I don’t want her to worry about this thing!" Draco argued. He only wanted to look out for his own mate.
"You’re not the only one who’s worried here. If you’re in my position, what will you do!?" Gastone stood face-to-face with Draco.
Both men glared at one another, and their dominance radiated inside the room.
Gastone knew it would be dangerous to challenge the King, but he didn’t want to send Lucia back into the human world alone.
"Don’t you dare say a word to anyone about this, especially my mate," Draco whispered aggressively and stepped forward to show his dominance.
"We can’t hide this forever," Gastone replied and frowned. He brought Lucia into the realm to keep her safe but didn’t know where to start.
"I know, but you need to get to know her first and perhaps tell her you’re a wolf before introducing her to the Pack as your partner. You won’t want your human mate to run away, right?" Draco muttered before leaving the room in a hurry, but when he opened the door, he saw Rosina approaching.
"Stay calm," Draco mouthed without a sound toward Gastone before plastering himself with a wide smile.
"Oh, you’re here," Rosina stated upon seeing Draco coming out of the room. She instantly smelled Gastone’s scent as well.
"Ah, yes, my love. I’m just talking to Gastone," Draco stated nonchalantly as if nothing had happened. He went beside Rosina and poked his son’s cheeks. "Isn’t he just adorable," he added and made childish noises.
"Hmm," Rosina hummed and glanced at Gastone. "Welcome back. I hope you bear no huge grudge against us," she stated while entering the room.
"Ah..." Gastone didn’t know what to say. Deep inside, he still had a grudge since he felt robbed, but by the time he spent in the human world alone. He found it peaceful to just let things go on its own.
"Well, you’re back. You can stay here in the Palace or any houses under the royals, but I hope you won’t do any sh^t," Rosina smiled and took her baby from Fina’s arms. "And look at my child, isn’t he adorable," she added, showing Gastone her child.
"Yes... he looks like you," Gastone replied after seeing the auburn hair of the baby.
"I know, right," Rosina stated proudly before leaving the room since she needed to breastfeed her baby.
Draco and Gastone remained still until Rosina passed and out of their sight.
"I’ll pick a house that is far from here. It will be confusing if she sees a Palace out of nowhere," Draco sighed and glanced back. He saw Gastone’s hardened and concerned face. "Also, let me meet her," he added.
"Huh? Why?" Gastone became defensive since he assumed Draco would tell Lucia about his past, not his personality, but his status in the Pack.
"What do you mean by why?" Draco crossed his arms and squinted. He felt like Gastone thought ill of him.
"No," Gastone shook his head in disagreement.
"Are you planning to protect her alone?" Draco asked sternly and saw the anger in Gastone’s eyes.
"I am his mate. Of course, I need to protect her. Why are you even concerned about us? We are not related in any terms," Gastone grumbled the last sentence and looked away.
They were basically strangers who grew up in one house and played ’family’ together.
Draco pursed his lips. What Gastone stated was true, and he had no comebacks for it, especially since they were supposed to be enemies. If it weren’t for Rosina, Draco wanted to banish Gastone to prevent a revolt from surfacing.
"Yes, that’s true. You’re still a prisoner here. That’s why I need to meet your mate. So that if you do some sh^t behind our backs, you will know who will pay for your sins. You must be thankful I’m respectful enough to ask you for permission," Draco stated sternly, followed by a growl to show Gastone who was the stronger one between them.
Gastone’s mouth trembled as he wanted to bite Draco’s neck and kill him. The thought he was threatened and Lucia was used didn’t sit well with him, but he couldn’t do anything. He knew how royalty worked, and he needed to follow to keep Lucia safe.
"Yes... Your Majesty," Gastone replied calmly and looked down. He fisted his hand behind his back tightly to control his raging emotion.
"Good. Now, lead the way," Draco smiled and stepped aside. He knew where Lucia was located, but he was careful because she was a human.
Gastone didn’t say a word before going out of the room. He went to the back door of the Palace where Lucia was staying in one of the servant’s chambers, guarded by Draco’s loyal knights.
"She’s here," Gastone informed and gestured toward the door where Lucia was sitting.
"I see," Draco nodded and removed his crown, robe and other jewels he had. He gave them to the Knights and gestured for them to go. When they were alone, he motioned Gastone to enter.
"What are you planning?" Gastone whispered while glaring at Draco.
"Do you want to get out of here or not? I don’t want to deal with this bullsh^t in the first place," Draco growled and yanked the door open.
Gastone panicked and entered first before Draco to protect Lucia if Draco decided to attack her mate.
"Mister... Are you there?" Lucia whispered when she heard muffled voices and shuffling. She was sitting on the bed and kept her blindfold after Gastone told her to stay still. She was nervous but decided it was better to be with her savior than go back to the orphanage. That was how desperate she was to escape her capture.
Draco shoved Gastone to the side and looked at the woman before him. He snapped his gaze to Gastone and pointed at the blindfold.
"Are you f^cking serious?" Draco mouthed without a sound. He shook his head with disappointment at how Gastone treated his mate.
Gastone bit the corner of his mouth to stop himself from punching Draco. He was inexperienced in terms of pursuing a lady since he got it easier before, and Rosina was actually the one who slapped him out of his delusions that he was a great man to marry.
Draco knew Lucia was blindfolded but didn’t expect she would still be after arriving in that room. He took out the cloth and stepped back, pushing Gastone in front.
Lucia flickered her eyes, and the first thing she saw was Gastone’s hardened face. Fear crept inside her and shuffled backwards to create some distance. "I-I didn’t remove the cloth!" she exclaimed, raising both hands to show she was innocent.
"Don’t worry, I did," Draco stated, showing Lucia the clothes used as blindfolds.
"Oh, haha," Lucia laughed awkwardly. She stood up and bowed. "He-hello... I am Lucia," she introduced herself politely.
"I’m Draco. Nice to meet you," Draco stated softly and glanced at Gastone, who remained silent. He wanted Gastone to tell Lucia they were moving to a new house.
"Ah, this is Draco’s place," Gastone panicked. He didn’t know what to say and felt dumb.
Draco shook his head and returned his attention to Lucia. "Well, this man just wants you to know he will be leaving for his house and ask if you want to come with him," he stated softly, pointing at Gastone.
Lucia tilted his head and was confused about how Draco spoke for Gastone. "Where... are we going?" she asked timidly. She looked around the room and witnessed how plain it was to be Draco’s house. Although it was better than her old home.
"I want to work," Lucia whispered while getting enough courage to speak. "T-thank you for saving me, but I didn’t want to become a burden. I-I want to work and earn money to repay you, Mister!" she exclaimed and bowed down using all her body.
Gastone automatically reached down to prevent Lucia from lowering herself. "No, you don’t have to. You just have to stay with m—" he couldn’t complete his sentence when Draco smacked the back of his head. He had forgotten that Lucia was a human and not a wolf who understood the concept of a mate.
