Chapter 389: The Creature and the Traitors
Natan stopped strolling and glanced back. He felt a presence, but no one was behind him. He remained calm, but his hands slowly grasped his sword. He was alone and went down a different path. His plan was to explore the Labyrinth more than win.
"I wonder what this place is hiding," Natan whispered, feeling a chill behind him. When he turned around, he came face to face with an unmoving statue.
"Huh? What is this?" Natan muttered and stared at the statue’s face. He was confused since how did the figure came close to him.
Without hesitation, Natan drew out his sword and swung toward the statue.
In a matter of seconds before Natan’s blade hit the statue’s face. It moved and blocked Natan’s attack with its sword.
"What are you?" Natan asked and jumped back to observe his enemy.
The statue didn’t reply and returned to its original position, which made Natan creep out, but he didn’t care as long as it wouldn’t stop him from going further.
Natan stared at the statue for several minutes to see if there would be any movement, but there was none.
"Hmm," Natan hummed and started walking again. He was about to turn to another path, but it was blocked by the statue’s sword.
"Do.... n-not.... enter..." The statue grumbled in its raspy voice, surprising Natan.
"What the hell!" Natan exclaimed in shock. He was still processing what had happened when a loud blast was heard.
A cloud of smoke formed from behind, and Guff, with other participants, were seen in their blooded clothes and wounded skin.
"Run! Run!" Guff shouted, and Natan didn’t hesitate to follow.
Natan looked back at the statue, which returned to its original body position without the knowledge of other participants.
Guff ran beside Natan, and there was blood dripping from his lips.
"What happened?" Natan asked, wondering what caused the commotion.
"The Pack traitors," Guff whispered, and that explanation was enough for Natan to understand.
The Pack Traitors were those who’re against the new rule of Felissa. They were fine with it before since Felissa was the heir to the leadership, but how she got the title made them upset.
They wanted the original ascension of the title. There were two types, one was if the Alpha died, and the other one was marriage.
And Felissa was not fit into the category, much more that she was a female holding a Luna title. The traitors wanted an Alpha to lead them and not a Luna.
The traitor’s plan was to kill all the participants that were on Felissa’s side. They would use the Trial as an opportunity to show the Pack that Felissa was incompetent and used the same reason to force the New Monarch to make Felissa step down.
"They should just accept the facts and live with it. All they do is chaos," Natan commented, and his usual silent and unbothered personality crashed.
The reason Natan left the Midnight Pack Knights was because he disliked how the previous Alpha ruled them with the strict and unreasonable regulations they needed to follow.
One of the reasons was Knights were not supposed to drink three glasses of water per day since it was not ’manly.’
Guff didn’t reply. He just wanted to survive and have a good life for his mate and pups.
"There are 8 traitors in total. They ambushed us, and everyone got separated," Guff explained briefly before going to the other path.
Natan followed Gaff, and the other participants ran forward with the traitors trailing behind them.
"We should get out of here," Guff whispered and was about to leave. He planned to save himself, but Natan stopped him.
"Have you encountered other statues?" Natan asked coldly.
"No," Guff shook his head in confusion.
"They will die," Natan replied nonchalantly. He stood up and went back to the path where they left.
"Are you crazy? We will die if we go with them!" Guff exclaimed and held Natan’s shoulder.
"This place... is not abandoned," Natan replied before shrugging Guff’s shoulder. He didn’t care about the other participants’ lives, especially since they were men, but he didn’t want to disturb were lay ahead inside the Labyrinth since it would affect the Midnight Pack.
"This guy!" Guff grumbled and reconsidered things. Ultimately, he followed Natan, who was walking far ahead without realizing the statue’s eyes were following them.
On the other side, Luca was running away from the traitors behind him.
"Why are they so desperate!" Luca exclaimed in annoyance. He focused on winning and trying to avoid problems inside the Labyrinth, but now, the traitors were targeting them.
Along with Luca were three other men. They were wounded, and their energy had been depleted for hours of fighting.
After a turn, they found themselves in a dead end.
"Sh^t!" a participant cursed.
The four of them looked back and came face-to-face with the traitors who had their swords out, and their eyes were burning with desire to kill them.
"We have no choice but to fight!" Luca muttered with a heavy sigh and wielded his sword to protect himself.
"Haha! What are you going to do, little noble? You can beg for your life, and we might consider it," The traitor stated and laughed. His comrades followed and made fun of the participants.
Luca’s mouth twitched. His pride hated how they insulted him, but he didn’t want to get his emotions played by them.
"You’re all going to regret this after the Luna knows about your betrayal!" Luca exclaimed, trying to get the upper hand, but he only received mockery from them.
"You call that b^tch a Luna? You are out of your mind! Do you even think we’ll let you get out of here? Haha! Let me tell you our plan before you die," The traitor stated, liking how he dominated the other wolves. He was confident because of their number against the participants.
Luca gritted his teeth but said nothing. He stared at the other participants who did the same.
"We will kill all of you here. After that, we’ll find the ’Alpha’ and hold him hostage. Then, we’ll file a complaint to the Palace about that girl’s incompetence that leads the Pack members to die. At the same time, our men will infiltrate the Pack’s position and manipulate that girl toward her doom. If all plans go well, the Midnight Pack will have the Old Leaders back. How wonderful is that!?" The traitor laughed whole-heartedly as he liked how good it sounded.
The other traitors agreed and started giving their cheers.
"The New Monarchs are wise enough to smell your plans!" a participant shouted when a sword flew toward his direction and struck his shoulder.
"Ah, I hate hearing that," traitor rolled his eyes and gestured to his other comrades to start finishing the job. As they moved forward, they heard a loud screech nearby.
It didn’t take long before the gigantic bird’s wings were seen flying above, but it flew irregularly, and it was falling down.
At the same time, Luca took the opportunity, kicked the traitor in his face, and ran away. He could end their lives but didn’t want to smear his sword with their impure blood.
"Hey! Come back!" The traitors shouted, but their attention was taken when the other participants attacked them.
At the same time, Guff and Natan arrived at the scene and met with Luca. They opened their mouths to speak, but the creature’s shriek was too loud. When they looked up, it was going down in their direction.
"Get out!" Vicenzo screamed when he saw the men. He pulled the rope wrapped around the bird’s neck to stop it from surging down for a few seconds to give the wolves time to escape.
The creature flapped its wings upwards, trying to shake Vicenzo and Elio from its body, but they held tightly.
"Sir!!!" Elio screamed in fear and grabbed the bird’s feathers tightly. His strength plucked some of the feathers and made the creature shriek in pain.
The creature lost its momentum and drove down. It hit wall after wall and went on.
Vicenzo and Elio crouched their head down to prevent the bricks from hitting them. It took a while before the bird’s body stopped moving, and when they looked up, they saw the forest.
"We’re out!" Vicenzo exclaimed in delight. His eyes shifted toward the Knights nearby; several were wounded from the flying bricks. Then, a fantastic scent hit his nose as fear grew inside him.
"Felissa!" Vicenzo exclaimed and jumped from the unconscious bird’s body. His eyes stared over Draco’s figure, covering Felissa with his robe. His heart was beating loudly, and he prayed that she was okay.
Draco lifted his head and had eye-to-eye with Vicenzo. He stood straight and removed his robe to show Felissa cowering down.
"Felissa! I’m back!" Vicenzo shouted and hugged Felissa’s body. He missed her after being away for hours.
"Vicenzo..." Felissa whispered in relief as tears streamed down her face. She hugged his mate but was interrupted by the creature’s body that began to awaken.
