Vicenzo didn’t move from his spot, hoping the gigantic bird wouldn’t take him as threatening. He stepped backwards to attempt in creating a distance between him and the creature, but to his incredible luck, he stepped on a twig.

*Crack*

The creature shrieked loudly, creating a wave of strong currents.

Vicenzo contracted his muscles to make sure he wouldn’t be flown away. He took out his sword the moment the creature attacked him.

The bird’s claws were made of gold and sharp enough to chop Vicenzo’s body in half.

"Oh, Sh^t!" Vicenzo cursed and retreated. He jumped to the side and used the wall as his shield. He realized the creature was more potent than he had thought.

’How can they live here!?’ Vicenzo thought and tried to make sense of the situation he was in. His only explanation was that the creature flew out of the Labyrinth and hunted food from the forest, which would make their appearance known to the wolves.

"This is no ordinary abandoned Labyrinth," Vicenzo whispered, and his tiny voice attracted the bird to his location.

The creature didn’t waste time and used its claws to scratch the wall, breaking it to pieces.

Vicenzo sprinted to the other path, hoping the bird would stop chasing him. At the same time, he went out off course and didn’t know where he was. It took a few turns before he was far enough from the creature.

The bird didn’t chase further when Vicenzo was out of its territory.

"I should not rush," Vicenzo whispered and opened the bag that Felissa prepared for them. There were several bottles of water, dried meat and snacks, but one thing caught his attention.

There was a white envelope inside.

Vicenzo took it out and opened it. "A map!... and it showed the exit," he stated in confusion. He thought the participants needed to figure out where the exit was, but Felissa helped subtly.

The only problem was if the path was blocked or if they were attacked by several creatures.

"I won’t be surprised if there are traps in here," Vicenzo stated with a laugh. He put the map in his pocket to ensure he wouldn’t lose it. He stood up and used his own map to navigate the place and see where he was.

But no matter how Vicenzo tried to figure it out. He didn’t know which part of the Labyrinth he was. The sun was starting to settle down, and the night slowly approached, which meant the danger would increase.

As Vicenzo looked around at the seemingly endless path in front of him. He started to get suspicious. The mist in the area became thicker, and it was hard for him to see the route.

’Something is going on,’ Vicenzo thought and halted. He increased his senses to see if he was alone or if someone was trying to stray him away, trapping him in a loop.

Vicenzo expanded his range in hearing until he heard a hiccup. He didn’t waste a second before dashing to the location with his sword ready to strike.

At the far distance, Vicenzo saw a figure through the mist. He was about to swing his sword when he smelled the person’s scent. As he got closer, he saw Elio crying while leaning against the wall.

"Oh," Vicenzo put down his sword and frowned.

"Huh?" Elio looked up with tears streaming down his cheeks. His eyes widened upon seeing Vicenzo, and he immediately clung to his legs. "Save me! Please, save me!" he screamed.

"Shh!" Vicenzo hushed him and looked around. He was concerned that a creature was around that could hear them.

"Alpha..." Elio sniffed and stood up. He was delighted that he found Vicenzo while he broke down and gave up.

"What happened to you?" Vicenzo asked in curiosity. He was confused because Elio was the one who wanted the group to stick together and safely escape the Labyrinth, but he was alone.

Elio looked down in defeat. "Everyone wants to find the exit first and..." he paused since he disliked what had happened next.

Vicenzo then remembered the commotion that happened back then. "Did a creature attack your group, or the participants assailed one another?" he asked sternly.

Elio pursed his lips and gave Vicenzo the same map in the bag. "I saw this piece of paper in my bag when I became thirsty. To my excitement, I showed it to everyone in hopes we will get out together safely, but..." he stated, but couldn’t continue.

"Understandable. This is a Trial and a contest for a spot that can change a wolf’s fate. Everyone is competitive," Vicenzo stated nonchalantly.

"Yes, I understand that too," Elio whispered.

"Are there any casualties among the group?" Vicenzo asked so that he could retrieve them and give them a proper burial.

"I-I don’t know, but there are wounded wolves. Some escaped, and I’m one of them," Elio explained, looking at the thick mist.

"I see. The only problem now is we find the source of this... abnormality," Vicenzo stated, putting his sword back in his waist.

"Abnormality? Ah, you mentioned about... a creature," Elio whispered and realized there were other living beings besides them. Fear showed in his face, and tears swelled in his eyes. "Are we... going to die!?" he exclaimed.

Vicenzo slapped Elio’s face as hard as he could, making his neck almost twist 360 degrees. He wanted Elio to snap out of his cowardness.

"Calm down and focus!" Vicenzo sighed and shook his head. He didn’t want to get violent, but Elio’s fear and wimpiness got on his nerves.

"B-but... I’m sorry, Alpha!" Elio cried down and slammed his head on the ground to ask forgiveness. He didn’t care if Vicenzo slapped him. Hence he knew he deserved it.

"Stand up, and don’t call me by that title. We need to move forward, or else we are stuck here," Vicenzo muttered, pulling Elio by his collar.

"Y-yes! I will follow you... Sir!" Elio exclaimed and composed himself while trying his best not to sniff.

"Alright! Let’s go!" Vicenzo stated with energy.

Both men started walking forward, but little did they know a pair of eyes were looking at them from afar.
