Chapter 383: The Promise

The participants and Knights looked at one another while watching in confusion. They didn’t get a hint since, in their eyes, Vicenzo was a Knight.

"What do you want?" Felissa asked. She didn’t have anything to say, and tiredness washed over her.

"I want to pay for my sins and show myself that I am worthy to stand by your side," Vicenzo explained and knelt on one knee. He respected Felissa as a leader aside from being his mate.

"Please, stand up," Felissa whispered and looked around. She didn’t want to embarrass Vicenzo by submitting to her.

Felissa’s parents taught her that a Luna must always submit to the Alpha, and the Pack would follow. With that knowledge, she wanted to build the Midnight Pack that wouldn’t tarnish Vicenzo’s name as a weak Alpha, especially since his background was not significant in the noble’s eyes.

"Please allow me to participate in the remaining Trials to show you my strength and capabilities," Vicenzo stated sternly. It was his plan, and he was prepared to struggle for Felissa’s sake.

Felissa’s eyes widened in panic. She didn’t care a bit about the participants who would do the Trials, but Vicenzo’s joining them made her concerned.

"No," Felissa muttered.

Vicenzo pursed his lips. He expected that answer, but he was not giving up. He stood up and went closer to Felissa. "Sweety, I know I’m being unfair to you, and all the problems we have encountered for the past weeks ripped our relationship, but I want to do this. For you to see my potential," he stated softly.

"No, the trials are only for the Pack’s personnel," Felissa argued. She didn’t want to take risks when it came to Vicenzo.

"That should be a good reason why I need to go with them. It will be terrible if our future men see me as a helpless leader without any achievements," Vicenzo whispered and chuckled.

"I agree with Vicenzo. I man should always prove himself to his lady and his people," Draco grinned and gave Vicenzo a thumbs up.

Felissa shook her head in disagreement. She was still about to argue when she noticed the participants looking at them. She didn’t announce to the Midnight Pack that she was mated because she wanted to do that when the Pack was settled for good, and Vicenzo would just take his place as the Alpha.

But deep inside, Felissa felt great pride for Vicenzo’s courage to join the Trials.

"Alright," Felissa muttered and composed herself.

"Everyone! Listen up. This is my mate and the future Alpha of the Midnight Pack, Vicenzo Luro. He will be joining the Trials," Felissa announced loudly, surprising everyone.

"Is he a Knight?" Luca asked in confusion upon seeing Vicenzo’s attire.

"Yes, I am a Knight from Sabrecrown’s Palace," Vicenzo replied sternly and released his dominance that he kept hidden to maintain a low profile.

Luca’s mouth hung open in shock. His eyes went toward Draco, who was chuckling at the outcome. From then, they witnessed the strong connection Vicenzo had with the King.

"I told you it won’t be too bad," Draco stated, patting Vicenzo’s shoulder to encourage him.

"Thank you, Your Majesty," Vicenzo said politely. He gazed at Felissa, who looked at him intently. He could see the worry and dread in her eyes, which pained him.

"I promise I’ll return safely and be by your side. I will ensure to make up for all my mistakes," Vicenzo whispered lovingly and hugged Felissa tightly. He put his nose in her neck and took a big sniff to stick her scent into his brain.

Felissa wanted to cry and beg for him to stay. To forgive him, and they would start over, but she knew if she did that, she wouldn’t grow as a person. That would also show her lack of trust in her mate’s strength.

"Take care. I will await your return," Felissa stated, cupping Vicenzo’s cheeks while staring into his Emerald eyes.

Everyone coughed in awkwardness when they witnessed the intimacy. They immediately turned their backs to give them privacy while smiling in amusement. It was still rare for the wolves to find their true mates since the new Era was still fresh, but they were growing and improving every day.

Felissa and Vicenzo were in their own world and didn’t care about the audience.

"I will, Sweety," Vicenzo smiled and pulled back, but Felissa held him.

"I miss you," Felissa whispered and pouted. She tried not to cry, but tears formed in her eyes. She didn’t want to admit it, but for the days she was away from Vicenzo, she yearned for his touch, smell, warmth and the sound of his voice when he called her name.

"I miss you too, and I want to say... you look beautiful today," Vicenzo grinned while watching Felissa’s face lit up, and a pink blush appeared on her cheeks.

Felissa bit her lips before tiptoeing and capturing Vicenzo’s lips into a passionate kiss. She wrapped her arms around his neck and clung.

Vicenzo was surprised, but he gave in. He hugged her waist tightly and pulled her close. His body shivered in delight upon tasting his mate’s lips again.

It took a few seconds before they pulled away.

"I will take my leave. They are waiting," Vicenzo stated and kissed Felissa’s forehead. "Please, look after yourself while I’m gone," he added.

"I will," Felissa replied and stepped back. Her wolf howled in pain of separating from their mate, but she needed to do it.

Vicenzo packed his stuff and joined the participants, who were still turning their backs. He looked at Draco and Vinicio, and that was enough for them to understand what he meant. He wanted them to take care of Felissa while he was away.

"Let’s go," Vicenzo walked toward the entrance and waited for the participants. He nodded at them, acknowledging their existence before entering the Labyrinth’s door.

The participants looked at one another and cheered before following Vicenzo inside. After all of them were gone, the Knights closed the door.

Felissa’s knees weakened as she fell to the ground. She felt her energy drained from her body while trying to show Vicenzo she was strong enough to handle the danger he would encounter.

"Moon Goddess, please keep my mate safe," Felissa whispered as she clasped her hands together and prayed to their creator.
