Chapter 382: The Mate

"AH! We’re all going to die!" a participant screamed in terror upon arriving at the place.

No sane person would think that was just a typical forest. Everyone felt the creepy, eerie lingering around and how an abandoned building stood tall.

"You’re such a wimp," Guff chuckled cheerfully. He felt the bizarre aura in the place, but he was rather excited to explore.

"N-no! I have a family..." the participant whispered and started calculating the pros and cons of continuing the Trial.

Felissa looked at him with pity. She had expected several participants to withdraw for their safety and wasn’t mad about it.

"For anyone that feared the next Trial. You may withdraw from participating," Felissa explained with a smile and watched them become hesitant.

"Hah! That’s better, Luna! Less competition for me," Guff shouted and swung his axe confidently.

"Don’t get ahead of yourself. The Beta position is mine," Luca gritted his teeth and looked at Felissa with determination.

"I believe you should all relax and think about it before making a haste decision," Elio stated in a hurry. He didn’t want anyone to withdraw since for him, they should work hard to reach their dreams.

"N-no! I don’t want to die! I quit! Luna, I quit!" the participant shouted, kneeling on the ground to show his sincerity.

"Okay," Felissa agreed with a smile. She gestured toward Vinicio and signalled him.

Vinicio understood and grabbed a pouch from the box. He handed it to the man.

"That is the token for completing the first Trial," Felissa explained.

The participant was confused, but his eyes widened in delight when he opened the pouch. Several gold and silver coins glistened under the sun’s rays, enough to entice the man.

"Thank you! Luna!" the participant exclaimed before he went back to the cart.

"How about the others?" Felissa stated and looked at the remaining 19 participants. Several of them stepped forward and knelt.

"Very well, you will get your reward," Felissa stated, and Vinicio kept giving them the pouches.

Overall, five participants withdraw from the next Trial.

"Okay, then perhaps, we shall start before the night visits us," Felissa stated, walking toward the entrance.

The remaining fifteen participants followed Felissa while the other five settled in the cart and were carried back in Midnight Pack.

"The rules are simple. You enter here and get out at the other door in the Lightcrest Pack. You have 24 hours, and you’re free to do whatever you want. We have prepared snacks to bring inside. Good luck," Felissa explained and gestured toward the table that contained several bags with necessities.

The participants started to get ready and gathered their stuff.

"Umm, Luna. I don’t have any weapons in me," a man walked toward Felissa and awkwardly scratched his head. His voice was so small that you couldn’t barely hear a sound.

Felissa furrowed her eyebrows and glanced at the other participants who had their weapons with them.

"Natan, are you serious?" a knight from Midnight Pack stepped forward while shaking his head in disappointment.

"I forgot," Natan replied with a shrug.

"I apologize for the inconvenience. Natan was a previous knight of Midnight Pack," the knight explained and handed his own sword.

"Are you sure?" Natan stated and looked at his friend.

"I don’t want you to die," the knight replied before patting Natan and bowing toward Felissa. He went back to his post as if nothing had happened.

"Thank you," Natan muttered before leaving, not giving Felissa a chance to talk.

’An odd fellow,’ Felissa thought, waiting for them to get ready. She didn’t want to rush them, unlike the first Trial.

After almost 20 minutes, the participants stood by the gate, waiting for it to open.

Five knights were by the gigantic double door, and after, Felissa gestured for them. They pushed to door open, but they could only manage to create a gap that only one person could get through.

An eerie aura was felt in the air the moment the door opened. A thick mist came out and smelled terrible, especially to a wolf’s sensitive nose. Everyone was silent, and they could hear noises inside the Labyrinth.

"Luna, the door won’t bulge anymore," the knight informed, breaking the intense silence of the crowd.

"Alright," Felissa sighed and forced a smile. "Strong gentlemen, you may go in. The 24-hour time limit starts now," she announced.

The participants looked at one another. They were waiting for anyone to go first and see how it went.

"I have something to say!" Vicenzo’s voice took everyone’s attention.

"Knight Icen," Felissa muttered, and her expression darkened. She didn’t have a clue about Vicenzo’s intention, but she could feel it was not good.

Vicenzo took a deep breath and stepped forward. He stopped a meter from Felissa and looked straight into her eyes.

"I apologize in advance if I lied to you, but I can’t keep it for long," Vicenzo explained, grasping the wet towel in his hand.

"What do you mean?" Felissa asked nervously. She glanced at Draco and saw him smirking.

Vicenzo lowered his head and began scrubbing his hair. His action confused everyone since he was delaying their Trial.

The towel didn’t remove all of Vicenzo’s dye, but it was enough to show his grey, silvery hair strands.

"You..." Felissa whispered. She was unsurprised since she had the suspicion on the day Vicenzo’s dye smeared on her finger, but she was somewhat disappointed.

"I don’t mean to lie and hide my identity, but I can’t leave you alone," Vicenzo explained slowly. He looked at Felissa’s expression and was heartbroken, but he knew the costs of his betrayal and was willing to pay for it.

"Did Her Majesty know?" Rosina whispered, referring to Rosina.

Vicenzo was about to answer when Draco stepped between them.

"I know about this. Sir Vicenzo wanted to accompany you, but we know you won’t allow it. Hence, things escalated, and here we are," Draco stated softly, trying not to complicate things and settle the matter faster.
