Chapter 380: The Unfairness
Chapter 380: The Unfairness
Felissa didn’t know what had gotten her, but she was comfortable enough to let herself be vulnerable; even her wolf agreed.
"Mhmm," Felissa hummed in delight as she snuggled closer to the soft pillow beside her. She didn’t want to wake up but heard a faint yelling from outside.
Felissa immediately opened her eyes, realizing she had slept instead of working.
"Oh, my goddess!" Felissa exclaimed in a whisper. Her eyes roamed around and found that she was in her room. She glanced to the side, where she felt the heat coming from, and saw Vicenzo/Icen asleep on the chair beside her.
Felissa’s mouth hung open in shock. She didn’t expect her Knight to be caring for her. She crawled to the bed and approached Vicenzo, looking at his face.
’The more I stare at him, the more Icen looks... familiar,’ Felissa thought. Then she saw the faded freckles from Vicenzo’s face.
’It’s fake,’ Felicia’s voice rang into Felissa’s head. She knew about it since she had done the same before.
Felissa didn’t reply since she couldn’t understand why her Knight would do that. Then, her eyes glanced at Vicenzo’s hair strand, which was still wet. She saw a droplet formed at the ends, but it wasn’t clear, instead in a dark shade.
’Huh? Is this dirt?’ Felissa thought and unconsciously reached Vicenzo’s hair. She was able to touch the tip when he woke up and reflexively grabbed her hand and yanked sideways.
"Kya!" Felissa screamed in surprise. She was embarrassed to be caught doing something suspicious. "I-I didn’t do anything!" she exclaimed.
Vicenzo blinked a couple of times and saw Felissa’s reddened face. "Feli— I mean, Luna, what are you doing?" he asked, immediately letting go of her arm.
Felissa pouted and massaged her skin since Vicenzo’s grip was tight. "Nothing, Knight Icen. I’m just worried you might get sick from the rain," she reasoned.
"Ah... I see, don’t worry about me, Luna. You should rest. I will clean myself, and I apologize for hurting you," Vicenzo stated and stood up swiftly. He bowed his head and waited for Felissa’s response.
"Ah, don’t worry. You may go," Felissa stated awkwardly before stepping to the side. She watched as Vicenzo left the door before sitting in her bed.
Felissa looked down at her hand. She squinted her eyes while staring at the blank ink smudged in her finger from Vicenzo’s hair.
"What are you hiding from me?" Felissa whispered and took a deep breath. She had trusted her Knight but saw him in a new light.
On the other hand, Vicenzo rushed into his room and looked at himself in the mirror. He forgot about the dye being washed up by the rain. He was consumed by taking care of Felissa without thinking about himself.
"That was close," Vicenzo whispered and sighed in relief. His hair still had dye on them, but the roots showed a bit of silver. Although, it wasn’t noticeable.
Vicenzo took a towel and dried his hair, removing some of the dye. He reapplied another coat to make sure no silver strands would be seen. After he was done, he removed his clothes since it was already dirty and needed to change into something presentable.
Vicenzo’s room was coated with the scent of fresh dye, and with his focus to make things done as fast as he could. He noticed Felissa’s scent a bit too late.
"Knight Icen, I have been knocking a couple of times. Are you in.... there?" Felissa opened the door and saw Vicenzo’s half-naked body.
Vicenzo’s muscles automatically flexed and showed his incredible tone. They looked at one another in silence before Felissa slowly closed the door.
’Oh, my goddess!’ Felissa thought before covering her reddened, blushing face. ’This is wrong. I should not be attracted to another man besides my mate!’ she added, shaking her head.
On the other hand, Vicenzo smirked and looked at his toned muscles. "All my hard work is worth it," he whispered and got dressed. He liked how Felissa reacted to his presence, but at the same time, he felt it was not right. After all, he was known as Knight Icen and not her mate.
"What if Felissa fell in love with me as Icen and decided to leave me as Vicenzo?" Vicenzo whispered. He became concerned over that thought and decided on a plan to make Felissa dislike him a little bit.
Vicenzo hurriedly fixed himself and left his room, but Felissa was nowhere to be seen. He looked around to follow her scent when he received a mind link.
’Vicenzo, come to the King’s Station,’ Vinicio mind linked before cutting off their connection.
Vicenzo frowned, but he followed. He went to where Draco was located, but what surprised him was the number of participants that needed medical help.
The participants had broken bones, blooded clothes, and several were unconscious. It was chaotic, and their loved ones screamed for justice, but nothing could be done.
After all, it was their greed that led them to their agony.
Vicenzo went toward the mini-stage where Draco sat. "Your Majesty," he greeted and bowed.
"Hmm," Draco yawned and stared blankly at Vicenzo. He pointed to the left side where Felissa stood.
Without a word, Vicenzo went there. Beside Felissa was Vinicio, who had a serious expression.
"Out of 99 participants. Only 20 are left," Felissa muttered as she tallied the number. She didn’t think it would drop that low since Vanda managed that plan.
"Luna," Vicenzo introduced his presence and stood beside Felissa.
Felissa ignored him since the memories of Vicenzo naked were fresh in her mind.
"Congratulations! You past the first Trial. You have two days to rest and heal. After that, we will begin the second Trial," Felissa explained nonchalantly. She looked at them individually since among them would be under her command.
"Luna," a hand was raised among the crowd.
Felissa nodded as she signalled for the man to speak.
"Luna, I don’t want to sound rude, but isn’t the Trials too extreme?" Elio, a commoner, stated in concern to the other participants who almost died from the river.
Then Luca stepped forward and dropped the Kraken’s tentacles to prove Elio’s point. "There are monsters we are unaware of," he said sternly.
The group went silent since they agreed the Trial was too hard and it was only the first one.
Felissa pursed her lips. She knew Vanda would spice up the Trial, but she didn’t know what exactly happened and couldn’t find the correct words to say.
"Ah, sorry about that," Vanda emerged from the back. She gave the participants a wave and ignored their confused looks.
"This is Lady Vanda," Felissa introduced and didn’t include where she came from since she actually didn’t know where she originated.
"From Sabrecrown! Nice to meet you!" Vanda exclaimed and curtsied. She crossed her arms over her chest and glanced at the men shyly.
The participants looked at one another, and their aura changed after hearing where Vanda came from. That meant she was related to the royal family in any way.
"Please don’t blame Luna Felissa. I’m the one responsible for all those.... things?" Vanda whispered with a pout.
"Even that giant octopus?" Luca pointed toward the tentacles.
"Oh, the Kraken! Yes! Aren’t they amazing!?" Vanda exclaimed with twinkles in her eyes. She expected them to be enthusiast like her, but in the end, she received fear and disgusts in their eyes.
The smile on Vanda’s face vanished.
"Lady, I don’t know where you get them, but look at the result!" Elio raised his voice and pointed to the defeated participants.
"They are losers. What do you mean by that?" Vanda asked nonchalantly.
"Luna, someone could have died!" Elio pushed further. He wanted a transparent and fair battle between his fellow men but was disappointed at the unfairness from the start.
"You’re weird. They’re your enemies, and you should be proud that you won," Vanda crossed her arms and frowned at Elio.
"But—" Elio wanted Vanda to understand the danger she inflicted but was stopped when Felissa raised her palm.
"End the conversation. Out of 99 wolves that want to get one spot from the Pack position, only 20 of you survived, and you should be proud of it," Felissa stated sternly and looked at Elio.
"And as for you, young man. Suppose you don’t like the rules we have set. You are free to leave," Felissa gestured her hand to the side to let Elio choose. "This goes to everyone else," she added.
The participant glanced at one another, but no one moved. They fought hard to survive, and they wouldn’t waste their hardship over the thoughts of others.
"Everyone... are you... all agree to this?" Elio asked in disbelief.
"Little boy, the world is already unfair from the start. It would help if you learned how to cope and adjust since the world doesn’t revolve around you," Guff, a tall warrior, spoke in his deep voice. He would be delighted if Elio left, as it would lessen his competitors.
