Chapter 367: The Compassion in Need

Felissa stared at Vicenzo while sipping her tea. They were at their room’s table to talk.

"Is there something wrong?" Vicenzo asked. He was mind-linked by Felissa to meet her, but when he arrived, all Felissa did was stare at him.

"No," Felissa replied and put down her cup. She felt sick from consuming a lot of tea that day.

"Do you want to talk?" Vicenzo asked softly. He didn’t want to be awkward with his mate, but he started to feel that way.

"Do I need a reason to see you?" Felissa raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms.

"No, of course not! I’m just asking," Vicenzo replied and chuckled before shifting his eyes somewhere.

The room became quiet, and voices from outside were heard.

"My parents will arrive tomorrow," Felissa started and took a cookie.

"Your parents? What do they want?" Vicenzo’s voice became harsh upon remembering what they did to Felissa. That enough made his blood boil, thinking they would harass his mate again.

Felissa pursed her lips. Rosina had told her to inform Vicenzo about the leadership in the Midnight Pack, but after what had happened. She felt that Vicenzo didn’t need to get involved in her affairs.

"Nothing to do with you," Felissa replied and sighed. She felt different; before, she had every urge to be mated with Vicenzo and be her Alpha, but she didn’t have that same feeling anymore.

"Okay... Have you decided... yet?" Vicenzo asked with discretion.

"Decide about what?" Felissa asked in confusion. She didn’t know what Vicenzo was pertaining about.

"My proposal. Have you thought about it?" Vicenzo replied with a furrowed eyebrow. He was nervous and fidgeted with his thumb.

Felissa blinked a couple of times as she had forgotten about it. "Give me more time to process everything. I mean, what’s there to hurry about," she stated with a forced smile.

"Ah, yes, you’re right," Vicenzo replied. He was baffled since Felissa had wanted to marry him as soon as possible before, but now, he could see the hesitation in her eyes and actions.

"Hmm," Felissa hummed, and again, they were back in the awkward silence.

The next day, Felissa stood behind Rosina while waiting for her parents to arrive in the throne room.

"You can sit next to me," Rosina whispered while leaning toward Felissa. She was currently sitting on her throne to show her rank.

"I’m fine standing," Felissa whispered, glancing at the mini chair beside her. She wanted to avoid equally sitting in Rosina’s direction and respect where her rank belonged.

"I understand. Then, where is your mate?" Rosina asked upon observing Vicenzo’s presence was nowhere to be seen.

"He asked me to marry him..." Felissa whispered, which brought great shock to Rosina.

"What!? Are you serious?" Rosina exclaimed and turned to her friend. She was delighted at the news since she knew Felissa wanted to get married, but as soon as she looked at her friend, she witnessed a deadpan expression.

"Yes, but I haven’t accepted it... yet," Felissa replied with a shrug as if it meant no big deal.

"I see," Rosina nodded and went back to her seat. She finally understood why Vicenzo was not there to fill the Alpha position. "Are you going to rule the pack alone?" she asked.

"... Maybe, for now," Felissa whispered with a deep sigh. She was confused, and her mind was in chaos to make a haste decision. She knew Vicenzo would still end up as the Alpha, and she was not against it, but she now shared her emotions with Felicia. Whenever she would think about Vicenzo, the vision of him stabbing her repeated in her memory.

Rosina raised an eyebrow and noticed that there was a deeper reason why Felissa was hesitant, but she wouldn’t ask about it.

After a while, the door opened, and Felissa’s parents arrived in the throne room with sour faces.

"Here they come," Rosina whispered to Felissa to get her ready.

"Yes," Felissa replied, gulping as she prepared for another argument with her parents.

"Announcing Alpha and Luna Nucci from the Midnight pack!" the knight declared with his booming voice.

"Hmm," Rosina hummed and leaned in her arms as she gazed at them.

"Your Majesty," Renata and Aroldo greeted in unison as they bowed before Rosina.

"Welcome!" Rosina exclaimed and opened her arms wide. She had a smirk on her face before flicking her finger.

A group of servants appeared on the side, carrying a table with papers and a royal stamp on top.

"Let’s make haste, shall we?" Rosina stated and pointed at the table without standing up.

Renata and Aroldo looked at one another in silence before scanning the papers. It was an authorized agreement stating they would abdicate their position as Alpha and Luna of the Midnight pack.

"Felissa," Aroldo muttered upon seeing her daughter. His eyes showed compassion, but he was met with a cold gaze.

"Your Majesty, please allow us to talk to my daughter," Renata stated loudly. Her voice sounded tense since it hurt her pride to ask Rosina.

Rosina sighed and glanced at Felissa. "That decision lies on her," she replied, gesturing for Felissa to come forward.

Felissa pursed her lips as she didn’t want to talk to them. Her heart ached at the betrayal she experienced, which overpowered her love for them. She had expected her parents to plead that she would let them rule the pack until everything was settled, and she might consider it since she wanted to focus on herself for a while.

"Daughter, you are still unprepared and inexperienced ruling the pack at that age. I know we pressured you into taking the position before, but we realized our mistake," Renata explained while holding her chest to show that she was sincere.

"And I apologize if I faked my illness, daughter. I meant no harm, but I want the best for you," Aroldo stated and stepped forward in hopes of getting closer to Felissa.

Felissa furrowed her eyebrows. She was stunned at how they delivered their words to her, and she didn’t even feel any love or compassion from them.
