Chapter 314: The Unexpected Threat
"You must understand his position, Lady Felissa. Your mate acknowledges you but doesn’t convey that you are his mate. Why? Because he wants to protect you," Vicenzo answered. He sighed deeply and lowered his gaze for a few seconds.
"Protect me? That sounds selfish instead!" Felissa argued. She wanted to hear a similar answer from Silvio, but the negativity from Vicenzo hurt her feelings.
Vicenzo bit his lips. He wanted to say some more but decided to drop it.
"Don’t do that, Sir Vicenzo. You must speak what’s on your mind. That’s an order," Rosina stated softly with a wide grin. She leaned forward and placed her hand on her chin.
"I want to hear more, Sir Vicenzo," Felissa said sternly before sitting back in her chair.
"Imagine that you’re in his place, Lady Felissa. There are two choices, his job or his mate. If he chooses you and makes you his wife, there’s a high chance you will get involved with his position, which might endanger your life since you become his weakness. Still, if he chooses his job, you will be excluded from his world, and your life will be secure," Vicenzo explained while clenching his fist to control his emotions from pouring out.
Felissa was speechless. That made her realize how difficult it was to choose.
"Even if the man decides to betray his group and goes to you. There’s no guarantee that he will be left alone. He will be hunted, and you’re their target to get him to the edge. No man wants to see their mate suffer because of them," Vicenzo added and bowed at a 90 degrees angle.
Felissa stared blankly at Vicenzo’s face. She was pushed to find a husband, her mate, all her life. She even went beyond to fight back her parents to give her more time to locate her mate, only to reject him in the end.
"I apologize if my words are heavy, but I stand on rejecting your mate, Lady Felissa," Vicenzo’s voice softened when he saw the hurt on Felissa’s face. His wolf was howling inside from the pain they felt. It was hard for him to say those words out loud, but for him, it was the best way to keep Felissa safe.
"No need to apologize. Thank you for your suggestion," Felissa replied and forced a smile. She didn’t want to let Vicenzo know it was a blow to her gut.
"That was entertaining," Rosina started clapping, destroying the room’s devastating mood. "We should rejoice since you got two sides of the coin as your answer, Felissa," she added.
"Yeah," Felissa replied sadly.
"Aww, why is everyone so sad? There’s always a rainbow after the rain!" Rosina exclaimed, and her words confused everyone.
"What I mean is that if Lady Felissa rejects her mate. There’s also a possibility that both sides will get a second chance mate! So let’s all be positive!" Rosina exclaimed and gestured for everyone to smile since their faces were despairing.
"What do you think is the good outcome if I don’t reject my mate? Because I don’t want to leave him if there’s a way to end this without pain and heartbreak for us," Felissa asked in desperation. She didn’t want to let go of that tiny hope Silvio had planted in her.
"Hmm," Rosina acted like he was in deep thought before glancing at Vicenzo. "Then he should work for me instead," she replied cheerfully.
"Work for you?" Felissa massaged her temples since the twist of scenarios was too much for her to take.
"Yes, he works on the enemy side to bring Draco and me down as new rulers. It won’t hurt if he decides to change his workplace. He will operate under my orders while spying on the enemy to get information from them. Of course, he will still need to act as their ally until everything is over," Rosina explained with a shrug. She had stated those words as a hint to Vicenzo and made him decide what to do.
"That’s not a bad idea, Your Majesty," Silvio commented and agreed with Rosina.
"I know. It saves both sides, and we can get a rainbow of happily ever after in the end!" Rosina clasped her hand together and went beside Felissa. She wanted to give Felissa a bright future, but she did it for her own gain. After all, Vicenzo was the key to unlocking the plans of her enemies.
"Yes! But how can we convince him? I don’t even know his face," Felissa slumped down and facepalmed.
"No need, Felissa. It’s up to him to decide," Rosina replied, patting Felissa’s shoulder. She lowered herself, hugged Felissa by the neck, and stared into Vicenzo’s eyes.
’If I can conquer and destroy an entire pack. Don’t you think I can’t eliminate this little girl?’
A voice forcefully echoed in Vicenzo’s head. He felt suffocated from the intrusion and felt his brain throbbing. He looked at Rosina with shaky eyes while she smiled at him.
Rosina used her powers to break down the impenetrable barrier on Vicenzo’s head to open the mind-link between them to utter her statement without anyone hearing it.
’Are you threatening me?’ Vicenzo sent a mind-link. He didn’t expect Rosina to use Felissa, her friend, to get what she wanted.
’I’m not that kind of person, Sir Vicenzo, but you must know that Felissa’s life is in my hands,’ Rosina sent before closing the mind link between them.
Vicenzo’s vision darkened. He thought he should be wary of Caj harming Felissa, but he realized the real danger was within reach and the most unexpected person, Rosina.
"I shall return to my chamber. I feel tired all of a sudden," Rosina stated tiredly. She turned around and walked away with her servants following her behind.
Felissa was left in the room to ponder her decision and what she could do to help her mate break free from the enemy. When she looked up, she saw Vicenzo staring at her with concern, and his cold aura melted away.
