Chapter 312: The Cover Up
Chapter 312: The Cover Up
It has been two days since the attack happened. Everything came back to normal and Rosina acted as if nothing had happened.
But Felissa was feeling otherwise.
Felissa prisoned herself in her room with Snow. She couldn’t sleep well at night, thinking they would be attacked again and endanger Snow’s life. Most of all, she couldn’t stop thinking of the man with grey-colored hair.
"Ah! Why is he bugging my mind like this!" Felissa yelled and covered her face with a pillow. She was trying her best to forget him, but her wolf liked the idea of remembering his green eyes.
"This can’t go on! I need to get some air!" Felissa exclaimed and put a robe on her body. She wore a simple dress since there was no one to impress in the 13th pack and no other nobles around to judge her appearance.
When Felissa opened the door, Vincenzo was waiting outside in his knight attire. He was leaning against the wall opposite Felissa’s room.
"Lady Felissa, you’re finally awake," Vincenzo greeted in his usual cold tone.
Felissa’s eyes twitched since she hadn’t slept the entire night. She offered a small smile before walking into the hallway. Vicenzo followed her from behind in silence.
After the attack happened. Vicenzo appeared in Felissa’s room drenched in sweat, especially his hair. It looked like he had taken a bath.
Felissa didn’t ask any questions that time since she was mentally and physically tired, but she noticed black droplets from Vicenzo’s hair, which confused her since the water was transparent. She didn’t pay too much attention as her mind thought of it as dirt.
The servants bowed their heads when they saw Felissa walking down the stairs, and they continued their job.
Vicenzo had noticed the changes in Felissa’s actions and was concerned about her well-being. Although, it might blow his cover if he started asking questions, and he didn’t want that to happen.
When they arrived outside. Felissa walked toward the place where she was held captive by the enemies. Vicenzo hardened when they came.
"Vicenzo, where were you when I needed you the most?" Felissa asked without looking into Vicenzo’s face. She couldn’t forget how desperately she tried to mind-link Vicenzo and hoped for him to appear and save her, but he was nowhere to be found.
Vicenzo clenched his fist. He took a deep breath and spoke in a low, soft tone. "I apologize for being an incompetent knight," he said.
Felissa chuckled sarcastically and faced Vicenzo. Her eyes looked sad and full of disappointment. "That’s not what I want to hear," she said and walked closer to him.
Vicenzo’s face hardened as he tried to compose himself. He had expected that question after the attack, but no one had asked him, even Rosina, until now.
Felissa looked straight at Vicenzo with big, wide eyes, waiting for him to respond, but when Vicenzo took a while to answer. Her eyes drooped down.
"I see," Felissa stated with a small smile before turning her back and walking a few steps. "I know you don’t like me. It’s my fault for pushing myself into you. I’m sorry," she stated softly.
"That’s not—"Vicenzo tried to reason out, but he was cut off.
"It must be hard to serve the person you despise," Felissa stated, lowering her head. She wanted to cry and whined about it, but she realized that she couldn’t trust Vicenzo with her safety.
"No, please don’t think that way," Vicenzo panicked. His voice changed into a softer tone while thinking that Felissa would dismiss him from his job.
Vicenzo didn’t hate or dislike Felissa. He wanted to keep her safe and to do that. He needed to avoid her since his two-sided job was dangerous enough, and she might get involved with him. He planned to tell Felissa the truth about them being mates and would accept any consequences of his action after he completed his tasks.
"Sir Vicenzo. I’m thankful for the services you did for me, but I don’t want to force you anymore. You can leave anytime," Felissa stated and faced Vicenzo with a huge smile of reassurance that it would be okay.
Vicenzo felt his heart shattered to pieces. Knowing Caj knew she was his mate, he didn’t want to leave Felissa’s side.
"Lady Felissa. I would like to remain by your side," Vicenzo stated, kneeling on the ground to show his sincerity. He had a cold sweat that Felissa might reject him.
Felissa shook her head and was about to reply when Rosina arrived.
"What’s happening here?" Rosina asked while walking toward them with a vast robe that covered her body.
"Your Majesty," Vicenzo stood and bowed to Rosina while Felissa stared at her friend.
It was the first time Felissa had seen Rosina after the attack, and she couldn’t look at Rosina like before. In her eyes, her friend was powerful and could be deemed as a monster in the realm.
Rosina looked at Felissa and noticed her discomfort. She expected it to happen since Felissa was clueless about her true power.
"I will answer your question, Felissa. I asked Sir Vicenzo to assist Cinzia into her new quarters since I sensed an attack on this pack. It was bad timing when you woke up in the middle of the night and decided to stroll outside alone," Rosina stated thoughtfully, and her eyes were not leaving Felissa.
Felissa looked down. She couldn’t handle Rosina’s intense stare.
"I believe it’s better to let Sir Vicenzo stay as your knight until the attacks are over. After that, I can dismiss him. "I’m sorry, Felissa," Rosina added and comforted her friend.
"Okay," Felissa replied. Her shoulders slumped together since her decision was dismissed, and she couldn’t do anything about it.
Rosina hugged Felissa tightly before walking toward Vicenzo. Her smile vanished, and she put on a serious face. She reached her hand into the side of Vicenzo’s cheeks and wiped the dirt-like stain on his cheeks.
"You got something there," Rosina stated before patting Vicenzo’s shoulder. "You should keep an eye on Lady Felissa," she whispered, tightening her grip before walking away.
Vicenzo felt chills running down his spine. The dirt Rosina wiped with her thumb was the hair dye splattered on that area. Also, Rosina covered up his whereabouts. He was never appointed to assist Cinzia to her new room that night; it was the opposite.
Vicenzo was searching for Cinzia and saw she was nowhere to be seen and went back to his group to inform the status, and that was when he saw Felissa.
"Lady Felissa, we should go back inside. You need to eat your breakfast," Vicenzo stated softly and stepped to the side to give Felissa more space to walk on.
Felissa didn’t reply and walked back to the Castle.
Vicenzo sighed and closed his eyes for a few seconds to regain his senses. For the first time, he felt genuine fear. That kind of fear made your stomach churn uncomfortably. He felt that Rosina knew the truth but was hiding it, and he wanted to know why.
’I should be more careful this time,’ Vicenzo thought before following Felissa from behind.
