Chapter 302: The Lies

On the following days, Felissa stayed in the Palace and planned the trip on each pack to visit with Vicenzo and guard her.

Vicenzo was given a day of vacation to rest, but instead of laying in his bed and enjoying his free time. He went to a pack.

"You’ve finally arrived!" Caj stated after opening the door of the room. He grinned widely in amusement, but his eyes showed distaste.

Vicenzo was sitting on the sofa glared at Caj. He disliked him but was trying to work it out.

"The Palace is stricter than I expected and there’s a lot of mana lingering in the air to detect trespassers," Vicenzo stated firmly as he stood up.

"Hmm, I heard that b^tch Queen assigned you as Lady Felissa’s knight. She’s the Queen’s closest friend and we can use her to —" Caj wasn’t able to continue his words when Vicenzo grabbed his collar and pulled him up since he was taller than him.

"Don’t you dare touch Lady Felissa, Caj," Vicenzo growled as he spoke those words. He didn’t like the idea that Caj casually say remarks as if another wolf’s life had no meaning.

"Woah! Stop being a rabid dog!" Caj raised his arms in surrender and laughed. He wasn’t threatened by Vicenzo’s dominance, knowing he wouldn’t do him harm.

"I might be forced into doing sh^tty things, but I won’t tolerate if you harm Lady Felissa. Do not touch her," Vicenzo stated sternly for Caj to know that he was serious.

"Aww, it’s nice seeing you so protective of her. Does the two of you become close after spending time with each other... or she’s your mate?" Caj stated teasingly and laughed loudly when he saw a slight glimmer in Vicenzo’s eyes.

"HAHAHA! I knew it! Poor Lady is mated to a rabid half-breed dog like you!" Caj screamed in amusement while laughing his @ss off.

Vicenzo remained silent, but he was fisting his hands to control his emotion or else, he would have punched Caj a minute ago.

"No offence, but it’s better to kill yourself and pray to the Moon Goddess that Lady Felissa will be given a noble mate that will fit her status! Haha!" Caj added while drying his teary eyes from too much laughing.

Vicenzo remained silent and looked at him emotionlessly.

"Well, continue doing your job if you want to keep the important people in your life safe," Caj stopped laughing and his face went back to normal. He swatter Vicenzo’s hand away from him and rolled his eyes before leaving the room.

When Vicenzo was alone. He took a deep breath to calm himself before going out of the room through the window and jumping down on the ground. He was currently in the Mystic Pack secretly and walked in the direction of his mother’s house.

"Mother, I’m home," Vicenzo greeted cheerfully. His cold aura vanished upon facing a lovely frail woman that was currently cooking a meal.

"Ah! Vicenzo! You’ve arrived!" Gemma, Vicenzo’s mother exclaimed in delight after finally seeing her son after being gone for a while.

"Yes, I bring some meat for you," Vicenzo stated and put down a lump of pork meat he bought from the market.

"Aww, you don’t have to, Vicenzo. These are expensive," Gemma stated in surprise. She was worried that Vicenzo was spending too much of his money.

"It’s alright, mother. You must eat meat for a while," Vicenzo stated and kissed his mother on the cheeks before settling down on the wooden chair.

Their house was located on the edge of the Mystic pack that was surrounded by the forest and quite farther from the mini-city of the pack. Even though it was a bit isolated from the rest of the pack members, Gemma was satisfied. After all, it was peaceful.

"How’s your work as a travelling merchant?" Gemma asked her son. She thought Vicenzo was a merchant that sold vegetables that they grew to each pack.

"It’s going well," Vicenzo replied and place a pouch of money on the table as his income, but the truth is, it was his salary as a Palace knight.

"That’s great! Although, it’s harder to grow vegetables right now," Gemma sighed sadly before placing a bowl of porridge in front of Vicenzo.

"It’s alright. I found a job as a gardener in Sabrecrown pack so I might not be able to come home frequently," Vicenzo lied as his way to hide his real job since he knew his mother would be disappointed in him and he didn’t want that.

But most of all, Vicenzo wanted to keep his mother safe. After all, she was the Mystic pack Alpha’s mistress.

"That’s good news, Vicenzo. You can explore the main pack and perhaps find your mate there," Gemma stated with glee. She was delighted that Vicenzo was able to get away from the Mystic pack since having to deal with his half-siblings was difficult enough.

Vicenzo froze from eating the porridge. He couldn’t tell his mother that he already found his mate, but couldn’t acknowledge the mate bond due to his circumstances as Mystic pack’s spy to destroy the Sabrecrown’s new Monarchs.

"I will try, mother," Vicenzo replied with a tight smile before continuing to dine.

Gemma smiled and ate with her son. Although, she could feel Vicenzo was hiding something from her but didn’t question it. She was grateful enough to have a good son and waited for the day he would tell her.

"When are you leaving?" Gemma asked softly. She was lonely and wanted to spend time with Vicenzo for a short while.

"This evening. I need to be early for my job," Vicenzo replied and held his mother’s hand, squeezing it softly. "Don’t worry, mother. I will make sure to work hard and keep you safe, away from this horrible pack," he added with pure hatred.

"Don’t worry about me, Vicenzo. I’ll be fine. Just focus on your future," Gemma stated and caressed Vicenzo’s cheek lovingly. She slowly accepted her faith that she wouldn’t last long, but she was fighting to live to see the day that Vicenzo would get married.
