Chapter 297: The Predators

Felissa hummed in delight while carrying the two books in hand. Vicenzo had paid for them and was currently walking behind Felissa to supervise her.

"Ah!" Sir Vicenzo, let’s buy some bread!" Felissa exclaimed and pointed at the bakery that excreted cinnamon scent into the air and attracted dozens of customers nearby.

Before Vicenzo could reply, Felissa had already entered the bakery, and the place was packed with customers.

"Wah! The place is so big!" Felissa stated in excitement and proceeded to fall in line to order.

Vicenzo didn’t have a choice but to follow Felissa. He was about to stand behind her, but a group of men went next to her.

"Don’t cut the line," the man stated, glaring at Vicenzo.

Vicenzo didn’t say a word and leaned against the wall while waiting for Felissa to order. After all, he was the one paying for it.

Felissa excitedly looked at the fresh bread on display, unaware of her surroundings. She didn’t notice the men were taking her private space, and their bodies were sticking into her.

"Oh, I’m sorry," Felissa stated when she felt someone bump into her back. She turned around to see who it was and saw the group of guys towering before her. She flinched and tried to keep it cool by smiling at them as if she didn’t mind their presence, but she was scared.

Felissa became stiff and tried to set a distance between the men, acting as if nothing had happened, but then, she felt something rubbed on her back. She froze upon knowing what it was, but she didn’t know what to do and decided not to move in hopes they would go away and leave her alone.

Vicenzo was looking at her with an expressionless face, but he was fisting his hand. He thought if he should kill those men or wait for Felissa to command him.

"Little miss, would you like to come with us? We know a great place to eat those breasts— I mean, bread," a man whispered in Felissa’s ears with intention, and his men laughed.

Felissa could feel her body trembling from the danger she was facing. She slowly looked back with tearful eyes and looked for Vicenzo. She didn’t need words to show her feelings when she saw him.

Without a word, Vicenzo strode toward the group of men and put his arms on the man’s chest, pushing him back.

"You should distance yourself from the Lady," Vicenzo stated firmly, boosting his body to appear massive.

The group of men stared at Vicenzo for interrupting their time. They looked like regular wolves living in the pack.

"Hah! Who are you to interfere with? Can’t you see we are having fun?" the man, who looked like the leader, spoke proudly. He swatted Vicenzo’s arm away, but it wouldn’t bulge.

"I suggest you stop what you are doing before it’s too late," Vicenzo threatened and put a lot of strength in his arm.

"And what are you going to do about it, huh?" the man looked at Vicenzo from head to know and took notice of his fancy sword that only the knight could carry.

"Then, you can only pick from two choices—"Vicenzo was about to explain, but he was cut off when the group of men scrabbled away without an explanation.

Vicenzo tried to stop them when he felt a hand grab his arm. He turned around and saw Felissa shaking her head.

"Let them be," Felissa stated with a gentle smile. Her eyes were puffy from trying to hold back her tears from escaping.

"Okay, Lady Felissa," Vicenzo replied and calmed down, but he made sure to memorize the faces of those men.

"Yeah, let’s buy some bread instead. I’m hungry," Felissa stated and glanced around where most customers were looking at them.

"Okay," Vicenzo agreed, and this time, he stood behind Felissa to keep her safe. He didn’t care if he caused attention from the public.

When they arrived at the counter, Felissa chose some bread, and the baker gave her extra as compensation.

"I apologize for their behavior, Lady. They usually cause problems in the street, especially if they see a young she-wolf," the baker explained with a sigh of disappointment.

"Does the knights roaming around haven’t seen them acting like that to the she-wolves?" Felissa asked in curiosity since those men should have been captured for everyone’s safety.

"Ah no, Lady, since there’s no strong evidence against them," the baker replied with a forced smile and called the next customer.

Felissa nodded in reply before going out of the store. Her excellent mood vanished, and she could no longer smile genuinely.

Vicenzo noticed the change, but he didn’t ask anything. He did his job as a knight and protected her.

When they arrived at the carriage, Felissa sat on the sofa silently. Her eyes were looking straight ahead into space.

Vicenzo closed the door and rode his horse. Rage was burning in his soul that Felissa was dealing with all different sh^ts, and he wondered how she dealt with them on daily bases.

Upon arriving at the Palace, Felissa went toward Vicenzo and handed him a bag of bread.

"I’ll be retreating back into my room. You can go work your own stuff," Felissa stated softly and gave the bag.

Vicenzo didn’t want to accept it initially, but he didn’t want to disappoint Felissa and make her feel bad. He grabbed the bag and wanted to thank Felissa, but it was harder for him to do so.

Felissa smiled one more time before turning her back and walking toward the building while Vicenzo stayed behind with the carriage.

’Are you okay?’

’Do you want to talk about it?’

’Do you want me to take revenge and put those men in place?’

Those questions were circulating in Vicenzo’s mind, but he couldn’t say them out loud.

"It will be fine," Vicenzo stated before leaving the place, but he didn’t go to his quarters.

The sun came down, and the moon shined through the sky. The city candles lit up the area, and the nightlife started.

Behind the noisy crowd, the darkness lingered on the side. A man was standing atop a tall building, but no one noticed him. After all, he blended well in the night.

The man’s eyes scanned the area for the target he had in mind. It took a while before he noticed the group of men walking on the road and holding a bottle of wine. They were drunk and targeted she-wolves roaming on the street.

"Found you," the man stated with a smirk behind his mask. He brushed his silver-colored hair backwards before jumping into the roofs while waiting for the group to walk into the darkness.

It took several minutes before the group started following a she-wolf who was trying to run away from them. In doing so, she decided to enter the dark alley as her way to hide from them.

"Are we playing hide-and-seek? I always love that game," the man, which was the leader, spoke teasingly. His group laughed behind him while drinking alcoholic drinks.

The woman hid behind the wall when the leader’s head popped up.

"Found you," the leader stated and was about to grab the she-wolf, but she was able to get away.

The she-wolf continued running in hopes of survival, but to her bad luck, she ended up on a dead path. She tearfully knelt on the ground when the group of men arrived in front of her.

"Please, don’t hurt me," the she-wolf begged while rubbing both her palms together.

"Ah, don’t worry. You are safe with us," one man stated with a smile. Although they were trying to act friendly, their real intention was seen through their eyes.

"No! Please don’t!" the she-wolf hollered when the men surrounded her. She closed her eyes and accepted her faith but heard outcries, followed by a loud stud.

The she-wolf opened her eyes and saw a man dressed in all-black attire. She could barely see him from the darkness, and the only thing she could distinguish was his grey hair.

"Thank you," she she-wolf whispered.

"Go," the man stated coldly, and the she-wolf scrammed away for safety.

The man looked at the result of what he did. Although, the group weren’t dead yet.

"Now, let’s finish what we started," the man stated, taking out two daggers from his back and piercing through their flesh.

The victim’s screams were consumed by the noises of the busy night that nobody heard their desperate cries for survival.

When the deed was done, the unknown man vanished without a trace of his existence, but only the trail of his doings.

The group of men’s bodies were found by commoners and reported to the authority. Their arms were butchered and were left to bleed till death.

A card with a written note made in blood was placed on the leader’s chest and contained one single word.

’Predators.’
