Chapter 195: The Hidden Room
Chapter 195: The Hidden Room
Draco had searched Rosina’s room, but nothing was interesting other than it looked like a dungeon on its own. He could imagine himself living in that kind of place, and a series of memories opened up from his past life in the Palace.
Shaking his head, Draco headed out and started at the living room, to the pictures attached to the wall, which didn’t have any single portrait of Rosina.
"Haha! Seems like we’re similar at this type of thing," Draco chuckled while shaking his head. He didn’t have any portraits on the walls in the Palace, but he didn’t mind it since several royal pups’ paintings weren’t displayed either. One of them was Ambra since the Queen hated her, and the King blamed her for the second Prince’s death.
Draco proceeded to the next floor, explored each room of the pack members, and skipped several of them since he wasn’t interested in other wolves sh^t that weren’t related to Rosina.
It took a while before Draco reached the top floor, which contained the leader’s chambers.
"Ah, what is that smell," Draco muttered and pinched his nose. He went to the source of the smell and the dolls attached to the broken wall. He was shocked and had goosebumps on his skin.
"What kind of sick wolf have that kind of hobby," Draco shook his head and looked around. That was when he saw a huge old portrait of a young woman in a fancy dress.
An old, white satin cloth that covered half of the portrait was hanging on top.
Due to Draco’s curiosity. He pulled the cloth to get a better view. The woman in the portrait was beautiful and had a lively aura. He looked closer since he felt he had seen her somewhere and realized it was Natale’s portrait when she was young.
"She looked radiant here, but now, she looked different, and her aura was lifeless," Draco commented and couldn’t help but stare back at the dolls.
Draco’s body shivered as he went out of the room. He was surprised that Natale had that kind of hobby. He went to the next room, which was Cleto’s office and bedroom.
Since it was the Alpha’s room, Draco used his time to look at the documents to see what was indicated inside since he could use them in the future.
A lot of documents about the Palecrest pack’s financial troubles were documented and stored safely. Rosina’s dowry for her wedding was also spent, and a small portion was set aside for Rico’s dowry for his future wife.
"I heard that the Palecrest pack were poor, but I didn’t expect them to be this poor," Draco commented when he noticed that the pack had been living through the money he gave for Rosina’s hand.
That got Draco curious since Palecrest has a good business with the other packs in the meat industry, but it wasn’t successful.
"I would be surprised if Cleto sucks at managing," Draco chuckled with amusement. He kept rummaging on the shelves for any documents he could find when something got his attention.
Draco saw an old book on the side, attached to the edge of the shelve. From the front appearance, it looked like an ordinary book, but when you look at the top, it was made of wood instead of a pile of papers stacked together.
"Ah, nothing new," Draco shrugged and pulled down the book. He knew about the secret levers, especially since the Palace was full of them. It was his hobby when he was young to search for them in the Palace to waste time. He didn’t realize it would be helpful someday.
Draco heard a clicking sound and a rumble. He pushed the shelve to the side, and behind it was an old metal door with a small window at the bottom.
"Is this the treasury?" Draco raised an eyebrow and looked at the door. He placed his hand, and the coldness hit his skin, but most of all, the dust attached.
"I doubt," Draco replied to his own question. He wiped the dust into his pants and pushed the door open. He saw the attachment of locks on the side, which made him curious about what was inside that room.
Draco pushed the door open harder since the rust made it hard for him to open it smoothly. When he fully opened the door, the room was coated in darkness.
"Ugh," Draco groaned and rubbed his nose when the dust flew everywhere, making him sneeze.
"Oh, goddess!" Draco exclaimed and went back to the office to search for any available candle to use and illuminate the place. Even though he could adjust his eyes in the dark, he wanted to see clearly.
Draco searched for a few seconds before finding one. He lit it up and went back inside the room he found.
"Goddess! A hidden room," Draco exclaimed when he saw a straw bed, but what caught his attention was the dried crumbs on the floor that turned to dust when he stepped on it.
"The stuff in this room is too old, or it’s been here for a long time," Draco whispered as he walked along. A sound of clanging echoed, and when he looked down, he saw a set of huge chains chattered on the floor and a handcuff connected to the chains.
Draco crouched down with a furrowed eyebrow. He stared at the chains and observed the tiny details.
"The size looks like it was used by a child," Draco uttered with a hum. He touched the metal bars and noticed that it was made of silver. He looked around and used the candle to see the walls.
Draco’s eyes traced the scratches on the walls. There were also dried blood splattered marks everywhere.
"Whoever lived here had a horrible experience," Draco muttered and noticed a window, but it was blocked by wood and metal together.
Draco placed the candle on the floor and extended his claws. He used his force to destroy the wood and let the light entered inside the room.
"Ah!" Draco grunted as he continued clawing through the wood, and since it was old, it didn’t take long before the barrier collapsed. He kicked the remaining metal attached, and now, the window was functional.
Draco took a deep breath as the air entered and felt in his skin. "This seems nice," he stated and turned around. This time, he can see the room’s view clearly.
Numeral numbers were on the other side of the wall, and they almost occupied the lower portion.
"What’s the meaning of this?" Draco asked and traced his fingers against the carvings.
"Those are the number of days she stayed in this room," a voice answered behind Draco.
Draco immediately turned around and saw a woman in a dark robe. "Who are you?" he growled and showed his claws as a defence.
"Don’t you remember me?" the voice chuckled and removed the hood to show her face.
"Vanda?" Draco muttered in realization. "What are you doing here?"
"Am I not allowed in here?" Vanda asked back with a teasing smile. She walked toward the straw bed and crouched down, touching the old material.
"I’m not saying that, but you left days ago," Draco stated and was confused about how Vanda came back without notice, and he didn’t even feel her presence inside the room he was in.
"Hmm, be used to that," Vanda chuckled and looked at Draco in the eye. "But I wonder how you find this room? This place has been locked up for many years, hidden from the world."
"Wait, do you know this place?" Draco asked when he realized the meaning behind Vanda’s words.
Vanda smiled softly and gazed at the chains. "Yes," she replied.
"Who?... don’t tell me," Draco couldn’t say the name that crossed his mind. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath while waiting for Vanda’s reply.
"You already know the answer, Draco," Vanda giggled and stepped forward a few inches before Draco.
"I want to know what happened in this room," Draco sighed deeply. When he opened his eyes, he saw how close Vanda was. He was about to take a step back, but Vanda stopped him.
"Are you sure about that?" Vanda asked. She wanted Draco’s consent to do what she planned to happen.
"Yes, I’m here in this pack house to understand my mate’s life. So I could relate to her more. It’s hard for me to adjust and do things when she keeps rejecting me without telling me the reason," Draco replied with a deep, tired sigh.
"Then, let me show you," Vanda whispered and pulled Draco’s collar, capturing his lips into a deep kiss.
Draco was about to push her away, but his consciousness faded. His surroundings became blurry until he felt his eyelids close. The last thing he saw was Vanda’s wicked smile.
"Now, sleep, my dear Draco," Vanda stated while caressing Draco’s cheeks.
