Chapter 190: The Indirect Rejection
Rosina watched Bertrando’s body lying on the floor of their room. She and Draco planned to sleep in the guest rooms on the same floor, but when she entered her room of choice, she saw Bertrando in there.
"What the hell is he doing here?" Rosina stated in confusion. She had seen Bertrando outside the pack house before she went inside, but he was currently in her room. She walked toward him and kicked his side softly.
"He’s unconscious," Rosina whispered with a sigh. She noticed the small blood coming from the side of his head. She reached out and touched the wound; her pale fingers were tainted red.
Rosina furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. She had many questions about what had happened when the door of her room opened, and Draco peeked inside.
"Rosina?" Draco called and saw Bertrando’s body with Rosina’s bloodied fingers. "What happened?" he asked with curious glances.
"I saw him laying cold here," Rosina replied and stood up. She wiped the blood from her clothes and sat on the bed. She was tired and didn’t want to think anymore as she tried to rest.
Draco pursed his lips. Somehow, he felt tightness in his chest, thinking that something had happened between Bertrando and Rosina, but he shrugged off the thought.
"Then I’ll take him away," Draco stated and grabbed Bertrando’s feet, dragging him outside. He placed Bertrando in the hallway and made his body lean on the wall. He wasn’t sure how Bertrando entered that room, but he planned to ask him after he woke up.
Draco glanced back at Rosina’s room and saw her already sleeping without changing her clothes.
"She must be exhausted," Draco commented with a smile before putting out the candle and closing the door. He didn’t want to wake her up and be disturbed.
Draco was about to enter his chosen room but stopped in his tracks. He looked back at Bertrando with a deep sigh. He couldn’t let him leave in the hallway.
"Alright, we’ll sleep together," Draco muttered and dragged him into his room. He placed Bertrando on the sofa and put a cloth on his head to add pressure to the wound to stop the bleeding.
"What happened to you?" Draco stated and looked intently into Bertrando’s face and noticed the grass on his clothes. His eyebrows furrowed as he took the grass and smelled it.
"It’s from the forest," Draco whispered and sat on the bed. The smell of the forest differed from the grass near the pack house. He had so many questions in his mind that were left unanswered.
"Rosina seems surprised as well," Draco stated upon seeing Rosina with Bertrando earlier. He sighed before getting an extra blanket on the side and placing them on Bertrando’s body to keep him warm as he settled on the bed.
Draco closed his eyes as he tried to fall asleep, but no matter how many positions he made to make him comfortable. He couldn’t fall asleep. Somehow, he felt that someone was looking at him in the dark.
Draco sat up and looked at Bertrando’s form. He groaned and tried to take a sleep, but the thought of someone with him was creeping him out. He sat up and took Bertrando’s body, laying him on the bed instead.
"There you go," Draco groaned and covered Bertrando’s body with the blanket as he settled on the sofa. He lit up as many candles around to make the room brighter.
Morning came in.
Rosina opened her eyelids as the light shined through the windows. She sat up and robbed her eyes to wake her soul. She felt something on her palm when she was about to get up.
"Huh?" Rosina looked down and saw a single red rose. She looked at the flower with curious glances. She took it and smelled the petal, but it smelled rotten instead of a lovely scent.
"Vanda," Rosina whispered the name of the woman who saved her. The red petals turned black as they withered in her hands.
Rosina couldn’t help but chuckle. She realized that Vanda had been there when she was asleep. Although, what made her curious was Vanda’s motive for her visit.
That was when Rosina remembered Bertrando’s appearance in her room from last night.
"Does Vanda have something to do with him?" Rosina questioned herself and looked at the floor where Bertrando’s body was supposed to be, but she saw he wasn’t there anymore.
Rosina stood up from the bed and followed the dried blood marks on the floor. Her heartbeat fastened when she thought that Bertrando was in Draco’s room. She hurriedly opened the door and saw Draco sleeping on the chair while Bertrando was in bed.
"Ah, that’s good," Rosina sighed in relief and went silently beside Bertrando, placing her hand on his head. She looked at Draco for a second to ensure he was fast asleep.
Rosina’s left eye glowed as she read Bertrando’s memories of last night. Although the previous images were blurry since Bertrando lost consciousness, she was sure it was Vanda.
’She helped me again,’ Rosina thought with a smile. She used her powers to block that memory from surfacing and to keep her from having problems, especially since Vanda was involved.
"Rosina?" Draco stated when he woke up from the heat of the sun. He saw Rosina touching Bertrando’s head with glowing eyes, but when he rubbed his eyes, the glow disappeared, which made him think that he was only seeing things.
"Draco, you’re awake," Rosina stated and acted as if she was checking Bertrando’s wound on his head.
"Ah, yes. It’s hot," Draco answered and watched Rosina’s hand on Bertrando’s forehead. "Is he alright?" he asked in concern.
"He is," Rosina smiled softly and took a step back. She sighed in relief, thinking that Vanda was safe and that what had happened in the forest was hidden.
"I see. We should ask what happened to him," Draco stated, but he saw Rosina’s body tense for a few seconds before she relaxed and looked at him with a smile.
"Draco, I have to go somewhere, but I’ll be back in three days," Rosina stated, diverting the topic from Bertrando.
"Where are you going?" Draco asked with a furrowed eyebrow. He didn’t have a good night’s sleep, and waking up with Rosina stating she would leave again made Draco irritated.
"You don’t need to know," Rosina replied and was about to leave when Draco held her hand to stop her. "Rosina! Don’t just leave like that again!" he exclaimed and raised his voice.
Rosina swatted his hand away and rolled her eyes. "Here we go again," she sighed and stared at Draco with a deadpan expression.
"Rosina, I am your mate. I need to know where you are going to ensure you’re safe!" Draco exclaimed and found it hard to think why Rosina hated the idea of telling him the truth.
"No! You’re not!" Rosina shouted instantly without thinking. She was overwhelmed with everything. She wanted Draco to shut up like he did before.
Draco opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. He didn’t know what to say about Rosina’s reply. He thought that everything was going smoothly and that he only needed to be King for Rosina to marry him again, legally as a mate.
"We are still in a contractual marriage, Draco. Don’t forget that," Rosina growled. She was relieved that he had finally said those words to Draco after keeping them for a while.
"Rosina, you know we are mates. That’s rare as f^ck in this realm. We made love, which is basically half to complete the mate bond!" Draco became frustrated as he combed his hair backwards.
Rosina pursed her lips. She didn’t want to hear another word about mates or that she was Draco’s mate. She felt suffocated, and the feeling of escaping from that place became stronger.
"No, we are still under that contract, Draco. I don’t give a sh^t about mates, and I don’t want to be bonded by your rules on how I live my life just because you think we’re mates!" Rosina growled out loudly. "YOU DON’T OWN ME!"
Rosina shouted so loud that Bertrando twitched awake.
"Rosina..." Draco whispered, and the pain in his voice was evident. He felt his chest ripped apart, and his wolf was howling due to the emotional pain they felt.
Rosina sighed heavily before leaving the room in haste. She didn’t want to talk to Draco anymore after that confrontation. She knew he was hurt by her words, but she only shrugged it off and thought about herself.
Draco’s knees weakened as he fell to the floor. His breath became ragged since he felt that he was rejected indirectly. It broke him.
"It’s fine. I just need to become a King," Draco whispered to himself, trying to comfort his heart. He was not losing hope and always thought Rosina would accept him entirely someday as her mate.
