Chapter 189: The Strange Noises
The moon crept into the sky as it gave light to the darkness.
Rosina held the torch and looked at the pile of dead bodies covered in white cloths. She was alone in the forest as she specifically instructed Draco and the rest of the pack members not to disturb her while giving the dead their final peace.
"Moon Goddess, I wonder what you think of me," Rosina whispered with a chuckle. She couldn’t help but wonder if Selene, the Moon Goddess, hated her for the things she had done.
Rosina smiled before shaking her head. She shrugged the thought since she was still alive and wouldn’t meet with the Moon Goddess sooner. She placed the torch on the ground and looked above.
Thick leaves covered the moonlight to shine below the ground.
Rosina raised her arms, and her left eye glowed. "Burn," she stated firmly. The leaves that covered the area got burnt in black flames.
The moonlight went through and shined at the dead bodies. The magic Rosina used caused a drift in the atmosphere, which made the torch fire get put out.
Rosina inhaled deeply before looking at the bright full moon. "Moon Goddess, may you forgive me for my sins," she stated before taking out an orb that Vanda gave to her.
Rosina crushed the orb with her bare hands and let her blood mix with the dark liquid. She extended her hand and watched the mixed fluid move on its own. It went through the dead bodies and entered their system.
"Ugh! Argh!" multiple sounds echoed in the forest as the dead bodies started moving on their own. The white cloth got soaked in black as the dead wolves rose from the dead.
"Ah, my new batch of an army," Rosina whispered and welcomed the undead army before her that stood up one by one, tearing the cloth away.
Rosina rejoiced to watch their lifeless eyes bore at her. She was their master, and she liked it.
"My beloved beings. You shall sleep for a while and wait for our grand revival," Rosina stated firmly as the undead cheered creepily for her.
Rosina smirked before putting blood into her pendant and opening up a portal huge enough to occupy the undead wolves. They got swallowed to the ground and were never seen again, as if they never existed in the first place.
Only the dirtied white cloth was left behind.
"All done. Vanda, you must be delighted," Rosina whispered with a smirk before grabbing the cloth and burning it with black flames, leaving no evidence.
After everything was done, Rosina walked back to the forest entrance, where Draco anxiously awaited her.
"Rosina!" Draco exclaimed and smiled widely upon seeing Rosina’s form. His eyes instantly looked at her hands smeared with blood. He grabbed her and looked for a wound, but nothing was on it.
Rosina pulled her hand and wiped the dried blood from her clothes. "My job is done," she stated before walking past Draco.
"What happened there? I heard strange noises coming from the forest a few seconds ago. I’m worried that some creature lingers in the darkness that might cause you harm," Draco stated with concern.
"There’s nothing to worry about, Draco," Rosina glanced back at him and offered a small smile. "We should rest," she said and gestured for Draco to come.
Draco was urged to check the forest, but he couldn’t say no to Rosina. He ran toward her, and both of them went to the pack house where they would stay for the night.
Bertrando looked at them while he sipped his hot chocolate. He had also heard about the strange noises coming from the forest, and he wasn’t the only one. Several wolves who were close by also heard it, but they shrugged it off since Rosina had returned safely.
"Don’t overthink it, Bertrando," Cirino stated and patted Bertrando’s shoulder. "It must be some creatures lurking in the dark."
"Should we worry about that?" Bertrando stated sarcastically, indicating that they should check the source of the strange noises to ensure everyone was safe.
"Well, if you want to, go ahead," Cirino raised both of his hands in surrender before stepping back. "But, I won’t come. I’m too sleepy for this," he yawned and returned to his tent.
Bertrando shrugged and looked at the dark forest. The moonlight was bright, but since the leaves were thick, it prevented the light from illuminating the area.
"Ah, whatever," Bertrando turned around to leave, but his curiosity was killing him. He groaned and walked to the forest to feed his mind.
"I’ll just finish this," Bertrando whispered to himself before venturing into the dark. His eyes adjusted to see his surrounding.
Unconsciously, Bertrando’s feet led him to the place where the dead bodies had been piled together earlier. He saw the moonlight shining on a specific area, which caught his attention.
"Huh, this was not here before," Bertrando muttered and looked above to see the burnt leaves. His eyes widened when he noticed the leaves’ circular pattern that didn’t naturally exist.
Bertrando remembered that the forest didn’t have a spot for the light to come through, and that made him more curious and cautious at the same time.
"No werewolves can do that, except if they have powers or they’re a different creature," Bertrando whispered and stepped back to glimpse the area where the light shined through.
"This place..." Bertrando knelt to look closely and saw the patterns on the soil and grass that had been squeezed together due to the weight over time.
Bertrando looked around and sniffed the area, but he smelled nothing. He was one of the members that took the dead wolves together in the forest, and he was confident that it was the place where they put them, but there were no bodies.
"Where are they? What’s happening!?" Bertrando exclaimed as he kept on looking around. He was confused and frightened at the same time. When he turned around, he saw a figure in the dark, and the next thing he knew, his body fell to the ground.
