Chapter 129: The Red Grass
Chapter 129: The Red Grass
Growls and snarling resonated in the forest area. Two groups faced one another with their sharp teeth baring to show dominance and threat.
A man stood in front. His sword was nicely tucked on the side. He looked at the enormous beige wolf standing before him. Between them is the mid-line of the 13th pack’s territory.
"Bring out my wife, Rogue," Draco stated firmly. His head was held high and showed his authority. After all, he needed to show that he wasn’t afraid of a mere rogue since he was a Prince of the Sabrecrown pack.
Pepe snickered. He let Rosina go earlier, and it depended on her if she would go to Draco or not. After all, the outcome would be the same, but he wanted to play mind games.
And the 13th pack’s members didn’t know that Rosina was married; for them, it was a surprise that someone from the Palace was asking for his wife.
Pepe shifted into his human form, unafraid to show his naked form in front of his enemy.
"Is that the only reason why you are here?" Pepe asked with a smirk. "I know this is only your facade, but the truth is, the Palace sent you to destroy this pack and take it!"
Draco chuckled. It wasn’t new that the Palace didn’t want to stop trying to take over the 13th pack, but Draco wanted to get Rosina first before considering attacking the 13th pack.
"It’s a secret how the Palace detests this pack, but I need to see my wife. She is the Princess of the Sabrecrown pack," Draco stated firmly, and his troops growled at the back.
"Hah! Before asking for your wife. Isn’t it better if you ask yourself first? After all, she was taken because of your negligence!" Pepe shouted with pure disappointment to Draco.
Pepe’s pack was confused by their conversation.
’My King, what is going on? Why is that royal asking for his wife?’ Bertrando, the 13th pack’s Beta, mind-linked Pepe to find out the answer.
’Rose... is married to that man, a Prince, but they were not mates,’ Pepe replied and opened the link so everyone would understand.
’What!?’ Bertrando was shocked at the revelation, but if only fired his determination to fight.
Draco scoffed and glanced at Silvio beside him, who was looking awful from the guilt.
"No more talking. Hand over my wife!" Draco shouted and drew out his sword, aiming it toward Pepe’s neck. "I don’t want to go to war with you yet, but kidnapping my wife and the Sabrecrown’s Princess is a sign of threat, and we can’t overlook this," Draco growled threateningly.
Both sides were now in their defensive position and were waiting for their leader’s signal to attack.
"Aren’t you the first one to kill my pack member!?" Bertrando stepped forward and yanked away Draco’s sword.
"Killing a lowly Omega as a sign of threat. Sucking his life until he had nothing but bare skin and bones! You nobles are nothing but animals!" Bertrando added and extended his claws.
That action made Draco’s troops draw out their swords to protect him.
Draco blinked multiple times while processing Bertrando’s words. He visualized it and couldn’t help but laugh. After all, he had seen several of them before. He knew it was Rosina’s doing, and he didn’t want to deny their allegations even though it was a life.
"I can’t believe a fine and gentle woman like Rose is married to you! If you care about her, it’s best to leave her alone with her mate!" Cirino, the 13th pack’s Delta, stated with anger. He had always believed one should find their mate and settle a life with them rather than marry a random wolf.
"Mate..." Draco looked at Pepe from head to toe. "Don’t make me laugh. Rosina wants to be on my side rather than living in this wretched pack. Give her back, and we will leave this forsaken place!"
Draco remembered Rosina’s words before. That she didn’t want a mate and never desired to be mated. She wanted to be a free bird that soared peacefully in the sky, but hearing what they stated made Draco doubt.
’If this man is Rosina’s mate. I can’t stop her if she wanted to be with him, but it would complicate things since we needed to exterminate the rogues, and she will be one of them,’ Draco thought. He wasn’t concerned about killing Rosina, but the fact that she would become a strong opponent to them.
"Gentle... haha," Draco started chuckling at how they described Rosina. He concluded that they didn’t know her true form and personality. "I believe she is more than that!"
Pepe growled in annoyance. Even though Rosina didn’t want him, his pride as the King was in the line since he had introduced her as the pack’s Queen.
Draco and Pepe looked at one another intently. Testing out their dominance and observing each other. The intensity in the atmosphere was making the other wolves suffocate from their power.
While the staring contest was ongoing between the two men, Rosina was looking at them at the top of the tree. She was having fun while treating their confrontation as entertainment.
’Tsk tsk, men and their egos,’ Rosina thought while shaking her head with amusement. No one noticed her at the moment, and she planned to continue watching to see the ending.
Deep inside, Rosina wanted to see who would win, Draco or Pepe. Although, she could sense that Pepe was stronger physically since he grew up in the wild and was using his wolf most of the time while Draco was coped up in the palace duties.
’Swords versus claws. Looks like history will repeat itself,’ Rosina shrugged and remembered Ambra’s story about her and the 2nd Prince’s death.
"Seems like you don’t have any plans to hand my wife. Then there’s one way to do it," Draco stated firmly and twirled his sword.
"Ah, of course. This will happen sooner or later anyway," Pepe replied before shifting into his wolf form and howling loudly, signaling his men to attack.
And that time, both sides colored the grass red.
