Chapter 116: The Unmarked Neck of Rosina
Rosina stood still while looking at Pepe. She didn’t expect that Pepe would ask about her pack. This made her think that something had happened before she passed out earlier.
"Why do you want to know?" Rosina asked nonchalantly and sat on Pepe’s side, acting like nothing had happened. The servant immediately went to serve Rosina, but Pepe raised his hand to stop them.
Pepe mind linked all the servants in the dining room to vacant the place since he would talk to Rosina alone.
Rosina felt the immense pressure inside the room that they were now alone. She took a chicken leg from the plater and started eating it while waiting for Pepe to answer her question.
"Because you are my Queen, and I needed to know your background," Pepe stated and crossed his arms over his chest. His eyes never left Rosina’s face, watching her every move.
’Ah, this is the day,’ Rosina thought before placing the chicken back on her plate. She wiped her mouth and faced Pepe with a deadpan expression.
"I came from the Palecrest pack," Rosina stated, answering Pepe’s question.
Pepe didn’t reply, but his expression darkened, and he clenched his fist to control his anger.
"You’re lying," Pepe whispered. He looked at Rosina as if he wanted to pluck her tongue out.
"I’m not lying," Rosina stated firmly. She told him she was from the Palecrest pack since that was her origin before marrying the Sabrecrown pack.
Pepe could see the sincerity in Rosina’s eyes, but he had gathered information about her while she was asleep, especially since he had gotten a clue.
"You’re name isn’t Rose, right?" Pepe’s eyes glared at Rosina as his wolf was howling in betrayal.
’He knows,’ Rosina thought. She expected Pepe to know her identity, but it was too soon.
"Your maiden name is Rosina Greco, a noble," Pepe started to unfold the truth in Rosina’s face, but the following sentence was too painful for him to accept. "And... you’re married to the 3rd Prince of Sabrecrown pack, Draco Violante!"
Rosina could see the rage Pepe emitted, especially when he mentioned Draco’s name in pure hatred.
’There’s no need for me to lie,’ Rosina thought before nodding her head in agreement with Pepe’s statement.
"Yes, I’m a married wolf. That’s why I told you before, I’m not the mate you’re destined with," Rosina stated calmly to avoid adding fuel to the fire.
"You’re a liar!" Pepe slammed his fist on the table so hard that the wood cracked.
"I didn’t lie. Rose is my nickname," Rosina argued. She didn’t like how Pepe said she was a liar when he didn’t ask her questions about her life before being taken to the 13th pack.
"You think I’m unmated without asking me if I had a mate after rejecting you multiple times. I offered to be the substitute Queen to help this pack and myself. I never said that I would take this role permanently!" Rosina was starting to feel enraged even though she tried to relax.
"Because I never saw a mark! You don’t have a mating mark on your neck!" Pepe shouted and stood up, wanting to dominate Rosina, but it wasn’t affecting her.
"What?" Rosina became confused at Pepe’s sudden outburst about a mark. That was when she remembered the mating mark Pepe was talking about.
The mating mark was the first step of the mating process. The male wolf bit his mate in the place between the shoulder and neck. Once the female was marked then, half of the bond was completed.
Once the pair consummated, the bond was complete. Their scents would mix with one another, and they would feel each other’s emotions, creating a personal link to communicate.
Rosina gritted her teeth. She never thought about the mating mark, and nobody gives a sh*t about it back in the Sabrecrown pack. She understood why Draco didn’t insist on giving her one since they were not mates but contracted husband and wife.
"Tell me, Rosina. Your husband, Draco, and you got married for convenience, right? You’re not real mates," Pepe stated softly, and his cold demeanor started to calm down. His facial expression improved in hopes that Rosina and Draco were not real mates.
Rosina was dumbfounded. Her mind was still processing Pepe’s words when he held her hand and grasped them.
"Tell me the truth, Rosina... Please... Tell me," Pepe’s voice broke. He held Rosina’s hand toward his face. He didn’t care if she saw his weakness since all he cared about was to make Rosina his.
"Pepe," Rosina whispered with her eyes looking at Pepe with pity. She didn’t know why Pepe was fixated on thinking that she was his mate.
At that point, Rosina was troubled about what she would do. If she wasn’t married to a Prince, she could abandon Draco and live peacefully in the 13th pack, but she knew the Palace wouldn’t stop until she was found.
After all, she was a Princess of the Sabrecrown pack.
Rosina moved her hand and grasped Pepe’s face, noticing a single tear that escaped Pepe’s eyes. She smiled at him, hoping it would help.
"Pepe, you have a good side in you. Any she-wolves you choose will be lucky to have you. I know because you have taken care of me while I’m here, but I’m already married, and I know they’re searching for me. Your mate is out there waiting for your arrival in her life. Don’t waste it for me. I want to see you happily living a life with your mate and pups in the future, which I can’t give you," Rosina whispered softly while looking straight into Pepe’s eyes while caressing his cheeks.
"Please, understand, Pepe."
Pepe closed his eyes. He knew that he already lose the battle before it started, but that didn’t stop him from finding a way to win the war.
"You are my mate, Rosina. I felt the bond when I first set my eyes on you," Pepe answered and pulled Rosina’s body closer to him.
