Chapter 114: The Theta

Chapter 114: The Theta

Rosina was standing in front of the cells, overlooking the kidnapped she-wolves inside. Her mind was in shambles, knowing the full name of the servant behind her.

’Violante... That’s the King’s last name! Is she a Princess?’ Rosina thought and glanced at Ambra, who remained behind her back with her head lowered to the ground.

Rosina sighed deeply. She had never heard of Ambra’s name or a missing Princess in the Palace, and Draco didn’t mention anything as well. That confused her, and she wanted to ask further questions, but it would endanger her hidden identity as Draco’s wife.

"I’ll go inside. You can stay here if you want," Rosina stated before stepping inside the room full of cells. The she-wolves inside cower in fear from the light emitted from the torch they were holding.

"I’ll follow you, my Queen," Ambra stated and extended her hand, indicating that she would hold the torch from Rosina’s hand.

Rosina looked at her before giving her the torch. She didn’t need the light since she could see well against the dark. Her footsteps echoed inside the hollow room, and the whimpers of the awake she-wolves started to get louder.

One by one, Rosina looked at the she-wolves’ faces. They all looked horrible and thin from the lack of food and sunlight. Pity engulfed Rosina’s chest as she wanted to set them free.

"Ambra, what should I call you in this pack?" Rosina stated and faced Ambra, who flinched from the sudden action.

"J-just Ambra, my Queen," she replied and bowed her head.

"Okay. Tell me, why were several she-wolves in here stuck in the cells? Aren’t they supposed to go out and work under the Castle or find someone they can mate with?" Rosina asked nonchalantly. She thought that the kidnapped wolves were sent outside to use them.

"Yes, my Queen, but several she-wolves wouldn’t submit to the rogue King, which made them a threat. As a result, they are stuck here until their wolf breaks," Ambra explained thoroughly. She looked at the she-wolves that barely moved since they had no energy to do so.

’Donata,’ Rosina thought and began searching the cells until she found a familiar figure lying on the straw mat. She looked at the woman with pity.

Ambra lifted the torch to light the area, which made the she-wolf inside squirm from the glow.

"Donata," Rosina muttered the she-wolf’s name. Her voice was soft but firm. "Look at me, Donata."

Donata flinched at Rosina’s voice calling her name. She tried lifting her head, but she could only twist her head to the side to look at the source.

"Ugh," Donata tried speaking, but her voice couldn’t utter any words. Her eyes showed void and emptiness as if she was accepting death to come.

"Donata, do you want to stay like that forever? Work for me," Rosina stated and gestured for Ambra to open the cell.

Ambra was hesitant since Rosina was alone without guards to defend her in case the she-wolf became aggressive.

"I’ll get the key, my Queen," Ambra muttered and placed the torch against the wall before running outside to inform one of the wolf guards.

This made Rosina alone with Donata.

Rosina lowered herself and looked at Donata’s dull eyes. "Stand up. Don’t fight with pride and submit yourself to me," she whispered, and her left eye glowed for a second before it vanished.

Donata’s fingers started moving to force herself to lift her body. She was shaking, and her legs couldn’t handle her weight as she fell back to the ground.

"My Queen!" Ambra called out, and behind her were two wolf guards that held the cell keys.

"My Queen," the wolf guards bowed regarding Rosina’s title. "Do you want to open this cell?"

"Yes, and take that she-wolf out of the cell," Rosina instructed before taking a step back to create space for the wolf guards to work.

The wolf guards looked at one another but followed Rosina’s request since she was their Queen. They opened the cell, carefully lifted Donata’s body in a bridal style, and faced Rosina.

"Follow me," Rosina stated and gestured for them to follow her outside, but the problem was, she didn’t know where the medic was located in the Castle.

Rosina looked at Ambra behind her. She was about to ask the location when she saw Ambra’s hand gesturing to her turning to the right.

Rosina followed, and a sign ’Salutary’ along the hallway shone brightly against the wall. She knocked twice before pushing the door open.

Inside the Salutary was a room full of beds draped in white. Wolves were lying on the bed and getting treatment from the Theta.

The Theta was the herbal wolf. They heal and take care of the ill and injured. No magic or powers, just herbs and particular medicines from resources. They help with childbirth and could work in fields of war or Salutary.

"My Queen!" everyone was surprised at Rosina’s appearance in the Salutary. They all stopped their work to bow in respect.

Rosina smiled at them and stepped aside, showing a wolf guard with Donata in his arms.

"Please, heal this she-wolf," Rosina stated, and the free Theta’s immediately attended Donata without any question.

Rosina stayed in the Salutary and watched how the Thetas grind herbs and applied them to Donata’s wounds. They also prepared a porridge for her to eat.

"My Queen, I’m Alessa Buratti, head Theta in this Salutary," an old woman approached Rosina and lowered her head. She stood straight and smiled softly.

"Nice to meet you, Alessa," Rosina replied softly.

"I’ll be attending the she-wolf you brought here. Is there anything you would like to request, my Queen?" Alessa asked and gestured for Rosina to accompany her toward Donata’s bed.

"Inform me if she woke up and healed from her injuries," Rosina muttered before turning around and bid Alessa goodbye. She knew that the Thetas would take care of Donata in fear that she would kill them if they failed their job.
